(Reviewing both seasons)
Blue exorcist is the epitome of mediocre. I was drawn to the show via the premise. Demons are often used in Anime as an enemy group, but very seldom do anime tie that in with religion and specifically Christianity/Catholicism. I quite like history and topics related to this (Dantes inferno, Renaissance paintings, etc.) However, blue exorcist is a complete let down. The main reason being that the show has nothing particularly noteworthy, especially the story.
-Story: 4/10, The story uses the "Fight of the week" style progression which bores me to death. Easy to follow true, but lacking in complexity and depth. Predictable,
...
Unintuitive, and Slow.
-Art: 5/10, Typical mid to late 2000s shounen art, need I say more? Its not bad, but I cant give it a good score if it is just average
-Sound 5/10, Again, typical. I'm willing to give it more leniency depending on preference, and the fact that I'm basically tone deaf. However, the sound in Blue Exorcist makes me think the audio team just downloaded the first free "Swords Clashing" or "Fireball" sound they could find. Also the OSTs were terrible, I try and listen to the OST every episode of every anime I watch, but for this show it was a definite skip after the first two listens
-Character: 4/10, Second worst aspect of the show. All but a few lack depth whatsoever, and their motives are rarely explained, and in the case they are explained its often confusing and ridiculous. I feel like characters having goals provides more light into them. I counted two that had thoroughly explained goals
-Enjoyment, 5/10: The concept was the tugboat that pulled this sinking ship to shore. I enjoyed watching the show at its peaks, enough to not make want the episode to be over so I could get back to my day at least. If you enjoy the concept of the show I assume it will also pull you along
Overall I give the show 5/10. Boring, Mediocre and, seemingly low effort. If you told me the show was an Animation student's grad project I wouldn't doubt you for a second. If you enjoy constantly wanting to look at your phone for 20 minutes, but convincing yourself not to because you need to pay attention to the show, this is for you. I have higher expectations for the next season(s) of the show. If the mangaka hadn't perfected his craft when he wrote this story arcs, then I'm willing to forgive and forget. The show has so much potential to be something much more, something I'm excited to watch. Until then, no thanks 5/10

Samurai Champloo is hands down my favorite anime so far, Steins; Gate comes in at a close second, but Samurai Champloo takes the cake. If I were to write the pros of this anime I'd be here all day, so I will instead list the, very few, cons. The story is lacking. I gave the story an 8 because for the most part its a slice of life, not inherently bad, but not inherently the best for the story. In the few episodes where the story is crucial, it is beautiful and wonderful. In the rest the character development makes up for it. The art,
...
sound, characters, etc. is outstanding the early to mid 2000's style was executed perfectly, what cowboy bebop was to jazz, champloo is to hiphop. I truly can't praise this anime enough. I would highly highly recommend if you have the time to spare and enjoy really any type of anime.

The story of golden kamuy is enjoyable, at least in the first season. It first appealed to me with its history, wilderness themes, and treasure hunt themes. I All of those themes greatly interest me. However, where golden kamuy falls short is its attempt to combine all of those, and many more themes (cooking, ainu culture, political drama, slice of life, etc...) into one. Each episode feels like unimportant to the overall story and as if it was just put there because the author said "Hmm wouldn't it be cool if we did blank". I don't dislike any of these themes on there own, but
...
together they don't seem to mesh well. I would also like to note that it's not inherently bad to put these together, but it doesn't lead to a higher score. The animation speaks for itself, its not remarkable and its not atrocious, I'm willing to overlook the cgi bears, but the first time I saw one I paused the show thought about how that might have been the worst production descion I have seen so far. The sound also speaks for itself, I'm in the minority here but I enjoyed the OP ngl. Characters are a redeeming aspect of the show, they all have very distinct personalities and quirks. Moments of the show made me genuinely laugh from time to time, and these moments distract from the incoherent parts of the show. Some of the characters seem to like emotion and drive, but I'm willing to overlook that because I don't think the show is that serious. Overall the show in enjoyable and worth a watch if nothing else is piquing your interest at the moment. The themes of the show clash quite harshly, which can detract from the experience. Just a fun show to put on if your bored, but don't expect too much. 6/10
