Major Spoilers Included:
So I just don't get the writing at all. The main character's quest is to restore his sister to her human form, but she has none of the drawbacks of actually being a demon as of the end of this season. She doesn't need to consumer human blood, she has maintained her humanity, and she can WALK IN THE SUN. The only reason at this point to continue is so Muzan cannot try to absorb her. Its hilarious. I see several people who know about the manga plot talking about questions introduced this season (the marks, upper level demon identities, dream warrior identities)
...
but there's no payoff. If I watch an entire season of any show I want some setup and payoff. "Read the manga" should not be required to understand the plot points of an anime. The last 2 seasons (Mugen Train and Entertainment District) i was on the edge of my seat. This season I kept waiting to move in my seat whatsoever. The 2 hashiras this season were equally uninteresting. One leans heavily into fanservice and waifu tropes with little to do in the final fight while the other has little personality and defeats an upper rank singlehandedly. Its just so uneven after this season opens with the defeat of an upper rank demon being defined as this huge deal. If this season had been paced at 6 or 7 episodes I think it would have felt like a 6-6.5 at least instead of a 5 overall.

So I think I just watched a 12 episode fan fiction or something called Mayoiga. Seriously guys this show was less unintentionally funny and less interesting then Ousama Game (Kings Game) and that was already bad. The most memorable part of this series for me is the opening song. It is catchy and has a completely different vibe from the show which isn't surprising since this show is one huge mess. The premise is 30 young people take a bus trip to a mysterious village to start their lives over. Ok not the most original idea ever but
...
I can work with it sure. It devolves into omg she's a ghost so let's have a witch hunt into why won't you be my puppet boy main character oh why. Then it just kind of ends....like a character says let's leave and the credits roll....I seriously thought I missed something multiple times while watching this series of it gives you an idea how sloppy this was put together. The biggest sin of them all is a HUGE SPOILER SO LOOK AWAY NOW..............................................no one dies. Not a single character. No satisfying gore and mayhem to make up for the lunacy. It's pure psychological comedy. You got me good Mayoiga.

Yamada's First Time, oh wow, what a show. I started watching this series after I heard that children's mothers were upset and were trying to argue that this show was "smut" teaching their teens to want to go out and sleep with a bunch of people. Within the first minute of the show you are introduced to what this show is all about: teenagers not understanding members of the opposite gender, and a lot of teens misconceptions about sexuality and intimacy. It is truly relatable and hilarious to watch many of these scenarios crash and burn in this series and it reminds me of when
...
I was a teenage boy who was scared to even talk to a girl. The gags keep coming fast and furious in this series as Yamada discusses her overwhelming desire for intercourse with her inner self manifested into a mini Yamada on her shoulder as well as her sister and close friend.
If you like animes with nonstop awkward teens interacting with each other in hilarious scenarios as well as constant jokes and discussions about naughtiness then you will utterly love this series. If you like to play your sexuality a little closer to the belt though, ala in a more discrete and less obvious way then you will probably hate everything this show represents and then some. I laughed out loud on multiple ocassions during this show and the entertainment value is a big determinant as to whether I appreciate shows of this nature or not.
My only complaint is a small spoiler. The end of the show definitely teases future antics that are never shown which is understandable since this is not a hentai but more of a journey of maturation for Yamada. I also wish that we got to see other characters interact with their significant others more since it would have added another perspective and dynamic to the show. Only one other recurring character is shown as having a boyfriend which out of the numerous characters introduced definitely seemed a bit odd to me.

So lets jump right into this. This was another very popular anime that only had 13 episodes, and the show suffers greatly for it. There was a second season announced in Feb of 2018 which could see the light of day by the end of 2019 but thats 3 years after the airing of the first season and I cannot judge whether or not its existence will add to the end of this animes story since it isnt out yet. My review is also excluding the movie and the single ova that were released after the end of the 13th episode since the ova is
...
mostly fan service.
This series lacks solid pacing or character development due to its rushed nature of 12 episodes which is a shame since there are real possibilities with the realization of the main characters lineage at the very end of the season. Also there are entire plots that are hinted at but never fleshed out at all since as flashes to future antagonists and the realization that whole characters motivations rest on plans of characters that we are never introduced to.
Character wise if you love the idea of characters in a classic rpg dungeon crawler setting similar to Sword art Online then you have some things to enjoy here. The show also incorporates the idea of Greek and Roman Gods as guild leaders for the human characters which sounds awesome in theory but isnt really used in a fun way. These god characters usually just stand around and talk/plot their own agendas/look cool and barely resemble the gods they are based upon. The main character is a basic flat shounen character who is oblivious to the physical advances of literally every female character in the show simply because he is a shy, innocent main character boy. He also receives powerups as needed for the plot and features abilities far beyond every other character except his silent and reserved crush who we barely get to see fight throughout the series and are merely told of her exceptional battle prowess. In fact I would argue that the lack of creativity witht he plot and characters is probably this shows greatest shortcoming. This show loves classic anime tropes which by itself is fine if you use them in an interesting way which this shows slow pace and lack of character development really struggles to accomplish.
On the flip side the big redeeming points of this series are when we get to see a few devastating, blood splatter inducing attacks on labyrinth monsters and.....Hestia. Hestia is the goddess figure of the main character and is actually in the show a considerable amount which is great because her design is very cute and I personally found her to be hilarious in most of her dialogue but I could easily see other people finding her annoying. Hestia is one of the best waifus in my book though which probably skewed my score up from a 6 to a 7 to be honest.
So in summary we have here an underdeveloped plot with underdeveloped characters in a fantasy rpg world with greek/roman god characters sprinkled in. we also have solid production values and sound design mixed with some decent action pieces when they get going plus one of the best waifus in all of anime right now which skates this season 1 by as a 7.

-This is the most conflicted I have ever felt about a manga before. Let this be a warning to anyone who tries to binge read it like I did. 278 chapters in one week and man oh man does it start going downhill about halfway through.
-This manga is hilarious. It's as simple as that. It also has some of the best teasing couple shipping and fan service that I have ever read.
The panels are detailed and it will have you on the edge of your seat to see how the characters antics will play out chapter after chapter.
-Now for the conflicting part: after investing so
...
much time into this story and its characters the ending feels incredibly rushed. I would compare it to the Bleach manga or Naruto for anyone who remembers how rushed those endings felt. This story has many characters and you really only find out the fate of a couple of them and are left to wonder about the rest. Also, about halfway through the manga during an extremely long sports arc (like 75 chapters I swear) the characters just repeat themselves and it is painstakingly slow. If I had to read this arc as it was coming out on a weekly basis I think I might have actually dropped it to be honest.
-There is a 12 episode anime that covers the first 82 chapters of the manga basically panel for panel and by the looks of it there are no plans for a second season sadly enough.
-So that being said this manga has a lot of positives and I was honestly engrossed in the characters fates and comedic shenanigans throughout it but its just so hard to overlook how far it started to fall in the second half........but who knows maybe you'll love the ending.

-So did you ever want to have a zombie girlfriend? If you did then you came to the right anime but let me tell you my friend this will not go the way you think it will.
-I love a lot of the backgrounds and color palettes used throughout this show. The locations aren't quite as varied as I'd like but damn the nighttime scenes look pretty. the op/ed are cute tunes that are appropriate for the tone of the show but nothing special.
-this is yet another anime that desperately needed a second season that never received one and most likely wont since its already been
...
6 years since its initial release but if you aren't fully satiated by its short season there are 3 ovas that can supplement the content of the anime.
-lets get to the nitty gritty here: This show is about a kid obsessed with the undead....he wants to screw, kiss, be with an undead girl in general. It is very weird but the show makes it seem funny in a way? The main female character is being sought after by her father.....in a creepy sexual way. Plus to top it off the main characters cousin wants to be with him too. at first you think wtf Japan but ultimately these unusual elements do not take away from the overall enjoyment of the show. the cousin is easy to sympathize with and the father is easy to hate so it mostly works out.
-there is a small amount of blood in the series (but if you are squeamish it isn't nearly as over the top as more mainstream horror titles). The characters are mostly likeable and the plot is cute plus it has zombies and cats. The typical zombie tropes do not even apply in this show since the main female character doesn't act like a zombie from a George Romero zombie movie. You could do a lot worse for a show if you are looking for something cute with a few shades of darker shows that are out there.
-the only thing I would emphasize is that if you want a well rounded plot with a conclusion you won't find that here since most animes of this length do not feature a solid conclusion or any conclusion at all.

"This anime is edgy and that's ok."
-My opinion
So I can tell from its overall score plus the review boards that most people find this show appalling and that's ok....because it's not a masterpiece by any stretch but at least its not a flipping MMO anime am I right?
I'm a huge fan of darker toned anime with some blood and sex appeal and some character death and get tired of the same old tropes of MMO fantasy worlds, teenagers that are too afraid to touch each other because oh no opposite sex, and cutesy bs.
To give you a guys a few highlights of this show
...
without getting too spoiler heavy: character arcs are shallow, the main character wants to save everyone which makes no sense when you think about the framework of the game but hey at least he tries right, the explanation for the king is probably the most disappointing part of the show for me personally simply because it makes less and less sense the more you think about it, and the ending OH MY GOD whhhhyyyyyyyy.
I think any anime watcher who enjoys shows with a little gore, sex, crazy antagonist women, and hard rock op/ed will enjoy the hell out of this despite its many plot and character flaws simply because it is EDGY and that's ok. At least its not afraid to go to that place and go over the top with it. There are just so few good horror and dark newer animes that we have to take what we can get and this is one of those shows so don't let the haters take away your enjoyment for what it is: mindless edgy fun that's so bad its good.

So I was really torn on what score to give this anime. On the one hand it has an appealing opening and ending theme, a few episodes that cover mature themes, attractive female characters with a fair amount of fan service, and a unique premise (a high school with a penchant for gambling).
On the other hand it has underdeveloped characters that only serve to provide exposition, a "gamble of the week" episodic format that results in no conclusion to the story, and really leaves me wanting something a little deeper.
I would call this an "edgy" anime. The characters facial expressions are constantly exaggerated
...
to levels that I haven't seen since I watched Higurashi (or When They Cry in English). It seems so off putting at first but once it happens for the seven or eighth time you really just start to think its amusing. This show also loves to give the main character Yumeko glowing red eyes when anything intense or dramatic starts to happen. It really reminds me of Death Note when Light's eyes would constantly turn red. I mean hell, the student council president's eyes are constantly blue as well so you could say she is the L to her Light. Its stylish but ultimately unnecessary, in fact, at one point since Yumeko's backstory is never explained I thought she was some sort of demon or something but who knows.
Overall I would say I thought this anime was enjoyable. I am a sucker for stylized shows with fan service and interesting music, I would even dare say I found some of the gambling matches entertaining due to the characters reactions. That is why I am giving it a 7 but really if they had fleshed out the characters more in say a 26 or even longer episode version of this show I feel like I would have loved it a lot more. It definitely has wasted potential although I have heard that the manga is better and that a second season of the anime is still possible.

So let me start by saying that I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews about this anime on its page and I really wanted to share my piece as to why I loved it so much. This anime is full of nudity, blood, and gore with religious undertones. So I can get how if you like watching slice of life shows like some Clannad or Hetalia or something why you would be turned off by this. However, I just wanted to say how long its been since I saw a show that reminded me of some of my favorites like Hellsing and End of Evangelion.
...
Like seriously, its been so long since I felt so sad and yet at the same time was on the edge of my seat wondering where the story is going next.
SOUND:the opening is a little long at 1 minute 40 seconds but it is trippy and the techno beats throughout this show fit perfectly.
STORY:This is based on Go Naiagis original Devilman manga and changes a lot of things around so don't expect a close adaptation but for the majority of us who havent read the 1972 manga this wont matter.
CHARACTERS:Every time something bad happens to a character you feel it. The show sets you up for tears and by the end I really felt the connections between Miki, Miko, Akira, and Rio.
The show also has its problems that Im overlooking as well such as at certain parts the story seems sort of rushed and the characterizations are moreso implied at different points then explicitly told to the audience (probably due to its 10 epissode length) but goddamn is it a crazy ride.
thank you Netflix for making this and I hope that they adapt a sequel Devilman story as well.
BOTTOM LINE: if you like boobs and blood and a badass techno soundtrack then watch this, you won't be disappointed. If you like lighter fare then you should probably steer clear and let us masochists have our fun.

OBLIGATORY SPOILER WARNING
-So before I say anything else I just want to point out the hook of this show. Drool. Yes, lots and lots of drool. Let's everybody eat each others drool and have dreams and nose bleeds and experience each others emotions through drool.
-The hook of this show is quite strange which is why I kept watching it since I am typically not a big fan of slice of life animes and for the most part it did not disappoint. The idea of using drool to convey plot points and characters emotions may seem strange but it works well in the framework of the
...
show. If you wanted to you could even say it symbolizes being intimate with another human being, kissing, etc. If you are a person who simply hates drool well then you will probably end up grossed out by the end of the first episode since it is a constant theme.
-I enjoyed the fact that we got to see the two main characters develop into more mature human beings throughout the show and I genuinely cared about the characters. My main problem is that the show isn't long enough. I would have loved to have seen how the characters would have reacted to being intimate for the first time, going on more dates, graduating, etc.
-The music does its part fine but there really aren't any memorable tunes from the show in my opinion.
-For whatever reason this show is classified as an ecchi....which I simply do not understand since while there is a beach bikini episode and drool eating the fan service is by no means any worse than 90% of most other popular animes these days and if you are turned off to the idea of watching it because it is classified as such I would suggest ignoring that label and giving it a chance anyway (it is by no means graphic).
-Overall I feel like it is worth a watch if you are into watching a couple overcome real problems, particularly those experienced by high schoolers and adolescences when they first start dating. I know that I personally could relate to the characters in several of their situations based off of my own life and I feel like that makes a slice of life show far more enjoyable when you can actually relate to at least one of the characters.
