Now every manga reader says “You gotta read Berserk” and I'm about to share my thoughts on the entire series of a whole up until Chapter ‘378’
(Story Stuff)
Now as a story Berserk has its ups and downs, I think it's universally agreed that The Blackswordsman arc - The Golden Age arc are perfect, Perfect in terms of what message they want to say and visually perfect in everything they want to show the reader
Now I won't get into specifics with the other arcs, But it is worth mentioning that most of my favorite scenes/panels came from The Falcon Of The Millennium Empire arc, I
...
just enjoyed a lot of the moments there
(Character Stuff)
Guts
I think as a character is one of the most real protagonist I've ever seen, He's not a plastic shell that people and see themselves in or some flawlessly righteous hero, He goes through Anger, Fear, Joy and Sadness lots and lots of Sandness, He would go walk through the pits of hell over hot coal and broken glass just for the one woman he loves, A quality and feelings that 99% of men (Including myself) would share for the sake of our love ones, I feel Guts is the embodiment of what love really is due to the sheer will that drives him to do everything for Casca
Griffith
Honesty, yeah, He's pretty sick and twisted villain and Griffith does more than a good job at being said villain, But but there really isn't anything more to that other than that, for a large part of story, He doesn't do much, His impact can be felt throughout the entire story obviously but there's still a lot more you can do with him and that I look forward too
Casca
Now there's two sides to this, The first one is her early on in the story, Now a lot of people who've only seen the original anime (Which I watched and is complete shit compared to the Manga) see her in a light similar to Sakura from the Naruto series which I don't believe is fair, There's a lot of depth to her character that a lot of people don't really see, She's painted as “The strong woman” archetype but in the second half of the story is reduced to this mindless creature with the intelligence of a baby, Now she is possibly the most complex character in the story, Due to how drastically different her character is back and forward, Casca in my opinion only really serves for a plot device in the later half of the story but still has enough of a character in the early part to matter, She also is completely essential to the entire journey that Guts goes on
Puck And Isidro
I'm gonna put them together, Because my thoughts are very similar with them with Puck specifically, I think he is a good example of when I think Berserk finds its footing, He brings the comedy that I think Berserk needs, Isidro definitely extends to that also with the two also paired together, I don't really get the hate that Isidro gets since I enjoy every moment between him and Schierke (I'll get to her in a bit) yeah I guess if you are type of person that wants Berserk to be edgy and nothing but that, Yeah the comedic tone that comes with them together might affect your experience, But I personally believe it's a good contrast with Guts, They have a whole Batman and Robin dynamic where you have the dark and brooding adult with the plucky sidekick, They are both completely necessary for what Berserk is
Farnese And Serpico
Now I don't have much of really anything to say about Serpico, I did want to throw him in here with Farnese because I have a lot to say about her entire development as a character, Now in terms of Antagonist turned ally, I still she stands up as the latest example of how to that right and I do love her development as a character, She started as insufferable, But due to Guts breaking her out of her bratty psycho princess shell, Her caregiver relationship with Casca and even later on her entire relationship with Schierke, Being her pupil and studying magic, Farnese really grew on me, Now with the recent developments in the story (More on that later) I'm not sure what they even plan to do with her, But very interested to see
Schierke
Oh how I fucking love Schierke, She has the best introduction panel I've ever fucking seen in any anime or manga, She was also just a breath of fresh air with everything in Berserk up to that point, What I'll also say is the only and one thing I disliked was her weird crush on Guts, I mean what the actual hell?, There's even one very specific panel I hate between her and Guts that becomes somewhat sexual, It's gross, But she is still a great contrast to what Guts is as a character, I feel like she's probably even more important to the story then even Casca in terms of what she represents, I also enjoy the none stop banter between her and Isidro, They were probably my favorite parts of this entire series, I feel like they're very under appreciated, Her development after joining the group was really well done, She's possibly my favorite thing to come out of this series, It just sickens me some of the things Miura did with her character
(Art)
I feel like maybe next to One Punch Man and Rooster fighter, The panels here are some of the best looking in all of manga that you can read and Kentaro Miura did a fantastic job, He did so much for a great job there's even a debate of even reading past what he personally drew
I'll even comment on that honesty, I feel like the change is very noticeable, Not necessarily bad but noticeable, Backgrounds are still great and silhouette shots are pretty good but faces, They still have a lot of room to improve, Now I don't fault them at all but you like given some time, They will be able to provide a product that will maybe not surpass Kentaro Miura but still be good enough to provide us with what he left us with, He himself wasn't perfect in terms of writing to be fair, So I'll await the future of Berserk and stay positive of what's to come
Rest In Peace Kentaro Miura, Thank you for this story that took me almost a year to read, I've learned so much about life and even writing from your flawed but beautiful work, This is worth reading
Rating 10/10, (I'm so original I know)

One Piece Fan Letter
(Anime)
add
This is possibly the greatest piece of anime filler I've ever seen, Now I'll admit I do have some personal biased in that statement considering One Piece is my favorite story ever told but there is some truth behind that
The animation in this is insanely good, Movie quality even, You can skip everything not canon but still fine an exception in this special This takes place during the Marineford War and the beginning of the Fishman Island arcs, it's basically a look into the world of One Piece, It's honestly terrifying the perspective of the Marines during the war with all the crazy devil fruit eaters, ... This was weird, the story is basically about a girl whos father gives her some strange little statue that has an evil god inside of it, she sleeps and another god gives her a necklace that allows her to use some of the power of his wife by twerking
Yes you read that right twerking, what the actual fuck is this Cuties looking ass shit I'll be honest, I got a few laughs out of it since the comedy isn't the worst thing to exist, But writing is still really weird Rating here is 4/10, Bad just bad, could be worse but there's some laughs I guess but ... After watching this film and thinking about my thoughts on it and how I was going to write this review I've come up with this
What the fuck was up with the jerk off scene, Who the hell green lit that?, I had to pause the movie and sit for a solid 2 minutes just so I could process what I watched The Asuka fight scene with the Eva series was honestly the highlight of this film, Along with animation in general it was just fucking phenomenal The Misato and Shinji kiss was gross, Why just why, Why did they need to put that in the movie My Rating ... When I found out there was a Anime based on the console war between Nintendo and Sega I immediately went and watched it
Honestly the premise is cooler the the actual show itself, the storyline is pretty lacking (But to be fair there's only three episodes) and character wise it's pretty plain with none of the characters really standing out that much just generic NPCs Now I haven't read the Manga but I'll probably read and review that as well just to see if it's any different, There was a lot of potential here but sadly the only mildly interesting thing here was the parodies of Sonic ... Shinseiki Evangelion

add
Just want to specify that as of writing this I haven't seen the movie, This will only be a review of the series itself I plan on reviewing the movie separately
Now Evangelion has been on my radar for years, I've previously stayed away from it because I'm not too much of a mecha guy (It just isn't my cup of tea) My relationship with this series is complicated because I both understand the hype behind it and don't at the same time, Like the animation is great especially for a show that came out in 1995-1996 the detail on stuff like the beer cans and ... I'll be honest wasn't planning on doing a review for this series since everybody online has practically said everything about how great it is, How good the characters are, How great animation is ect, I won't because there's probably nothing unique I can say about it if I'm being honest with myself, But what I will say without giving any spoilers is that I've seen many shows where there's at least one episode I find dull, boring or just bad, There isn't a single bad episode in the 28 here, Frieren (At least this season if they even do a second one) will go down

Peepo Choo

add
Peepo Choo is interesting, It's pretty much a story about Ignorance about how America and Japan sees each other and it also gives perspective on Weeb/Otaku culture
I honestly think the premise here makes for a really interesting Manga, I'm surprised there isn't many other stories like this (At least to my knowledge) The Characters were good, But I do feel like for a handful of them that there was definitely more that could have been done with them This was pretty good, Ended a little short since I'm sure this story had a bit more to say but didn't but my rating here is a pretty solid ... Season 2
I'm writing this as apart of the definitive Gintama review (I made for the previous season so please go check that out for context for this) but I want to clarify some things for context 1. I have only seen the first and Second seasons as of writing this 2. I skipped past all the filler episodes so whether or not you watch the filler you might have a different experience then my own This one will probably be more brief than the last review I made since I honestly have less to say about the second season, Honestly most of the characters are the same ... Honestly I'll keep this review brief but only because there's just 28 chapters to review currently, but that's enough for me to have hope in this Martial Arts Manga, The Plot is irrelevant so if you are looking for an compelling story this might not be for you since it's just a bunch of fight scenes and the characters are fairly interesting and entertaining enough to keep your attention
Some of the panels in here looking absolutely amazing especially the fight scenes and especially some of the Hina panels Once there's more to actually Review I'll make a follow up to this but so far it's great |
