I'm convinced that Trigger has some of the most talented artists in the industry and some of the worst writers. Or pushiest executives. The show is gorgeous, vivid, and genuinely a breath of fresh air compared to some of the art styles of the modern era. The writing, on the other hand, really needs to have some more room to explore what it is its even trying to say. There is such a non committal game being played with the messaging and themes that it makes me believe an original story was had, and was great, but a room full of studio execs pulled it

The good: it was really pretty. Now to the rest of the review. A troubled middle schooler finally gets called out for his shit and then slumps into a depression once he realizes it. MC spends the whole movie abusing other people and then ignoring the problems created by it until the final 10 minutes, leaving a glaring void of something like 100 minutes where content just ceases to exist. Some very stunning art sets, and then some very abysmal panning shots that were made of nothing but CG. I really wish they went all out throughout the whole thing because it's very clear that the art team could do something special. The first 20 minutes were spent holding your hand, even though you were left sitting there rolling your eyes as it over explained. Not to mention the countless repetative scenes of a dude being put into a girls body to then feel around that was entirely unenecassary.
This was a tough film, it has a lot of potential to be something a lot ...

The story of a boy who wanted to grow up surfing like his idol, who then became a man and went across the world for his family.
From the very beginning the story puts you into a sense of episodic learning, much the same way as someone growing up would experience. It does it in such a way that you can tag right along as Renton slowly finds himself in the world around him. That's not to say however, that the growing is limited to just the protagonist. The most frustrating part of this show is that it could have actually had a meaning. Instead, the only real desire it brought upon watching, was a reinforced want to buy a French press. From the poorly executed themes of equality, to the absolutely abysmal character progression. You can tell this show was slapped together with too much from the source material, and it never actually did anything with it. Very special show. The way the acts are crafted to grow along the spirit of Simon is impeccable. Slowly you see a man grasp more and more until his hands are full of everything humanity needs. From the way character development is handled, right down to overall arching themes of the spirit of humanity, this show really knows how to nail it. As if that wasn't enough, the action is breath taking. Mix that in with a score that manages to rope together the themes within it and you have something truly amazing. Never have I cried so hard during two kickass robots facing off.

A very visually appealing short dealing with concepts that perhaps would be better explored in a longer format. Immediately upon the opening you are treated to a carefully crafted world of grunge and despair that is eye candy. Advertisements and themese of consumerism pop, while the decaying spirits of the working class fade into the background. The overall message of the film was brilliant, dealing with societal developement and different opportunities that could be explored.
