While the first part of season 2 was overall a pretty good adaptation of the story, it tended to skim or outright skip many moments of volumes 7, 8 and 9 (the adapted volumes). While this was a detriment, the important beats were kept and masterfully adapted to the screen.
That can't be said for the second cour. The sheer amount of important scenes skipped and/or poorly adapted, specially during the second half of the story. The one episode I consider to be on par with season 1 in terms of direction and adaptation is episode 5 (Norn's episode), the rest are either lackluster or downright
