Darling in the FranXX is quite mixed in its flow and identity, but it has some redeeming moments and fascinating topics that make it at least worth a shot at watching. I will summarize my impressions. It starts out like Mirai Nikki (The Future Dairy) with an obsessive, energetic, and crazy athletic girl and a seemingly weak and incompetent boy. There are sexual innuendos, a little fan service, and it seems like it will be nothing more than that. However, this goes away pretty quickly and the focus becomes the post-apocalyptic world and the children who must pilot mobile suits to help fight off humanity's
...
enemy - the Klaxosaurs (mecha alien monsters from below the surface).
As we follow the main character, his love interest/crazy partner, and their team, we get little hints about the world they live in, how the war started, and what it all means. I won't spoil anything in particular, but in general Darling in the FranXX does a good job of discussing the importance of man and female relationships for growth and maturity, the gift of the mortal body to live and learn and also have offspring, and the reason selfishness and self-preservation will never help us advance as a society or as individuals. I was pleasantly surprised by these themes and I was excited to see how the show would end, but I was sorely disappointed.
The story goes off into left field with something very unrelated to what the plot has been the whole time and then the main characters have a very unsatisfying and trite ending. It's not an understatement to say the last few episodes crashed and burned. Needless to say, Darling in the FranXX had several good moments and cool themes, but wasn't consistent throughout, especially at the end. Is it worth watching? Only if you've already seen all the top anime and are looking for something extra. However, if you don't like frustrating endings then stay away.

What the hell is this anime? lol I'm halfway through and the MC Rentaro still doesn't have a motivation. Events are just happening without any relevance, explanation, or meaning. It jumps from one thing to another without any context as to why it was important or how it connects with prior or subsequent events. And as others have mentioned, there is weird loli crap going on. This anime is junk. Do not waste your time.
*******************************************************
I need to write more apparently, but there's honestly no more to say since this anime doesn't have a good plot or any sense of deeper meaning.

Deca-Dence had a second of "this could be cool" & then it completely flushed everything down the toilet. Let me tell you how! So the premise of Deca-Dence has the familiar adventure story setup where a determined neophyte is taken under the wings of a wise veteran (e.g. Luke & Obi-Wan). The setting is a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is on the brink of ruin, fighting for their lives against paranormal monsters called gadoll. They have certain advanced technology to kill the gadoll such as blood-sucking javelins as well as their last haven - the powerful, moving fortress known as Deca-Dence. So far this seems
...
like a promising premise.
The 1st episode is really solid. The MC Natsume gets shafted with a mundane job when she wants to be out fighting the gadoll. Her boss, the "wise veteran" I mentioned, is a former gadoll fighter who senses something in Natsume & decides to train her, despite knowing the danger of doing it. Under his tutelage, Natsume gets a taste of the real outside world, of Gadoll, and becomes equipped to fight them. But by the end of episode 2, we learn that something else is going on in the world of Deca-Dence. Everything we've seen so far is not what it seems. Natsume's dad dying, the tankers dying in that 1st battle, Natsume's desire to fight for humanity and end the war, and pretty much everything associated with Deca-Dence. It's actually just an illusion, a game.
The humans are not in control, but cyborgs are in control. They own the humans like slaves and use them for entertainment, much in the same way the colosseum was used in Rome. Except the humans have no clue that everything is a lie, even though it's been centuries. Fishy. Then we have the controlling cyborgs who look like they came straight out of a Powder Puff Girls episode. Seriously, the change of style and tone was so jarring I literally had to check if I was watching a different anime. Nothing meaningful is explained as to why the cyborgs use the humans or why the cyborgs even exist in the 1st place. But the worst part is what this change in plot does to our original premise - it makes it a complete farce. It removes the weight it had in the story. Why even start with Natsume and other humans? Just start with Kubaragi and the cyborgs. Or if you do start with Natsume at least make her the main focus of the story. smh. Just another garbage anime.
TL:DR. Deca-Dence has no idea what is doing with its plot. 1st episode is a false impression of what the show is actually about. I would not recommend unless you've literally hit the bottom of the barrel. That's why I even gave this a shot.

Steins Gate is not what you think. You read the description, look at the genres, see comments about it online. You get excited because you think this is going to be a sci-fi thriller with some drama, maybe a little action. You watch the first few episodes and you're intrigued - a time machine, an evil organization, murder! You continue watching, eager for the next twist and... nothing. No twist comes. The plot doesn't move from there, it just goes in a loop.
But why? Isn't Steins Gate a sci-fi suspense anime? Well here's the truth. Steins Gate isn't all that suspenseful. And it's not
...
sci-fi driven. So what is Steins Gate then? At its core Steins Gate is just a comedic slice of life anime. In other words, it is a HS club (group hangout) anime but older & more melodramatic. Having established that, let me be clear. I like Steins Gate. It's an enjoyable watch. But what I don't like is people claiming there's gold when there's just a bunch of glitter.
The sci-fi and suspense aspects of Steins Gate are just frills. They fascinate the audience, but they do not drive or deepen the plot of the story. Two great examples of sci-fi driven plot are Psycho Pass and Parasyte. The sci-fi element in these stories is integral. But in Steins Gate, the sci-fi element is merely a background for the characters. For example, Instead of diving deeper into SERN, what their plans are to take over the world, & what actions they should take to stop them, the plot sticks to time experiments in the lab for each member. And later plot is just time jumps to save them from their earlier experiments. What SG emphasizes is character relationships, not an overarching narrative such as man vs. society, hero vs. villain.
Like I said at the start, Steins Gate is not what you think. Despite it's sci-fi and suspense exterior, it's not complex or mysterious. It doesn't have a grand narrative or thrilling twists. It's simply a funny, melodramatic club-type anime going around on a sci-fi track. It's worth the watch, but not worth special praise. FFO: Charlotte

Horimiya is a really solid anime! It has a cool OP, crisp animation, good protagonists, and just an overall genuine vibe. It's also one of the very few rom-com anime that doesn't tease the "will they, won't they" scenario to death, which I appreciate. However, there is one problem with Horimiya - it doesn't have enough time to fully develop. When I reached the end I felt like I'd only scratched the surface of getting to know these characters and their stories, especially Hori and Miyamura. And that makes me wish that one of two things would've been done...
1. The addition of more episodes. 13
...
episodes is just not enough time to develop a whole cast of characters like Horimiya has. You can only scratch the surface with such limited time. If their goal was to develop the whole cast they should have done at least 24 episodes.
2. Putting the focus solely on Hori & Miyamura. With only 13 episodes most of the screen time should've been dedicated to the titular couple. I didn't mind the other characters, but Hori & Miyamura were the reasons I was watching. I wanted to get to know their characters more and see their relationship develop more too.
To summarize, Horimiya is 100% worth the watch. It's down-to-earth, funny, and just an all-around good anime. My only complaint is that it didn't have more episodes or a more focused approach. Because if it would've had it would've been beyond special.

I've seen this time and time again in anime and I just don't get why writers are so clueless about it. Storytelling is about going on a journey with the characters. You get to know them. You get to know the world they live in. You get to know the hardships they face. You know there will be ups and downs, but in the end you believe these characters will find a way to overcome. You root for them because you see a little bit of yourself in these strugglers. You want to see them succeed.
So when an anime like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners comes along
...
with dope action, a vibrant and quirky world, and decent characters / plot, you get excited to go on the journey. And indeed those first 6 episodes were a good rip and ride! But then episode 7 started and something felt off. The direction changed and I could tell we were headed to a bad place. Once I got to the end I was so frustrated. Everyone (besides Lucy) gets completely destroyed. And for what? What did these characters die for? What was the reason I went on this journey with them? There was none. It was all meaningless. I wasted my time, but even worse it left me feeling empty.
"What about Lucy?" some might say. "She got her dream of going to the moon." Yeah she did, and she had no one to share it with because they all died, including the one person she loved. Pretty depressing... And look I wasn't expecting some intricate storyline or amazing character development, but how you finish a story is crucial. (Just ask GOT.) You can have characters die, you can have sacrifices for the greater good, but it needs to lead somewhere. It needs to mean something. Or why make the journey at all?
