I came into this show not knowing anything, meaning I have zero expectations or idea of what "Banana Fish" was about besides that it was rated pretty high for the season it came out and I really liked the name. Right off the bat, you can tell this was written by a sheltered Japanese person who has a pretty naive view of...everything. It's like gay Vincenzo set in New York where their idea of New York is what they experienced spending maybe a couple days in Manhattan. You'll like this if you like yaoi, but it's not for the broader audience

I was not happy with this OVA. I really liked Kyou's character throughout Clannad and Clannad After Story, but this really ruined it (I watched this after watching Clannad, the Tomoyo OVA, and Clannad AS because I messed up the viewing order) Kyou came off as immature, even slutty in this OVA. I always saw her as a figure of stability, a strong version of Ryou. But after she tried to force herself onto Sunohara, I basically lost all respect for her. *SPOILERS* (I have a lot of questions I really need to get off my chest through a review)
I'd like to start by saying I really, really enjoyed this anime. It was extremely exciting and the art is really top notch in my opinion. That being said, there are some plot holes. I can believe the story for the most part, until Five steps in. First off, holy shit her English. It just made me want to punch a hole in the wall.
