Even as a historical revisionist who finds the "demonic Nazis" archetype cliched and dull, I must admit Hellsing does it right. Hellsing is a show that knows, and acknowledges throughout it is epic. It is an apocalyptic three way battle between 2 morally gray and 1 evil faction, accompanied by interesting dialogue, sharp visuals, and a powerful operatic soundtrack. The addition of extra factions aside from the Protestants and Millennium, was great as it added an extra dimension to the story, that made the intentions of the characters all the more questionable, and the battles all the more epic. It looks cute from the cover, and the concept seemed similar to host Club so I thought why not give it a shot But in actuality it seems quite soulless. All of the characters are very vague and trope-ish, and none of them are memorable. The show revolves around jokes which are usually funny only 1/3rd of the time. The setting was pretty meh, and the animation was extremely basic. Eh what should one expect from an anime based on some song I've never heard before. I stumbled upon this movie in my YouTube recommendations. I clicked on it out of curiosity, to look at it for a few seconds and then go back to whatever nonsense I was doing. But when I scrolled a bit into the film, the mere sight of the visuals instantly took me aback. It was as if I had always known this feeling in my mind, seen such dark landscapes in my imagination, yet not fully. I was intrigued. The film moved slowly, but each movement, even if but a still frame, made me think. The gothic landscapes, the ruins, the orb in the sky. ...
