Even as a historical revisionist who finds the "demonic Nazis" archetype cliched and dull, I must admit Hellsing does it right. Hellsing is a show that knows, and acknowledges throughout it is epic. It is an apocalyptic three way battle between 2 morally gray and 1 evil faction, accompanied by interesting dialogue, sharp visuals, and a powerful operatic soundtrack. The addition of extra factions aside from the Protestants and Millennium, was great as it added an extra dimension to the story, that made the intentions of the characters all the more questionable, and the battles all the more epic. All the characters were very memorable ... and made their mark on the story, and the slow unveiling of the hidden histories of them is well timed and fascinating. Overall this anime is excellent, my only critique being the sometimes perverse erotic themes occasionally placed, and the sometimes too over the top violence. That aside, regardless of any preconceptions, Hellsing is one you must not miss. I recommend this also if you like Owari No Seraph, due to similar themes.

It looks cute from the cover, and the concept seemed similar to host Club so I thought why not give it a shot But in actuality it seems quite soulless. All of the characters are very vague and trope-ish, and none of them are memorable. The show revolves around jokes which are usually funny only 1/3rd of the time. The setting was pretty meh, and the animation was extremely basic. Eh what should one expect from an anime based on some song I've never heard before. The characters were normal at best, and annoying at worst. I found myself incredibly bored, and getting through an ... episode seemed like a chore. Would not watch this.

I stumbled upon this movie in my YouTube recommendations. I clicked on it out of curiosity, to look at it for a few seconds and then go back to whatever nonsense I was doing. But when I scrolled a bit into the film, the mere sight of the visuals instantly took me aback. It was as if I had always known this feeling in my mind, seen such dark landscapes in my imagination, yet not fully. I was intrigued. The film moved slowly, but each movement, even if but a still frame, made me think. The gothic landscapes, the ruins, the orb in the sky. ... Every piece of scenery had a story to tell, and made you think about a history, which may or may not exist. The biblical imagery was striking, and lonely. This film will stick with me for a long time, the scenery, the story, and more importantly what was not there, yet somehow was.

As for own my theory, it is obvious it takes place in an alternate timeline in which Noah's Ark capsized. However the rest of the plot is not so obvious. But from the clues given, we can make some intact questions which can help us interpret the film? One peculiar question is how did humanity advanced from ancient times into a period capable of producing the temple like ruins, and later gothic architecture. One could explain that these structures were always in the state of decay since their inception. A theme in this film seems to be "lost potential." The fishermen are chasing the mere shadows of great beast of the sea, however they are simply, shadows, and when they try to hit them, they only destroy what is left of the world. Could this symbolize the lack of nurturing god has provided to this world? Or maybe the useless, human strife, in which only destroys in pursuit of unachievable goals. Perhaps the city was a monument created by the angels or whatever beings reigned after the time of the flood, as a monument to what could have been history if things had gone the way of our world. This is also obvious in smaller aspects throughout the movie, especially the stained glass seen in a Cathedral." The glass is complete, however is strategically missing sections, most likely biblical figures who would never have come. This is brought up again at the end of the movie, as it was depicted in the beginning as well. The orb appears to be filled with many figures, who I assume are the unborn heroes of history, particularly saints or some other icons. When the girl dies at the end of the movie, she joins them, for she is in a way the alternate version of the Virgin Mary. She was supposed to hatch the egg, which she believed would be the dove to restore the world. However the egg was opened prematurely by her male companion, revealing it may have been empty. Could this symbolize a false religion, the want to obtain salvation with little patience? Or perhaps the egg was hatched, and the death of the girl was her sacrifice to give a greater chance of salvation by birthing more eggs through her demise. But how does this correlate to the other eggs scattered throughout the land, held within the trees? As these eggs remain static as they were in the start of the film, could this be the true salvation, forever withheld from hatching, and the eggs of the girl the desperate attempt at one, however in the end insufficient and false to the truth?

That's all I got. I love this film and whether it has a definite meaning or not does not matter, for even if it didn't that would mean you could see it anyway you wished.
