Where to begin.. this was an absolutely outstanding watch. I love the story and not to mention the art is just so pretty as well. It was a little inconvenient that it's not streaming on any main platforms, but I still managed to watch it despite that. I think that it is decent LGBTQIA+ representation and it's one of my favorite films of all time. The movie was short but cute. I don't usually read manga but I might read the Umibe no Étranger manga after seeing how well done the movie was. The characters are some of my favorite characters of all time, because

both Shun and Mio show how you can struggle with your identity as a gay person, because you're taught by society that you're gross and only acceptable when presented in a pornography. Mio shows that society only ever thinks of gay men as “uwu cute little babies” that they need to nurture, while he’s a lot more than that and it’s rather rude to dumb him down to just that. Whilst Shun shows how frowned upon it is to be gay, and seeing so many examples in media and society, can make you start to hate yourself and who you are. This causes him to be homophobic even towards himself and Mio. Shun also knows that gay men are usually seen as predatory, because of being gay, and that’s why he acted the way he did around Mio. One flaw about this film is that it does slightly contribute to the predatory side that gay men are precieved as, since Mio is 17 in the start of the film and Shun is 7 years older, but I think it does a fine job overall. I’d also love to add how much I LOVE the girlfriends in the film. I myself is a lesbian as well, and it was nice seeing a lesbian couple that wasn’t extremely and overly sexualised in every shape and form. The film was cute overall, and I rate it a 10/10. It made me cry a shit ton because of how much I related to not accepting yourself for being who you are, and that people always assume that you are gonna fall in love and manipulate some straight man, in my case woman, to be in love with you because you are gay. It was cute. I recommend <3
