If you want to see what a OVA looks like, look for the following:
1) An unlikeable heroine
2) An unoriginal story
3) Was originally a fanfiction
Trust me, there are good fanfictions out there that would be good enough to be a pretty decent spin off of some kind. However, FY Eikoden is a terrible fanfiction.
Mayo Sakaki is very unlikeable. Now girls would be able to relate to her more if she wasn't so god damned psycho while having this crush on Tamahome. Yui was more believable, but Mayo is downright psycho. Threatening to commit suicide because some boy doesn't like you? Geeze, and I thought Yui

was jerk. Yui was believeable in the sense that she was:
1) Extremely heart broken
2) Wanted revenge for being left behind by who she thought was her best friend
3) Admitted that she was wrong when she found out that Nakago was only lying to her.
I really felt that I could relate to Yui more then Mayo. I don't know who said that Mayo was believable but trust me, you're wrong.
The story could've been way better. At first, it would seem interesting. Espeically when you're all "oh, a new girl gets into the book? I'd like to see how this turns out." But then you're set up for disappointment.
The story would've been interesting to read as a fanfiction by itself. Espeically if the writing itself if good. But as an anime, it's just unenjoyable.
And moving onto the fact that it was originally a fanfiction. I have read better fanfiction then this crap. Way better. There are so many fanfictions that deserve to be published and turned into an anime; which is rather depressing.
FYE has all the traits of not only a bad fanfiction but also a bad anime. I loved the first Fushigi Yuugi indeed, but this is just a mockery.

When it comes to kiddie anime, I usually do not give out tens. And msot of what I say is opinion, not fact. So don't take it too personal just because I perfer this season over the other two.
Story:
Spinning tops has never been this badass before! And I love how they made it into an extreme professional sport. If you were to explain the story to someone who has never seen the anime, it would come off as silly to them.
Art:
The art style is pretty unique. I didn't like how the style was altered to look OMFG KAWAII ^__^ and like your typical
...
kiddie anime.
Sound:
It was pretty great. And for once English dubbers picked the right voice actors.
Characters:
The BladeBreakers are pretty much the most memorable characters I've noticed in anime. They're the only protagonists that I never got annoyed with. You can say that Takao is the main character, but in a way, him, Kai, Rei and Max are all the main characters and aren't there for just support. It's a good thing that you are led to hate the despicable Boris and you're led to root for Takao and friends.
Enjoyment:
This season holds my most cherished childhood memories that I had between grade 5-7. How could anyone not enjoy this?

The first season was quite enjoyable. After season 1 ended I was quite satisfied with an anime ending for once; no more was needed.
At first, I was excited about a new season. For a few weeks I anxiously waited for a new season, hell I even got up early enough to check if I didn't miss the first episode. So in excitement, I waited.
Finally, getting up early was worth it. The first episode aired sometime in July 2003-04 ish, correct me if I'm wrong. After watching the first episode I went all "Well, it can't be THIS bad throughout the entire season, could it?"

The answer is yes it can. My very first impression watching it was "I thought people grew UP, not DOWN!" In the first season, the BladeBreakers looked mature (and thank god they regained some of that maturity in GRev) but then they went all Chibi.
With hopes of the show improving and having its classic feeling again, I watched the season all the way through. It's hardly memorable and easily forgotten because it's so horrible. All I do remember is for once getting annoyed with Tyson and friends.
Story:
I've read better fanfiction. Seriously, watching the paint dry is much more interesting then the story itself.
Art:
I actually like the old school style of Beyblade. Why the hell did they choose to make it chibi? In the first season, the character's faces actually varied. But when this new style came in, they all had the same freakin' face. The only designed I like was Dr. K's (was that her name? I forget) because she at least looked mature.
Sound:
Not bad, but mediocre.
Character:
My biggest pet peeve of this season was the characters. Tyson/Takao becomes a bigger brat then he was (and he isn't funny while doing it like he was in the first season) and it was hard to take him seriously. Kai is emoer then usual (does he have to angst at every chance he's got? Seriously.) and he became extremely annoying. Ray came off as a ditz most of the time. Max was just plain out annoying. You think that's bad?! There's more!
So it seems that the animation studio decided to add in a cheerleader for the Bladebreakers because Yugi had a cheerleader (AKA Anzu Misaki). Yes, I am talking about Hilary/Hiromi. If I were to ask the BladeBreakers anything, it would be "How did you put up with that bitch?". Honestly, just how did they put up with her?
I was seriously hoping that Hilary was only going to be there breifly, but no, they had to make her a major character. She's basically only there to be the bitchy cheerleader who seems to enjoy hitting Tyson at every chance she gets. That's seriously all she does. She's more annoying then comic releif if you ask me.
What was her purpose anyway other then cheerleader role? At least Anzu had a purpose in YuGiOh.
Enjoyment:
One word: Pathetic. This season is the shadow of its former glory. Compared to GRev and the first season, this one sticks out like a sore thumb.
Overall:
I personally did not like this season at all. Maybe someone who has not seen the original first season might enjoy it, but any fan of the first season is gonna hate it.

At first glance, this seems like a promising anime. It looks like something that is worth wasting your time on. When I read the manga ending, I was utterly disappointed.
Episodes to watch:
1-70
102-122
Why do I only suggest those episodes? I'll explain right in this reveiw.
Story:

At first, the story starts out as something fresh and new; even if it borrowed elements from Fushigi Yuugi; it was something that started out as a fresh anime. The story quickly lost its magic that it had at first. Having Kikyo put into the twist at first was a good idea, but quickly was overused for the sake of the so-called "romance" of the series. She became nothing more then a plot device; which is sad because I liked her.
This anime does indeed have a story, but it started straying away from it as the series progressed.
Art:
You have to admit that it is good. But it only gets an eight because later on in the series the animators started copying and pasting frames over and over to the point where it got annoying and showed no talent. But it gets an eight because up until episode 130-something it was very good.
Sound:
'Twas fine. Voices could've been 100% better if Viz took the time to choose their voice actors; espeically the English Dubbers. Richard Cox does not obviously know how to change his tone when appropriote and Monica Stori disappointed me; she was so good in Gundam Wing and many other previous anime but this anime is particularly the reason why a lot of fans don't even like her. Kirby Morrow and whoever voiced Sango were okay, but they could've chosen a better actor for Shippo.
In both dubs, I couldn't wait for Inuyasha to finally shut his mouth as soon as he opened it. I have never hated a character's voice more then I've hated Inuyasha's.
Characters:
Pathetic. Down right pathetic. A good portion of the time I was rooting for the villains to win; I espeically was really hoping that Bankotsu would get Inuyasha to shut up for once.
They're all static characters. If you're looking for dynamic characters, this is not the series for you then. I would recrommend the Elfen Lied manga for dynamic characters. Inuyasha still is the same dumbass he was at the beginning of the series, Shippo, Miroku and Sango serve almost no purpose at all since episode 50 and on. Kagome is the only one who actually chances and therefore is a bit dynamic
The only interesting characters, in my opinion, are the Shichinintai; too fucking bad Rumiko killed them off. They could've saved the series and made it more intense but no, RT decides to throw that chance away and make it the bland series a lot of fans love to hate.
Enjoyment:
Between the time I was 11-14, I enjoyed this series a lot. But that was mostly because I hadn't seen more sophisiticated series like Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Elfen Lied or School Days. You'll probably enjoy it if you're new to anime and you have no expectations of the series.
Overall:
Unless you haven't watched any other anime, don't watch it.
