Both are mecha animes with non-subtle allegories to the Holocaust involving people hiding behind walled societies to protect themselves from an external threat, when in reality, humanity was the true monster Subsequent parts focus on the world beyond the walled city to expand the world building. The way the story progresses involving the threats are identical.
