To tell the truth, I haven't finished this, but that's because I'm a wimp and I like happy endings with flowers and butterflies (you can tell from the first episode that there aren't any flowers or butterflies here). I'm on episode 12 and I've read summaries of the other episodes. Some parts make me uncomfortable, it's very dark, and when watching this, I almost feel a sense of boredom.
The story is rather original and the plot is well thought out. It is very deep and dark, nothing for the faint-hearted. I love the mystery and the bits of foreshadowing, good stuff. I gave it a

9, because the ending isn't very complete (I haven't watched it, but that's what I get from secondary sources).
I liked the art. The animation was really good, and I loved Ciel's attire. I did think that Sebastian's lips were too sharp, and he looked a little bit TOO evil sometimes (I guess it's to be expected, he is a demon). There was WAY too much blood for my liking, but maybe it was necessary. I gave it a 9.
I think that the music suited the anime very well, and caught the dark tones. The music set the mood well, but I think they used the tune of "London Bridge Is Falling Down," way too much. I never liked that song. I gave it an 7.
The characters were OK. Ciel was interesting, but it unnerved me that he acted so old at the age of 12. Elizabeth annoyed me, because her overwhelming carefree attitude (yes yes she was sad because Ciel was sad, it's devastating), contrasted drastically with Ciel's dark depth. The servants at the mansion were mostly used for comic relief, which also annoyed me. Sebastian's almighty-ness got to me when he was in the ice-carving contest. My favorite character was Grell, but I liked the Undertaker, and Pluto was quite adorable (as a human). At episode 12, I haven't seen much character development. I gave it a 7.
I did enjoy the series, but after hearing so much of London Bridge in episode 11 and 12, and Grell having left without spending a day with Sebastian, I'm putting this on hold. After I read the summaries for the rest of the episodes, I'm thinking about abandoning this, not because it's not enjoyable, but I'm really not into dark plots. I gave enjoyment an 8 because, well, watching this made me unhappy, because of how dark this is. The comic relief provided by the servants almost seemed out of place.
Overall, I gave this a 7. I guess the total was less than the sum, but it was probably the feeling of indifference that I felt when watching this that made it so. I was a complete fan girl when Grell was there, and the Undertaker made me cackle, but other than that, and I couple of laughs and giggles, I didn't feel much for this. I had a problem with a 12 year old giving away his soul. I would recommend it if you like this kind of thing. People die in this, people are unhappy, no one can be trusted (except those comic relief characters), and almost everyone has a tragic past, it's a good series.
