So in short... if you still are pissed off about not having a Rebellion sequel but another season of Magika Record instead, you should give this one a watch, its pretty evident where its inspiration comes from (you all know what I'm talking about). As far of these Madoka wannabe series that've been popping up since the beginning, this is one of the better ones and manages to be it own thing with its own themes.
So, without further to do, and without spoilers, lets cover the bulletpoints.
-Story: Its basically a shonen tournament arc with actresses trying to literally outstate each other. It's pretty simple, not
...
many thirsts and turns; we spend most of the episodes getting to know the characters so all of them have their conflicts and time to shine. The main plot is all centered around a specific play that the girls are going to perform and the way their tournament reflects on that story. Its entertaining and original in its own way, so no complaints there.
-Art: Its pretty decent, the animation is pretty good when it needs to be, the designs and set pieces are interesting. Quite solid overall.
-Sound: Here we have one of the nicest parts of the series. Since the show its centered around a dramatic arts school the least we can expect is a good sound direction and score; thankfully, the show delivers, the music and the performances of the actresses are great. Clearly one of the highlights, they really cared about this aspect.
-Character: They are developed enough to be likeable, most of them have their own dedicated episode for the audience to get to know them. The only problem that I see here is that maybe they are too many, I would have traded a smaller cast of characters for more depth.
-Enjoyment: Its a good time, I'm not gonna lie. There was some legitimate effort put here, its worth the trouble.
So AWARDS TIME:
-Weird mascot.
"We need an intimidating mascot to act as of faustian bargain bringer thingy... Any ideas?"
'Have You watched a giraffe up close?'
"BRILLANT!"
-Totally not Madoka.
Yeah, the inspiration is really clear.
And the final award:
-Reused transformation secuense.
I know its an industry standard... but.. come on, it gets old very quick.
And thats it! :D

So... this is show is basically cute girls doing cute things and kissing from time to time. However, if those cute things are interesting or fun is another story, in short: THIS SHOW IS BORING. I haven't read the manga, and I doubt I ever will.
Yuri fans have it rough when it comes to anime (thank god there are some good mangas out there), that being said, I can see why some people might like this anime so much. If its your first exposure to this kind of genera, it might work as a gateway drug (like cigarettes).
If you have some time to
...
kill while drunk on a Saturday its harmless and mildly entertaining at best, and forgettable at worst; but it's not something I would recommend if you are looking for something more substantial in your cravings for shoujo-ai.
Without further to do, lets check the bulletpoints (spoiler free, as I always do):
-Story: What story? Pretty much nothing happens. The show takes an episodic approach with short stories and sketches that conclude in some cute thing for some cute reason and without consequences. There's nothing wrong with that, if done right, but here its just boring, there are some good ideas here and there but they are few and far between. There is some plot; but its minimal. It doesn't work as a comedy and it doesn't work as a drama, it's toothless and forgettable for the most part.
-Art: Its fair, decent production value for what it is, nothing insulting yet nothing to be amazed at. The production team sure saved a lot of money representing the character interactions with flower symbols bumping into each other rather than with ACTUAL ANIMATION, but well... can't say that I expected more, and it kinda gives the show some personality. In short, cheap, but well optimized for what it is. As far as the character designs and settings, I cant remember anything truly standing out besides the eventual use of manga styled shaders here and there.
-Sound: The voice acting was descent, and the music kinda slipped away at me, absolutely forgettable. Nothing special, nothing insulting. I think you can start seeing the pattern here...
-Character: What characters? I cant remember any of them! You have, emm... lemme think... loli-esk blonde chan witch is kinda childish... her sister; emmmm... protagonist chan, witch is in love with blonde loli chan (for some reason); emmm... their lesbo friends that live together (for some reason)... and those two other girls that just hang there and one of them is named like the main character of Citrus. They are likable enough, but none of them are worth remembering, they are way too safe to deviate from their formulas.
-Enjoyment: Did I just watch this show? Did I enjoy it? I CANT REMEMBER! :D
So... AWARDS TIME!
Not gonna waste any more time with this s**** :P
- POINTLESS:
If you read/watched any yuri/shoujo-ai out there, you already saw this anime. It brings nothing new to the table. Don't watch it, you'll waste your time.
- GATEWAY DRUG:
If you haven't, go ahead and become one of us (?).
- FORGETTABLE:
You'll forget about this as soon as you finished it... unless its your first (no one forgets their first).
And that's pretty much it.
Esa fue mi reviu the sacura trik para el family, y espero que les haya gustado.
Chau.

Sooo... THIS IS COMPLETE MADNESS, and I wont spoil anything to you, you have to read this manga. If you watched the anime and didnt like it pleeeeease give this a second chance; if you somehow liked the anime or though it was ok you'll like this a lot better; and if you dindt watch the anime just DONT DO IT and read the manga instead (TRUST ME ON THIS ONE).
I read this after watching the anime hopping for another instance of that "so bad its good" kinda feel, but I ended up disappointed. The manga turned out being unironically good (very solid in fact).
...
It has some serious flaws of course (witch I'll leave you to discover), but it shows that the people behind it really cared about it, this project is someone's baby. This is the brainchild of some madman, and the moment you pick it up, you are in someone else's world, its complete insanity, and I LOVE IT.
So, without further to do, lets check the bulletpoints!
Story: Its all over the place, there is a lot of it, and its all just crazy. It starts with a simple enough premise, but as the plot unfolds it derails into complete and utter rampaging clusterf***. The weird thing is that all of this madness was planned from the very beginning, its twists and turns where all planned beforehand witch make it kinda of impressive than this kinda of madfest were not made as it went on. You can never guess what's coming up next, it really throw your expectations out of the window sometimes because of the "no one would be crazy enough to go THAT way" factor. Its entertaining and imaginative for sure.
Art: I would say its very solid. During the first chapters there are some inconsistencies in the art style, but as the series picks up its all pretty good and consistent.
Character: Here is where the anime fails and the manga succeeded. They had their time to grow! You get to care for them not out of artificially forced pity derived from the initial shock value, but out of having the time to get to know them, you want to see them succeed. That apply specially to our protagonist, Aya really does grow as a character.
Enjoyment: What can I say here? Its just really entertaining! I found myself chanting at the screen a couple of time at certain moments, just of how invested I was. For me, it was a blast.
AWARDS TIME!
-JOJO REFERENCES!
Of course, I spoted a few. They are always welcome.
-SOMEBODY CARED!
This is a work of insanity and passion. Thats something I can respect and enjoy.
And the final award:
-SOMEONE FIX THIS!
I think that if some the flaws are ironed out, this could be a genera breaking masterpiece! There is a lot of creativity and good elements in here, there is more value to be made.
So well, this is it.

Oh my god! To put it a few words without beating around the bush, ITS BAD, but this a great hate watch and I LOVE it to bits! This is spoiler free, so feel free to go, I wont ruin this experience to you.
I highly recommend it if you want a text book example of how to overdo dark thematic elements and the things that you can do to avoid that in retrospective.
Mahou Shoujo Site is a genuinely passionate attempt to make the darkest possible version of the Dark-Mahou-Shoujo-Faustian-Bargain genera and fails in an spectacular way at doing so. It tried so hard
...
to be the next best thing to Madoka that it felt flat on its face in an almost comedic way. While looking at the reviews for this show I haven't seen so many variations on the word "edgy" since Kayn became a thing in League of Legends.
Its just mesmerizing to watch, I haven't read the manga yet, but I cant wait to do so.
So this is coming from someone without the full picture.
To recap things quickly, this series has some serious problems, and a LOT of missed potential, It could have being actually really good; there are some interesting ideas and concepts here, but the execution lets so much to be desired that the entire show collapses under its own weight.
So! Bulletpoints!
Story: Its actually very good in some aspects. Sadly, since the manga is 16 volumes, you already know that you cant expect the full story. So... be ready for that. It would have been a complete disaster if they tried to pack that up in just 12 episodes. For what it does cover, is quite competent in its own way, but I haven't read the manga yet. Expect mishandling/overdoing of dark themes, it goes way over the top.
Art: The production value is very descent. The animation its fine, the characters are on model, the backgrounds are fine. The big character moments are handled well enough (for what they are), the compositions are fine. Its just fine, nothing to complain here really.
Sound: Its serviceable at best. Its nothing special, but it gets the job done, there are no mayor hits, but no misses either. Its... unremarkable, just fine.
Character: Oh boy, here we go! This is the meat of this ordeal. I cant say anything without spoiling things, so I'll try to keep this short. There are SO many problems. Some of them are irredeemable, some of them have little to no development, some of them are forced in a likable position way past a point of no return, some of their interactions make no sense... They have very interesting setups and character quirks, but the audience have little to no time to get into them. Its really a shame, since there are some some really cool and interesting things and themes to explore on them, but the story and passing didn't deliver. Arguably, the main villain of the arc they cover is the most interesting character. Missed potential is what Im saying here.
Enjoyment: As I said before, this is a bad show, but its blast to watch as a learning experience. I had a great time, I cant wait to read the manga, Im gonna go do it right after I finish this text.
So! AWARDS TIME!
-EDGE:
The valance in between darkness and edginess is a delicate thing. This show is an example how to overdo things.
-LOVE-HATE:
I love and hate this show at the same time, Its terrible, but it haves a personality that won me over. As I said, its a great hate watch. Someone had a vision and now we have to pay for it.
-MISSED POTENTIAL:
I like to think of a world in witch this could a been a masterpiece. It throws a lot of stuff that if explored with depth and respect it deserves could make a great show.
So... that's it! :D

Ok! IF this were a standalone romance anime in a vacuum it would be a fair to mediocre watch. Buuuuuuut it DOES NOT exist in a vacuum, this is an adaptation of a manga, which is a MUST READ for romance fans, an 8 volume beast of it own... made out of gems.
So... With that bias in mind, I came here with high expectations, and I'm going to TRY not to draw to many parallels. With that said, BULLETPOINTS!
Story: You have the summary, but remember that it is "incomplete" in the sense that the anime only covers a part of it. Remember, 8 volumes; no
...
way they can clump all of it in 13 episodes. However, you what is worth, it covers it targets section faithfully, without any major alterations (dont fix what ain't broken). I have to give a 5 because its pretty much half of the story, so... do the math. Beware, you'll want more of this.
Artwork: Its pretty good actually! The animation is consistent, the characters and backgrounds always on model and true to the original style, no complaints here!
The fascinating part is the overall art direction, the lighting and compositions are always spot on with the narrative, everything just "clicks" in the right way. Its just pleasant to watch.
Sound: Here we have something special indeed! The sound direction, is just FANTASTIC. Since they could not exactly "emulate the music" from a manga, they clearly went with their gut and nailed it! Even when the score itself is not particularly catchy, its sets the atmosphere and mood to perfection in every scene. Its clear that a lot of effort went in here.
Character: Pretty much everything that I said about the story plays here too (MATH), but my praise to the seiyus, they did a great job.
Enjoyment: Since they took the more episodic approach of the original instead of try and mash everything together in a mad dash, it's really well passed and keeps a smooth ribbon. Add with the visuals and the music you have a very solid anime.
In conclusion!
AWARDS TIME!
-MOAR, I NEED MOAR!
If you didn't read the manga... I'm so sorry for you.
-MATH!
If it weren't for the fact that there IS a complete version of this story, and that I read it before watching the anime, I'll probably be thrashing my apartment right now. This anime on its own is just not enough, this need a second season, the MATH DEMANDS IT!
-PLEASE, KEEP THIS UP!
Considering the high praise this series got, it wont be surprising that they make a second season. So if they do, it'll be great if they keep this kind of quality.
And that's it!

Ok! This is the first review I write in this site, so, why here and why on THIS THING?
Keep in mind that this is from someone who smoked the 10 volumes of the manga in one sitting. So here we go.
Well, I can go on rampaging about it for a looong time but I'll keep it simple if dont want to read all of this:
The Citrus manga is good, like... really GOOD.
Soooo, in short, go and read THAT instead of wasting your time in this abomination.
While its not perfect by any means, the manga shows by itself that a lot of thought, care and
...
passion went into it.
This... THING (on the other hand) is just a cheaply made cash grab that fails horrendously at... well... pretty much everything!
So, to cover the bullet points! I'll try to keep this as breaf and PG as possible, even when right now Im cursing like a pirate with a broken leg.
Story: You have the summary, its nothing earth-shattering, but having only 12 episodes they cut it at the worst possible time, since the following arcs are the really juicy stuff of this series. They left all the setup, but none of the good stuff.
Art: The biggest offender by far. Cheap. This guys where probably working on a budget, and paid by the hour.
All the beautiful and expressive character shots that deeply showed their emotions in the subtle details, GONE! Replaced mostly with cardboard.
The biggest problem here is the direction, not only did they failed to emulate the mood of some the key scenes in the story, but they sometimes outright butcher entire scenes. One might argue that being "faithful to the source material" is a good thing, but if an adaptation goes coping and pasting poor renditions of the original panels its not being faithful, its just being lazy; those shots and angles worked in the manga, but animation is a different media, if doesn't work that way (specially if the passing of said scenes is as awful as in this case). So yeah, they butchered it, I'll leave it there or I'll by here all night listing every single detail.
Sound: Same as before, but worst. The music is... ok, but the choices in the score don't match the tone of the scenes and sometimes completely miss the mood, it doesn't make any sense. Sound design is none existing or mediocre at best. Also, no heart pounding? I mean, REALLY!? SHAMEFUL.
Character: Since the story didn't go any further, they didn't show their development. And since the subtlety of their emotions got compromised by their poor renditions, they ended up misrepresented, its just sad. The voice actors did what they could, thou.
Enjoyment: Watching the last two episodes was a torture. I was raging from start to finish.
Awards time!
-Soulless:
Not enough people in the payroll gave a damn about this project, and it SHOWS.
-They butchered it:
Cut the story at half and destroyed some good charades in the process, bravo!
And the final award!
-It's time to stop!
Do not make a sequel, you destroyed it enough as it is.
So that it!
Ps: Matsuri best girl.
