3 stars because non-consent. Anyone who’s been following my reviews, knows how much I despise that trope. Worse, when it’s used as comedy.
Non-consent may work sometimes for certain characters, but not when it involves sexual-like activities AND the non-consenting person clearly is uncomfortable (+ has done nothing to deserve it). Which was the case here.
Could’ve rated it 5 stars without it, because everything else is really good. Unfortunately, the sexual harassment was used as a running gag in each chapter, one time he was even forced to have sex; while he may have agreed to it, for once, he pretty much had
...
no real choice. (Positive Spoiler: they manage to resolve it without sex.)
The art is great, the characters are (aside from the non-consent) fun to follow around and I loved the slice of life. The latter makes it seem like it’s very slow-paced, showing ‘boring’ day tasks like cooking, cleaning, shopping etc. (which I’m a fan of). On the other hand, everything is resolved very quickly and jumps from one adventure to the next.
I would’ve wished to see more of Ume and Pequeño (cool name btw). They were such a cute duo and so much more interesting to read than the grown-ups.
Although grandpa was really sweet too, for his few appearances.
The older teens were mostly annoying tho, they’re (short) dramas were meant to be funny but not for me. Such basic, on a low level, humor that is nothing new and really could’ve been better.
Queer casualty but no queer plot – Luka mentions that demons don’t bother with gender roles or differences, also when it comes to sex or romance etc. It may be new for Sakura, who’s a human and interprets it as BL, the tropes are also very commonly Yaoi, but it isn’t really BL. Not that I minded though; I’m glad it focused on the daily life and the non-consent was just a (useless) side remark, so the book does end up having at least some charm.
There might’ve been a drag queen or trans person as a side character. I’m not sure cause she didn’t use a label, but it’s cool either way. Men being or looking feminine is normal here. (It still pulls a lot of heteronormative tropes, such as a photo shooting where they’re dressed up as a husband & wife for a wedding theme.)

The cover looked pretty boring, but after taking a look inside on the publisher’s site, it did seem quite cool actually, so I checked it out.
I was gonna say the style reminds me a lot of Fairy Tail and One Piece, but Hiro Mashima is literally the mangaka of Fairy Tail, so yeah...
If you like FT or OP, you’ll love this too, probably. I, on the other hand, have never been intrigued by those 2 franchises, and this manga shows why. The art is great and I love how diverse everyone’s appearance is, but that’s about it.
Personalities of everyone are incredibly
...
flat, there’s no real plot except constant fighting, and the main goal is something as basic as killing the ruler/god of the world. Protagonist has the most plain MC-energy, someone who would’ve died in the first page if he were a side character. But he’s not. So while the side characters are all more interesting (my favs are Chako, Frey and Mikoto (these two're unhinged, I love them)), he steals the focus with his lameness. Or may get a harem because he’s from a rare species. Nothing intriguing.
I was so bored most of the time. Wanted to give it a chance tho, trying to figure out where exactly the hype comes from, but again shows that I don’t understand mainstream hype.
But of course – it ends on a cliffhanger. I’m not really interested in following this story, though I do wanna know what happens... ugh. Although it’s quite self-explainable how it’ll continue and end.
Maybe I’ll check out volume 2 someday, maybe not. It’s definitely not in my priority list, though. If you’re gonna do the most basic dungeon academy plot for the perverted male gaze, at least give it some originality. Like a queer twist or a disability rep or something. Not chewing the same old heteronormative & neurotypical gum over and over again. (Well, I guess perverted men don't need more than that.)

The blurb sounded really cool – dark. It does start pretty unhinged and like the beginning of a slowly creeping horror story, but then focuses a bit (too much for my taste) on a hetero romance and I wanted to barf. However, I had a bad feeling about the guy’s trying-too-hard-to-be-good vibe from the beginning and turned out I was right. That relationship does develop into a disgusted moment.
Worse is, it’s not a horror-fantasy type of moment, it’s incredibly realistic for a lot of women – mainly, but not only. The peak evilness of humanity which even makes the devil cry.
I hate
...
him so much, I can’t believe I actually felt bad for him when his father physically abused him. That I actually gave him a chance. PFF, listen to your gut, people.
Well, I mean, the physical abuse probably is the reason why he turned into such an ass. BUT it makes me love Chi even more. She showed him how asses like him are dealt with! How feminists should deal with asses like him in real life. Should be sold as a guide-book, in fact. (Do make sure to read it in secrecy and don’t tell any republicans/misogynists, because they will ban the book.)
I hope there’ll be a manga continuation, cause I’m not really into watching horror/thriller movies. I prefer reading these genres, especially in graphic novel format – horror simply looks better drawn than live acted, IMO. Although it is a neat idea to have a prequel of and ad for a movie in comic form.
Though I’d be curious why it’s called “toxic daughter”. Based on this prequel alone, it should be “toxic children”.
~
4.5 stars leaning to the 4th cause that one scene did make me very uncomfortable, especially cause there are no trigger warnings regarding that whatsoever. Having blood and such in a horror novel, okay, expected, but not romance-related violence. And, also, Yua was sometimes too quiet, it got a bit annoying. Understandable, but annoying.
I don’t really like anyone from the characters, except Chi, but they’re well made from a writer’s perspective – and have lots of depth for the length.

That was so... heartwarming. Soft and tender, sweet and magical.
I was moved to tears here and there, though mostly smiled through it, and deeply felt with all of the characters. It has stirred me so profoundly, especially the ending, left me with an unexplainable longing, that I’m a bit too awestruck to form any words.
...
I’ve found it on Webtoon and re-read the entire thing right after, and ... I’m still touched and slightly melancholic, but have regained the memory to form words and find adjectives to describe this piece of art.
It starts off a bit heavy and tense, tackling bullying issues. But as soon as
...
Sori finds the first letter, which already happens in chapter 1, things gradually get better. The scavenger hunt takes her through school, to corners one can not find with their eyes. These little adventures slowly bring her uplifting spirit back, she makes a friend, even two, and as she warms up to her environment, so do the people around her.
A journey of what an act of kindness can achieve, of what a tiny spark can ignite. Quite inspiring and hopeful.
Plus, simple-ish (and diverse) character designs with calming backgrounds, all in full-color!
I truly am sad that it’s so short, but at the same time glad, cause I feel the story wouldn’t have had the same effect if it was longer. There’s just something about subtle touches that linger longer than a deep dive.
Though I do wish to see the characters again, perhaps in a sequel or short stories. Or even an anime adaptation?
(Ps: in my head-canon, they’re a triad.)

As both volumes feel like an AU to each other and can totally be each read as a stand-alone, heres my review for both separately.
~~~
Volume 1: 9/10
The story is quite fast-paced, a bit too quick sometimes, and yet, at the same time, felt like a slow read. In a good way, though? I'm not sure how to explain.
It's overall a nice concept with loveable characters. Although the romance was almost insta-love, which isn't my favorite trope, I did feel the chemistry between them.
It has a tender writing style, with some nice quotes that make the death theme more poetic rather than dark. I loved
...
that vibe while reading.
It did lack a bit of depth, which I, on one hand, find unfortunate, cause instead of having a side-story with Iku's mom, that time could've been used to give more moments between Iku and Mimori. On the other hand, it makes it quite realistic, showing that we all have side-stories in our lives, and there's never enough time to spend 100% time on one plot. Even if we wanted.
Maybe it was never intended to be a deep love. This manga's love story certainly isn't anything new, but the "fleeting moment" vibe did touch me in a soft way.
~
Volume 2: 6/10
Sometimes it's better to keep your head-canons to yourself. Even if you're the author.
Volume 1 had the perfect ending, why stretch it unnecessarily? Just for money? Especially the smut scene was screaming 'fanservice sequel'.
It would be good in itself, or like an AU type of thing, but fells incredibly flat as a sequel. Especially cause this ending was essentially the same as vol1's ending …
Also, the dialogues here were very confusing. Not sure whether that's just the translation – hopefully, honestly, otherwise it adds another point to the one above.
3 stars cause it wasn't really bad, just "meh", and also had consent, which is so rare for Yaoi/BL. Additionally, the soft/tender vibe from volume 1 was here too, and I did like the one chapter from Mimori's perspective.
Chapter 1 of this volume should've been completely scratched though.
For lawful reasons: I don't support anything in this story.
Is the story bad? Totally.
Should I or anyone be reading this? No.
Should the author/artist have published this? No.
But they have, so we might as well get a look at their fictional fantasies.
Totally unhinged, and sometimes gross (especially the spicy food scene, and the way Kanade's face is drawn when she's climaxing … or the amount of sweat each chapter). But so unhinged that it's … kinda intriguing.
It's interesting, alright. I love it when authors explore different fetishes. And while I totally would never ever want to experience them myself, let alone watch someone irl do
...
so … it's cool to explore such things in fiction.
I mean, can you even call that pedophilia? Yuzuki started it, and definitely knows what she's doing. Kanade doesn't even want it from Yuzuki per se, Yuzuki just happens to know exactly what she's doing, and Kanade is touch-starved.
And they technically don't even do sexual things, Kanade just happens to get aroused by specific BDSM play – that could technically be brushed off as "just kids messing around". And she seems to be discovering that for the first time for herself.
Wish I kept it at volume 1, though.
Volume 2 was … not so great. V1 might've been BDSM, but v2 turned into physical abuse where the bottom got seriously hurt, like: getting your hands and back burnt, being extremely bitten by mosquitoes, getting bitten, or even getting peed on. The spanking scenes were fine I guess, but … the kids' faces were seriously creepy. Both Yuzuki and Mako. They totally turned into Yandere's, and it's genuinely terrifying. Especially how much control they have over Kanade and Takano.
Kudos for the author/artist for being brave enough to put this into the world, tho. It's definitely a unique read, if you're looking for something … different.
Most popular girl x most hated school president
Nagi is a slacker student who mostly goes to school to create a harem for herself.
Asako, on the other hand, is a very strict school president, who doesn't let anything slide.
So when Nagi finds out about a secret rule break from Asako, she promises to keep quietly only when Asako agrees to become her girlfriend.
~
I normally don't like arrogant characters, who are the most popular in school and try to woo yet another person into their harem. But I do like it when that other person doesn't let themselves be played with that easily, and instead tops Miss
...
Popular when it comes to flirting!
You'd think Nagi has all experiences needed for that, but Asako just throws her off unexpectantly with pretty much everything. I love it when arrogant characters like Nagi get put into their place like this!
And the fact that they both have an agenda in this relationship. It's not just Nagi blackmailing Asako, Asako also is using her for her own goals. Toxicity is only nice to read when both sides do it equally. <3
It's even better that Asako is probably on the aro spectrum (I'm guessing demiromantic and/or maybe even quoiroromantic) and therefore has a bit of a Kuudere face when it comes to anything romance that Nagi has to offer. I love Kuudere vibes so much!! <3
I don't really ship them honestly, but the tropes so far have been used well, so I'll continue just for that.
It had a rough start, but a great middle part, and then, unfortunately, a rough ending.
The art is cute, the character designs are typical yuri/cgdct, the characters being quite similar but still have distinctive features, and you'll get the typical yuri dating tropes. Festival, fireworks, fever, bath, school trips, school festival … what was not so common was the planetarium and the ski trip. That was cool as a change.
Volume 1 was awful. It had a sweet first chapter, but Minami was way too much, too annoying from chapter 2 on! Felt like I was reading a thriller based on her heart beat.
Volume 3
...
and 4 were my favorites, the progress there was great! Well, as the other reviewers have said, the progress was more episodic, yes, but it still looked like they were having fun, and Minami finally came down a little in v3. It was actually enjoyable watching them together, after I wondered in v1 how they were bffs for 7 or so years.
Even the first half of volume 5 seemed really promising! There were some really cute moments there! <3
But then there was this one moment that should've been the climax, yet it ended up being very anti-climatic. When it came to the verbal confession at the end, I didn't feel anything for them anymore. I didn't need for them to be together as lovers anymore, I would have honestly liked if they didn't end up together and move on from their crush. THAT would've been a mature take! Unfortunately it didn't.
As much as I love melancholy, I did not like whatever the author wanted to show at the end. Was it supposed to be more realistic? Good job, but after the extreme blushing from the previous volumes, i do not see why there was any need to bring this down to earth now. Especially cause you'd want readers to keep rooting for them, not achieve the opposite. Maybe it just me, though, I don't know.
More often than not, their hopelessness reminded me of 'Adachi & Shimamura'. If you like their awkwardness, you'll definitely like Yuzu & Minami too.
The supporting characters were really nice, and our MCs would've been totally done for without Kamiya – the angel!
I'm disappointed we didn't get to see more of Tsubasa and Kosame, though.
Plot: Snakeman saves sparrowman from boars, but sparrowman calls snakeman evil and they part ways. Upon meeting again, they accidentally lose their clothes, sparrowman sees snakeman's genitalia and is so mesmerized by it that he cannot help himself but grope him. Snakeman has never been touched in that way, but it felt kinda good, so now he wants to see sparrowman again.
~
I don't care if you don't have the same genitalia and may have never seen the genitalia of another species, but you do not just touch and keep touching it when the person tells you "no" multiple times!
That was absolutely cringe and uncomfortable.
...
"Falling in love after rape" type of trope. Additionally, sparrow guy is very immature and childlike (I already found him annoying in the first chapter), so it basically felt like a child is molesting a young man, and that's even more uncomfortable.
Also, the last chapter? <spoiler> Why does sparrow suddenly have a normal human penis, when earlier he said he does not have any genitalia and birds mate by rubbing their asses together?? </spoiler>
Unlike some other reviewers, I did like the anatomical correct genitalia. Makes it unique. Well, except for the last chapter.
It could've been a cute story without the sexual assaults, cause the other scenes do feel like the author was onto something sweet. But WITH them, it's just off-putting.
3 stars for the art and 1 star for the concept, but … minus 5 stars for the execution and plus 3 stars for achieving utter uncomfortableness in me. Do not recommend, unless you're into this rapey trope.
Ichigo lives in a large city, but since the pandemic started and her breakup with her girlfriend a year ago, she's been touch starved ever since. Shy as she is, meeting someone while having to keep a certain distance, wouldn't be an easy task for her. Just then, she gets an ad about a lesbian hotel on the oceanside with a nudist beach. She hesitates, but eventually books a night.
A touch-starved lesbian in a lesbian hotel with a nudist beach – heaven on earth! Ichigo sure is overwhelmed at first, but quickly accepts her luck and happiness. Even more so, when she finally finds
...
someone.
One of the few covid-inspired stories I love. The nudist beach and lesbian hotel surely is a cool idea, something that should be explored more often in GL Manga.
Well-drawn, as expected from Mira. Only the two main women I found a bit not my taste – no pun intended – but given it was so short and the main focus lied elsewhere, it's fine. The supporting characters were nice though (especially that one throuple!) and I also loved the Yuri Worshippers – er, hotel staff I meant, of course.
