While Kuroshitsuji is VERY different compared to D.Gray-man in terms of story, art style, characters, length, the environments and tone are very similar. The setting is the exact same, and the comedy is pretty similar in both. While D.Gray-man and Kuroshitsuji aren’t a perfect recommendation, they do have some similarities that are worth sharing, and watch both as well!

D.Gray-man and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood have quite a bit of differences, but there’s some things in common. The art style is similar between the two. Both anime have a dark story mixed in with lighthearted comedy (much more so in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood). The main protagonists, Edward Elric and Allen Walker, both have a cursed arm as well. Both are really good and worth checking out.

While not the exact same, there are some similarities between Chrno Crusade and D.Gray-man. Both have a similar dark atmosphere that is lightened up with some comedy, and both anime have religious undertones and a similar art style as well. Not to mention that Chrono and Allen Walker have similar kind personalities as well! Both are worth watching, but Chrono Crusade is a bit better.

Chrno Crusade and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood both revolve around two blonde siblings trying to make everything right again. The story in both are dark, but have humor to lighten things up. Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage
add

Hellsing Ultimate and Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage are both over the top and very violent seinen anime. Both anime, more so Hellsing than Black Lagoon, don’t hold back on the violence, and are pretty dark. Both were animated by Madhouse as well, and have a similar art style. Watch S1 of Black Lagoon first, and this recommendation also applies to Roberta’s Blood Trail.

D.Gray-man
add

Fighting against the supernatural is the main theme of both Hellsing Ultimate and D.Gray-man. Both have a similar dark atmosphere, and the setting is pretty similar. In Hellsing Ultimate, Alucard fights against vampires and ghouls, while in D.Gray-man, Allen Walker fights against the akuma. Both also have some humor as well to lighten the mood. Hellsing Ultimate is a seinen, unlike D.Gray-man (which is a shounen), and as a result, is much darker and way more violent, so keep that in mind. Both anime are worth watching, so check them out!

Jujutsu Kaisen
add

The main protagonists in D.Gray-man and Jujutsu Kaisen (TV) are cursed, with Allen from D.Gray-man having a messed up arm and Yuji from Jujutsu Kaisen (TV) having a demon inside him. Both anime have a darker tone than most battle shounen anime, and both involve exorcists and demons, with D.Gray-man having Akuma and Jujutsu Kaisen (TV) having Curses. Both are worth a watch for sure.

Bungou Stray Dogs
add

Black Cat and Bungou Stray Dogs don't have the most similar story. In fact, the storylines are very different. But the tone, atmosphere and some of the characters are pretty similar. Both manga have a mix of serious and funny moments (Black Cat has a bit more comedy compared to Bungou Stray Dogs, but this is probably due to the former being a shounen and the latter being a seinen), and the dynamic between Train and Sven is very similar to the dynamic between Dazai and Kunikida, except Train is a lot less suicidal. While both are different, there are still some similarities between the two, and I believe that fans of one will also like the other!

Black Lagoon is very similar to Jormungand. Aside from them both having a similar episode set-up, they are both realistic seinen anime while still being over the top (Jormungand is less over the top than Black Lagoon) with a ton of gunfights. The art style and some characters are very similar as well. If you want a dark and serous anime with guns, watch these two anime!
