Another (Anime) add
If you are a fan or horror, this may not be the anime for you. I know this because I am not a fan of horror. I don't care for gore, suspense, ghosts, ax murders, and bizarre deaths. This anime contains all of the above mentioned, yet it remains one of my favorite anime to watch with friends. It begins like a typical horror anime (at least, in my experience), with a set of high school students and a mysterious ghost story. The plot quickly falls into minute-by minute terrors that keep watchers on their toes.

I feel that I'm being confusing here, though. This ...

I wasn't really expecting to enjoy Yuri!!! on Ice as much as I did. It has great pacing for a sports anime and just enough sex appeal to keep things interesting without getting inappropriate. I especially enjoyed the theme music, which was both beautiful to listen to and had engaging art to accompany it. I don't know that it necessarily is a ground-breaking anime--I've heard people say that it's a big deal regarding homoromanticism and other stuff, but I don't think one needs to see it in that light in order to appreciate the relationships and characters in this anime. Mostly I just enjoyed watching ...

Finding this film on the back shelf at my local library, I expected it to be deserving of its anonymity among Studio Ghibli films. I was so wrong. I have since rewatched it several times and each time I am more and more in love with its gentle story line and breathtaking art.

The story is a classic of sorts, being based roughly on the Japanese folktale of the Bamboo Cutter. In this film, the story line is woven along gently, with touching characters and a pensive wonder as miracles unfold and even princes make fools of themselves. The theme of this film requires a ...

Ah, if there were only a way to sum up this anime without over-glorifying it or making it sound lame... This is a fine line that this anime walks between being impossibly stupid and brilliantly profound.

It is very short. This is good because if it were longer, I hardly think I would be able to continue watching it. The writers did an amazing job at proving over and over again that the boyfriend is stupid, yet from the depths of this stupidity come glimmers of unintentional brilliance.

Honestly, I understand why many people watch this anime and find it unappealing; the title alone is ...

Barakamon (Anime) add
When I first started watching an anime about a depressed artist who is constantly pestered by children as he tries to work, I admit I was skeptical. Normally I don't really care for slice of life type anime, and I find the portrayal of children in anime often distasteful.

This anime is different. While it is not the best anime I've ever seen, it is very high on my list simply for its profundity and dedication to realism. In every scene, this anime intentionally draws realistic characters in believable situations and weaves their escapades into a thought-provoking consideration about what we value and why. I ...

One Punch Man (Anime) add
While there are many things I could say about One Punch Man in relation to the themes, characters, production quality, and plot; ultimately, this show's one crowning achievement is its dry, persistent humor. This show answers the question that most shonen brings up but never answers: once you've become the most powerful hero ever, doesn't life get boring?

The art is in a classic style, and the plot rather like what you'd expect of a shonen-style anime. That is to say, there's not much that's remarkable about either. The drawing style is consistent with distinct lines and bold colors, which is pretty typical in an anime ...
