For those who don't know, this anime is based on the videogame of the same name "Seiken Densetsu" or Legend of mana" in the west. The game is very charming with its "children story book" aesthetic and non linear story telling. But,the there is tiny detail that should be mentioned is that the game doesn't really explore neither your characters's (considering you are a "silent protagonist") or other character's personalities. That just isn't what the game is. The point is to explore the world and meet its many quirky characters. The world of mana is the "true protagonist" of the game.
And,well,considering all that,how can all
...
this be translated in form of media where interaction (gameplay) cannot be applied?
ANSWER: You can't. You have to make reasonable adaptations to make it work. Effort should be invested in making a good anime BEFORE making a good "translation" of the content from one form of media to another and you have to understand the appeal of both types of media. This anime......doesn't do that.
It feels way too "safe" for its own good. Aspects of the game where "translated"almost in a "literal" way and this is not a good thing for a media that depends on character depht for quality. The characters 's personalities are just as non-existent as they are in the game making the interactions feel like a videogame tutorial.
No attempt was made to replace the world exploration aspect with anything else. In an attmpt to make an story that was not suposed to linear,welll......linear,they killed one of the aspects that makes the universe feel alive.
But not everything is bad. This anime is OBSESIVELLY faithfull to the game's art style. Clothes, scenarios, etc. Everything is there. Maybe this is a subproduct of this anime's "copy and paste" philosphy.
The game also covers relativelly well the arc they choose to adapt, that is the jumi arc,one of the three main arcs of the game. So if you are worried that this arc will some way feel "incomplete",don't worry, the anime tells the arc's story from beggining to end with all the game's events to an almost obsessive level.
With that in mind, lets weight the pros and cons:
-PROS
-Beautiful animation
-Faithfullto the game general appearence
-It actually does what it suposed to do,tell the jumi story arc that is.
CONS:
-Souless
-Criminally average
-Character's personalities are non-existent
-Forgetable
If anyone has interest in watching, iwould recomend this anime if you already played the game and like to know how they would adapt the game. For anyone else,i recommend playing the game. The game is the only thing that justifies this anime's existence. Wiithout the game, this anime is just a very uninspired nostalgia cash grab.
PS:This anime was directed by the same guy who directed shield hero season 2. Yeah,if you watched that you know what i am talking about..........

There is not much to look into it,it's basically a little manga about lucoa and shouta's daily shenanigans. If you like the characters and feel like they do not get enough spotlight in the original manga, well, here is something to quench your thirst.
Let me tell you something, this manga is made to be lewd and the author is not afraid to show it. Lucoa constantly gets in her" birthday suit",sometimes even with a poor excuse for a "hair hiding niples" clcihe, like the author is openly mocking it.
If you though lucoa was just a "light tease" in the original manga,in this one she goes FULL.PEDO. STRAIGHT UP HORNY OLD
...
MAN MODE THAT WOULD PUT JIRAYA AND ROSHI TO SHAME.
She absolutelly doesnt hide she wants shouta's "magic wand" inside quer "aztec ruins"and the author even uses "pseudo censored" hentai imagery to represent that.
And even poor shouta isn't saved from the author s weird fetishes, even existing scenes with crossdressing and genderbending involving him.
Anyway, this manga looks like it was madeout of spite. Like the author wasn't permited to put all the hornyness he wanted in the original manga and created this one as an "exhaust pipe".
Now for the bad things....
Pretty much every chapter follows a pattern: Shouta wants to do something, lucoa tries to be involved in it,shouta explains what he is doing, she then twsts what he says and does something perverted, shouta pushes her away and tells her to keep away, she doesn't listen and tries do butt in,random shenanigans ensues and then everything works out in the end.
The main reason to read this spin off is to see how horny lucoa can get,but if you read a lot of chapters in one sitting,it becomes really repetitive.
Anyway, read it if you want a "horny no brainer" and like the characters, but if you want anything else, even better quality horny content, search somewhere else.

First of all,i admit that this little review will be teeny tiny bit biased considering i am not really a fan of the way makoto shikai makes his movies. Didn't like in kimi no na wa,didn't like it here, which doesnt mean that i will automatically HATE the movie or anything, but, yeah, shikai s style kinda grins my gears a little.
With that of the way, here goes..
Well, this movie is basically about growing up and the dangers of living in a past that doesn't exist anymore. An in a time where nostalgia is such a big thing like nowdays the message is still relevant. The story is about two childhood friends, takaki
...
and akari that become really atached to each other because of their similarities (both coming from the countryside, reading, etc). The movie suggests that were always together until akari had to transfered to another school in a far away city. And that is how the story goes about how two good firends become farther and farther apart because of circunstances out of their control and eventually becoming just a memory of the past.
The movie has that "makoto shikai" feel, even before that was something particularly recognizable,a lot of focus in beautifully drawn imagery and scenario and a beatifull soundtrack.
All fine and dandy, but in my opinion, the movie (and a lot of shikai's other works) expend way too much time in the previously mentioned beautyfull imagery,to the point where we,as watchers, are thirsting for more details and all we see is a beautyfull scenario akin to a painting, The feeling something like "ok,we get it,you can draw, now please, tell the story!".
Other thing that not everyone might enjoy is how drama and sadness is forced in EVERY.SINGLE.FRAME.Sometimes in a very exagerated way,not letting the watcher breath,.
The ending is up to interpretation to say the least. Its definitelly more emotionally heavy when you use your imagination to create your own epoligue, but again,i would just prefer to know the actual thing.
And ,that's pretty much it.
With that of the way,now a little personal rant if i am permmited.
Despite my criticism, this movies touches me in a personal level. We all have a past,we all have that one thing we think we should have said or that one thing we think we should have done in that one time that woudl make "all the difference in the world".Or even start thinking how happy and carefree you were when you played with that one friend all afternoon.. Its natural to think that, even more if you are not in a particular place you wish to be.But,when you start "refusing" to go forward, these thoughs become something like holding burning iron. The more you hold to it,the more it hurts you and you might become sick. I talk from experience. I am 27 years old and just now i am learning to deal with these kind of thoughs that i had since i was 14 and changed schools leaving most of my friends behind.
Considering that,i think takaki is a sick person. He probably developed an earlier stage of depression from loneliness after akari left and it just kept growing until he,as an adult, stopped caring about most things. This can happen very easily if you have the feeling that the one thing you want in this life is out of your reach. He also probably tortures himself for 'what if things were different?" thoughs and feels like he has no control over his fate.
The problem begins when you circle your life around ONE SINGLE THING,like a house supported by one single pillar. If that thing is gone, everything goes down. The movie never suggests that takaki had any hobbies or other interests that did not involved akari. The movie tries to suggest that takaki loved akari. That is not love. Love doesnt do that to you. That is obsession. Obsession with a "context" a memory,a "personal interpretation" of something that might or might not have existed,a trick of smoke and mirrors in which takaki is a prisioner of.
In truth,as soon as takaki started wearing his "big boy pants" he should have took control of his own life and stopped 'going with the flow". Maybe he would have found akari again if he invested actual, active effort to find her instead of letting his sadness get the best out of him. Again,he abandoned his present and future for a past that didn't existe anymore EVEN if the present and future are contributing for him to recover what he wants so much, even if its just to talk one last time and finally get closure .By story 2,takaki had already admited defeat, just letting that feeling eat him up and rot his heart away.
Yeah yeah,he got his "closure" at the end (theoretically) but it was still way too painful and not by his own effort.
Anyway, end of rant here, this s#it got way bigger than i imagined, My point is,donn't let old feelings rot away inside you. Don't "go with the flow",Make active effort to be where you want to be and protect what you value and let go of things that you think were "unique' and "important" but really weren't, Like takaki and akari's love in childhood was basically just teenage loneliness and hormones.
Anyway, thank you for your patiencie if you read all the way trough, have a nice day.
PS: Realistically speaking, with the advent of social media and smartphones (the movie was released in 2007) takaki would probably find akari quite easily nowdays and probably called her to go out for a beer or something haha

Chinese martial arts in manga are normally very misrepresented. Most of the times, the "kung fu fighter" is just some bruce lee imitator, some big boobed chun-li wannabe or some cheap dragonball z rip off.
This manga is not only the complete opposite of this but it might THE absolute best chinese martial arts themed martial arts made
The author, which was a bajiquan practioner in real life, clearly made this manga with love and care because the detail this manga goes into is fantastic.
It details techniques and concepts in rich details, presents us with less know chinese comunities like the HUI (aka chinese muslims),less known kung fu styles like Xinyiliuhequan. and
...
even some semi-exoterical concepts like chi and martial phtlosophy.
The main character kenji is little bland, but that is ok because, even if his name is in the cover, the true protagonist here is the chinese marrtial arts culture and we are only seeing through his eyes.
This manga is an absolute must read for any lover of chinese martial arts like me.

Its a 5 minute anime and one should not expect too much. But,oh well...
I remember a long time ago when i was excited for the first season to be released considering there was not too many(or better said, any at all)horror anime and looked at least creative. The first season had some legitimally scary episodes and the third season had an awesome little plot twist.
But truly scary episodes are becoming more scarce with each passing season. Their scare tactic is basically putting "normal people" in scary situations by dumb chance and having them suffer the consequences of their bad luck. All fine and dandy, but the show depends
...
too much on the "you can't see, therefore its scary" cliche,to a point where they lose some pretty good chances to show some scary imagery just so they can still keep this cliche. Pretty much every story goes more or less like this....
"NARRATOR: Our story starts in the girls bathromm in a normal highschool
GIRL A: Hey,have you heard that legend?
GIRL B: What legend?
GIRL A: The legend of the anus pincher. If you take a shit in the third stall during a full moon and wipe your ass 3 times, the anus pincher will come out of the toiled and pinch your anus.
GIRL B:That's stupid.
NARRATOR: At afternoon,after class..
GIRL A: Hey,before you go home, can you help me tp clean our club's meeting room?
GIRL B: Ok
*Some time later, camera closes on the sky,its a full moon*
GIRL A: *yawns* its getting late, let's go home
GIRL B: Yeah
GIRL A: *stomach growling* Oh shit,i knew it i shouldn't have eaten that last onigiri. Can you go to the bathroom with me?
GIRL B: Why can't you go by yourself?
GIRL A: Because we're girls.
GIRL B:....ok.
NARRATOR: In the bathroom..
GIRL A:HNNNNNNNG *extremelly violent shitting noises*
GIRL B:You finished?
GIRL A: *sigh* i guess so....i am just gonna wipe my ass and we can go.
GIRL B: Ok.
*some time later*
GIRL B: hey,why you taking so long?
GIRL B:...............*stomach growls*
GIRL B: Wow,she was right,we SHOULDN'T have eaten that last onigiri.
*Girl enters bathroom and provokes the apocalipshit*
GIRL B: Ok,i am finished.....well,time to wipe
*GIRL A comes busting trough the door*
GIRL A: DON'T WIPE A THIRD TIME,THIS IS THE THIRD STALL,THIS IS WHERE I TOOK A SHIT!!,MY ANUS GOT PINCHED!!!!!!
GIRL B: What!?
*camera closes on the toiled"
*Violent anus pinching noises start to get louder*
*closes on girls faces*
BOTH GIRLS: H-H-H-HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!
*screen closes*
NARRATOR:O-SHI-MAI~~

For the ones that don't know, the mange is supossed to be a sequel for the ps1 game of the same name, but its events became "non-canon" because of the events the shadow hearts trilogy for the ps2.
The manga itself is a nice little additiion to the franchise on general,a nice well-made story, the enviroment fits well with kouldelka/shadow hearts universe and really looks like something it would happen after the end of the game.
The manga fails in some aspect though and one is its art.Ok,that was little harsh,it doesn't really "fail",just doesn't represent the franchise. The art is very "cute" looking and very "cartoony",like your
...
normal everyday shounen. The oroginal game had "realistic" art and the scenary was considerably gruesome, with boddies pilled in the floor, blood splats and such and showed some rather "shocking" moments like a suicide scene with a shotgun. This manga doesn't even come close of showing this imagery and in fact is quite "wholesome".

Shamo was a lot of 'firsts" for me: First manga i read all the way trough, first "politically incorrect" manga i ever read, first "trully evil" protagonist i ever saw (light yagami doesn't count,he tought he was making "justice'). Seeing ryu's "dark evolution",from a killer in juvenile prison to a violent thug and eventually a professional MMA fighter was great. But,do a favor to yourself and stop reading when the sugawara arc ends. Anything beyond that can just be called a "clusterfu#k of ideas with no relation to each other".
Aparently the people responsible for the manga were passing trough some juridical tribulation regarding copyright ownership and
...
it definitelly shows. The plot completelly loses its track after sugawara saga, even to the point of shoving KI powers and kung fu mysticism that is never mentioned again.
The last arc is what can only be called "michael bay-ish".Car chases, explosions and whatnot....but in the end,the antagonists were way too silly and completelly unrelated for this manga and the single atempt to give them a single remnant of 'depht"was cut short by its sudden and unsatisfactory ending.
To this day i search for news about manga regarding a possible return for a proper ending to be made. But,as it is,its like delicious cake filled with s#it.Just stick with top of the cake, the frosty, the upper layers, etc. Don't go all the way to find the shit.
