Ao Haru Ride: Unwritten is more or less the scenes of Futaba and Tanaka in their middle school years from the TV series. More or less being, they're all included here but put together with new scenes added to the mix more so, instead of single fragments every now and then like the TV series.
Let alone, it was really great. I personally loved the middle school scenes from Ao Haru Ride so this was really good for me, a whole episode about them in their middle school years. Although they don't introduce any new elements, possibilities or anything else the single fragments didn't introduce in
...
the TV series, the touching story and great characters is what you'll be watching this for.
As a "episode 0", there, of course, weren't any characters that were introduced after Futaba and Tanaka in the TV series, like I said they didn't add anything new the single fragments from the TV series didn't add, haha.
Story: 8/10
Same thing as the TV series, the story here was incredibly touching. Nothing felt wrong in any aspect. A stunning ability the story of Ao Haru Ride has, is how they can turn a simple love story plot that may be overused, into something so fresh and wonderful. You feel like you've been there, but Ao Haru Ride makes you know that it's not the same. This is something I admired Ao Haru Ride for, such a simple story yet it makes you feel so connected to the show because of the way they make things look and explain things. This is most likely why I gave the story a 8 regardless of it being the same as explained in the TV series, it's a really touching story that bloomed in a great way thanks to its creators.
Art: 8/10
Like I said, nothing changed here that you haven't seen from the TV series. It's pretty much reused since the whole point of this was to have an episode with all the fragments, so they didn't feel loose. This said, the art of course, is as beautiful as it ever was anywhere else. Always so living and beautiful, you know it makes you feel like you should be watching this.
Sound: 8/10
More copy and paste here, but what can do you do? As it was, the sound was incredibly fitting and was a little tear-jerker. The piano the show uses for it soundtracks leaves such an excellent taste in your ears.
Character: 9/10
This is where Ao Haru Ride shines the most, it's characters. It's no surprise the character section here was rated highest, the whole episode was backstory to both Futaba and Tanaka. I am so in love with Tanaka and Futaba, I'd take 3 paragraphs explaining how much I love them in the TV series but these are the middle school versions, sorry! Futaba still has that cute personality of hers that always makes her think she's an idiot, another great deal for this section would be the art because I love the way Futaba is designed! She looks idealistic to a human being, in fact, all the characters make me feel like I'm watching human beings communicate with each other. In the sense of, they're the typical human beings. Anime has it's huge share of making humans not resemble actual humans at all, Futaba and Tanaka aren't perfect, I feel like everything that happens in Ao Haru Ride could one day happen to me, this is the connection Ao Haru Ride tries to make in every episode, and Ao Haru Ride: Unwritten explains it the most. You know one day this is most likely to happen, if you know you won't, you know you can make that scene happen one day because it's not impossible. Tanaka keeps his super shy tone and personality as portrayed in "the before times" in the TV series, unlike his super cool outgoing self. :P
Enjoyment: 9/10!
It would've been a 10/10 if I haven't already seen it since these are mainly scenes already seen in the anime. Seeing a whole episode dedicated to these scenes from the show really made my day, Ao Haru Ride was one of my top 5 most hyped for Summer season and it's still in my top 5, I'm glad along with the adaptation, we got this. The middle school scenes from the TV series were amazing and way too touching, so experiencing this once again was way too great.
Overall: 8/10
A touching, well developed story was enjoyed to it's fullest. Regardless of the reused scenes, art, sound and everything really, this is a must watch for any Ao Haru Ride fan.
TL;DR
If you want to see the original middle school scenes from Ao Haru Ride with a few new scenes and text here and there, this is for you. If you think you want to start Ao Haru Ride starting here, this is the best starting point you can have.

Masterpiece, fucking masterpiece. Just beautiful. Let me tell you something, this is honestly the most unique series I have ever seen. Every part of this series is amazing in it's own way and I honestly won't understand how this animu is underrated. It makes me way too upset.
So the whole animu was based off Watanuki's life seeing spirits and how he meets Yuuko to grant his wish of getting rid of the spirits. I'm glad this animu didn't turn out to be one of those where something life changing happens at the beginning and the whole story is him living his new life. No, not
...
at all. He spends the whole series up until Rou working for Yuuko and changing his life bit by bit throughout the story, and his progression and the story let alone was pure enjoyment.
I'm telling you, this animu will change some of your point of views in ways. I for one after finishing the whole series (Holic, Holic Kei, Holic Shunmuki, Holic Rou, TV series, excluding the movie which was the prequel to Holic) I learned a few such as how, basically a famous line thanks to animu, --"There is no such thing as coincidence, there is only inevitable" or "It was destined to be". Cliche, rite????? But either way, how it's used in the animu is completely outstanding.
There's always been complaints about how the characters are drawn and look like walking stick figures, honestly who the hell cares? Remember how in video games, the N64 is probably still one of the biggest consoles in history, hell not even speaking of the parent SNES, for the games? How the games had crappy 3D graphics compared to nowadays and even with that, people probably play N64 games more than the current consoles? It's because THERE'S A POINT IN THE STORYLINE, SOUND AND ENJOYMENT. I agree the animation stands out from the rest, but honestly isn't seeing something different good most of the time? Not only that, it's what made the animu even more unique so it probably doesn't even matter.
Now, here's another thing. The soundtrack for this is fascinating, Rou had my favorite soundtrack out of the TV/OVA series. Honestly, I'm sure some people can agree? I wasn't a fan of the Holic Kei OP/ED, aiming more towards the ED so I'm glad Rou was there in terms of the sound. I really did love the whole soundtrack of the anime however, most animus have similar tastes and relations in their music. Sort of like how Deadman Wonderland and Mirai Nikki share similar soundtrack and such. Holic's soundtrack is completely unique and amazing which was one of my favorable parts of the animu. I'm going to download the whole original soundtrack soon because it really is worth it. Huge 10/10 here.
So for the characters, despite the animu not having a lot of characters, the characters were also really nice and shared their own personalities. Watanuki being the protagonist shares comedic personalities, Yuuko shares the wise personalities, Himawari shares that happy/cute personality, Zashiki shares that really shy personality towards Watanuki for liking him, Ame shares the rude personality, Doumeki shares the brave personality and so forth. It's really nice seeing how all of the characters in this didn't share each others personalities but their own. Cheers for this, this isn't something you see a lot.
Overall, I enjoyed watching the whole series. I learned a lot of things from this and my love for this grew so and so much throughout me watching. It is simply outstanding, unique and perfect. I wish to not change a single part of this.

I honestly love Tiger & Bunny as much as I love life. It really is amazing to me since it was indeed my first anime finished. Out of all, I'm glad this was my first anime.
The story/plot itself really is great, I could say it's one of my favorite plots of all time. How it all came together was amazing, especially the ending. There's nothing I could change about it, it really was that great for me.
The illustration was simply fantastic as well, I really loved Kotetsu's drawing more than anything. I really loved his suit and his normal clothes. Just the way he
...
looked like was enough for me, what he wears and looks like is something I would love to look like one day.
Soundtrack for this anime was simply art. Especially the battle theme, "Power for the Future" was stuck on repeat on my end for months and months to come. A more fitting sound could not be made for the battle scenes, it's really that unique. I simply love every part of this anime, really.
The reason I would give the characters a 9 out of 10 is simply because of Fire Emblem. I'm not against black people or homosexuals, but the way he dressed and looked like, really, was so annoying for me. I'm not sure why but he just annoyed me to death. I loved all the characters too, except him. I found him the most annoying thing I ever came across. SORRY FIRE EMBLEM FANS. All in all, the characters were so amazing. I really loved how Kotetsu's daughter was such a big influence in the last few episodes, since she isn't seen a lot throughout the anime.
I started watching anime in May 2013, Tiger & Bunny being my first finished anime. To this day I'm still obsessed with it. I love this anime to death, I simply do. I can't stress how much I do since it's not enough. All in all, watching this anime was one of my favorite decisions. I can't wait for the movie coming up next month, The Rising. Thanks for reading.
