Gantz is a death game where people are forced to to kill. So the premise is similar, although the setting is completely different. One is fantasy, while the other is sci fi. being a game, SOA doesnt have any actual gore, while Gantz is more mature with both gore, and mature content. If you like one, you might enjoy the other if you want to feed on some misery in different forms.

Zero no Shiniki

Although incomplete, Zero no shiniki's meager chapters give you a good experience and a nice peek into the world that was made. Unlike log horizon, zero is darker, and people enter the world as they fall asleep, and like most game manga, its a death game. If youre looking for a quickie, this should be enjoyable.

Overlord

It's baffling that Overlord wasn't recommended here, perhaps because there's a large amount of spin-offs for sword art, nevertheless i will fill the void here. Overlord is about a person that lives on inside a world that started out as a game, but became something more, if you enjoyed sword art, you will definitely love Overlord.

These two manga's are a peas in a pod. A strong player living and fighting In a VRMMO as if it was real life, unable to log out. The similarity is outstanding. Yet The New Gate shows a totally different story right from the first chapter, if you enjoyed one, you will definitely enjoy the other.

The only similarity is that both main characters spend a lot of time in a combat oriented game world. That being said, if you can get over Accel's main character"s disturbing appearance, you'll enjoy it as well.

Although at first Gantz starts off at a small scale, the later chapters become similar to the setting in ayanashi in the idea of humanity being cornered. Its a long read, if you dont enjoy gantz itself, then it wont be worth reading all the way up to the point that led me to make this recommendation. Otherwise, please enjoy.

I can't believe nobody suggested this one yet. At the moment, next to SOA, Overlord is what everyone compares game manga/anime to. Although the only similarity between the two mangas is the setting as well as the presence of gore, Overlord is a must read. Check out the overlord anime as well.

Zero no Shiniki

Eden is a fairly old manga, and has very little in common with shiniki other than the main goal of the manga. Its a survival manga. People forced into a situation where they have to fight for their lives in an unreasonable environment. Liking one doesn't necessarily mean you'll like the other, but it may be worth a read if you've got time, plus its completed.

These two series have only one thing in common, and that is the fact that the setting in which shiniki is sucked into is what one would consider a game world. This recommendation is for those who like the Game genre.

Other the premise is different, its similar in that people are forced to play a life or death game. Except here they are sort of in the real world, Lots of blood, gore and a twinge of affection between characters, If the unfinished shiniki left a sour taste in your mouth, this completed manga may just fill the void.

Despite being different genres and being under different circumstances, The stories are somewhat similar in that the main character is periodically sucked into a situation that is a considered a life or death game. In shiniki you get money, in gantz you get points. One is sci fi while the other is fantasy, if you like one, you might like the other.
