Are you searching for good, classic fantasy? Then Tobira o Akete is for you!
You will not find anything very original here but, hey! The fun is here!
Story: 7
A good, solid story, although a classic one. A girl with psychic powers and two esper boys are transported to a medieval fantastic world and the girl learns she's the savior from this world, a reincarnation of a legendary princess with magic powers.
Classic? Hell yes, but there is quite a lot of surprises here and there and the rythm of the story is very good.
Art: 7
Classic and quite good for its time. Nothing bad and the
...
colors are quite good.
Excellent backgrounds with evocative power.
Sound: 8
The strong point of this anime. The musics are very 80's, with a very good song included in the middle and the end.
Definitely was a good time for japanese pop and music, then. The action musics are excellent and dynamic.
Characters: 7
Although they are all classic, two stand out. Landin, the "dark elf" with a shaddy appearance that welcomes the heroin in this strange new world, has a an interresting behavior and motivations.
La Midin dimida, the "ogre princess", is a kind of Sheris (from the Lodoss war series, best Fantasy anime ever) with a more "manly" manner of speaking. She is strong and charismatic (and especially beautiful!).
The heroine, Neko, is quite interresting in itself, for when her past is revealed to us, all can relate to her.
Enjoyment: 8
Solid action and adventure, good characters, excellent music. what do you want more? You also have a bit of humor and drama. All in all, very well paced.
Overall: 8
Kind of a must see for all the old anime fans. Not a classic as Lodosss, but a solid enjoyment comes from watching this anime that is not put to shame compared to a lot of recent series.
Give it a try and I bet you'll like it!

Stumbled upon this in the maison de la culture du Japon à Paris, a japanese cultural agency quite famous among Japan's lovers here in France.
Il was visiting their shop which is expensive to say the least. ^^' and went "Wow!" Buronson, famous Hokuto no Ken and Sanctuary writer, famous for his manly men PLUS Kentaro Miura, also famous for his manly men?
This has to be the team of the year! And at a post apocalyptic story at that!
Took it for the sheer awesomeness of theses authors and their duo.
And I wasn't displeased. Ok, the story is quite sketchy: it's a social and economical critic of
...
1992's Japan (this manga was written in 1992 and published in my contry in 2008).
You take a Kenshiro/Guts look alike, give him a Casca (the journalist he is infatuated with), a bunch of "who cares about tomorrow?" Japanese youngsters, who are quite dislikable (the two yakuzas are the good guys!!! o_O) and you have them travel by mystical means quite ridculous (a carthaginian magician? Really?Who knows about Japan, at that???) in a Hokuto no Ken background.
It's action all the way, with the "normal men" (the journalist and the youngsters) looking after the criminals for advice and protection.
The manly hero is very moral for a yakuza, helps japanese people oppressed by the "evil" neo europeans, as Japanese people are picked on for being the country which behaviour harvested most of the tragedy that befell the future.
This, I didn't like: this manga reeks of a bit of nationalism (which is normal, as yakuzas are known to often be right-wingers). Europeans are the bad ones and do not think at the least that their beheviour was a bit responsible for the global catastrophe (pitiful. We are as much responsible of global warming, economic disasters and all as the United states and Japan, especially in 1992).
In the times of 1992, you can see spanish kids begging the japanses youngsters for money, as would indian kids of today. Even by 1992 standards, that was not a normal behaviour, I can tell you. Spain was poor then, but not so much as this.
As for the qualities, I would tell that action is neat, psychological reactions of the bunch of heroes are plausible and that art is great.
There is a christic figure which is depicted as kind of ineffective. That is this manga's authors's thoughts, you can tell for sure!
The end is quite good, as the hero as a goal in mind which is the right solution to this world's evils. And it's logical for the name he uses for it reveals the utopia he plans to build.
Kind of a Hokuto no Ken for the faint of heart, with a social and economic critic which is not subtle at all, but is quite effective, especially, in the light of what we see of Japan's actual crisis, it prooves to be quite prophetic.
All in all, a good action manga.

What a dogmatic story!!!
The film is actually a vehicle for the teachings of Ryuho Okawa, head of the quasi-religious sect 'The Institute for Research in Human Happiness'.
It is technically quite well made, but the characters are without interest, as is the story.
To reveal it is to make you avoid watching it. there will be a massive amount of spoilers, so be warned!
First, if you are a non believer in a religion of any kind, be assured that, according to this anime, you will rot in hell, with the likes of Hitler and...Nietzche!
...
Yes! They place Nietzsche on the same level as Hitler! Unbelievable!
Rest assured that some angels will try to teach you the errors of your ways. Phew! that was close!
As we can see in this film, paradise is filled with people who are very pure of heart. A single bad thought and you are sent to hell.
That must be quite fearsome, to live in paradise!
Finally, paradise is divided between several "realms" (nine actually) and the most you strive for humanity, as Hellen Keller, Mother Theresa or Thomas Edison (yes, the fearsome businessman that stole the works of one Nikola Tesla), the upper you will be placed in heaven. There, you will have several incarnations in order to help humanity again, as you will be able to travel to the past, present and future.
All this under the guidance of religious figures (mostly christian and buddhist) that respond to a kind of conglomerate of five wise, almost godlike (or is this aspects of God?) men, such as Hermes trismegist, Thot or "Ophealis" (who the hell is that?).
You will be happy to learn that Mu and Atlantis were historical realities and ancient but largely superior civilisations than ours.
And that we are DESTINED to fulfill a role since ou birth.
And that science without religion is an errance (not to compare with the whole "science without conscience is the soul's perdition" from Pascal, a genuine philosopher, not the like of the crap from this anime)
Technically speaking, the art is nice, the special effects are cool and the songs are awful.
As for the general interest of the thing, it's like watching Michael Bay having a remake of "battlefield Earth", the scientology brain-washing film with John Travolta.
AVOID this anime!
