This is my first-ever review, based upon all the episodes I have watched
until now.... I will try to keep this as much spoiler- free as possible.
I also hope to clear out any misconceptions regarding this show,
and also, maybe give an idea to all those who are thinking of giving it
a try...
First, let me start right out by saying that You should DEFINITELY CHECK
THIS OUT, if Slice Of Life and Fantasy animes (with moderate-level
action) are your thing...
This is NOT the anime for hardcore action/adventure based anime fans, who
...
expect every episode to be full of adrenaline-filled action scenes...
Now, let's get into the technicalities of this anime :-
STORY :-
---------
I won't be copy-pasting the story here, since I am sure that
you would have already read about it in the 'synopsis' section.
Just like any other slice of life-themed anime, the essence of this one
is no different - The protagonist goes through a series of changes,
which changes his/her life (a.k.a "gives meaning to his/her life")
What sets it apart from other animes of the same genre, is the fact that,
it depicts the events of TWO characters.... Unlike other animes, where
the main focus is always on the MC, this anime has its focus on
two protagonists (i.e., Chise AND Elias), who simultaneously evolve
throughout the series, discovering new aspects of human life. This is
surprising, considering that the synopsis (as well as the title -
'Bride Of Magus') implies that this anime is all about Chise....
The story gradually unfolds itself, and although the series may seem
episodic, minor elements from each episode act as 'beads', which when
stitched together, would provide the complete story of the MCs...
I felt JOY while watching this anime... barring some which have
"the feels", almost every episode has pure aesthetics, which will
leave you with a wide-smile, or in some cases, make you cry the
'tears of joy'... It's so good that, I found myself going crazy over
when the next episode would be released.
Let me also state the fact right here, that please remove any thoughts
of 'dirty', 'creepy', 'promotes pedophilia', 'sexual harassment', etc.
from your mind before watching it... the reason I say this, is because
I have seen people thrashing this anime, labelling it as
'promoting pedophilia', 'creepy' and what-not, and let me tell you
one thing...please do not listen to such people...
These are the same people, who voted GTO to rank 37, knowing very well
that it promotes pedophilia (hell, even it's description reeks of
pedophilia), but start trash talking about this anime, even when
there is not a single thing in this anime that promotes such
behavior.
All in all.... the story is very good, and I found it to be quite appealing.
P.S. This series has a prequel/OVA called 'Mahoutsukai No Yome : Hoshi Matsu
Hito (The Ancient Magus Bride : those Awaiting A Star). If you haven't
watched it already, I would highly recommend watching it AFTER you
have finished watching episode 13 of the TV series.
ART/ANIMATION :-
-------
Nothing special here....
This anime has pretty similar animation style style to Studio Ghibli...
It isn't 'heavenly' or 'god-like' as you would find in some animes
(e.g. God Eater by Ufotable studios) nor is it particularly jaw-dropping
(as in Violet Evergarden by Kyoto Animation)... but it does have it's own
charm...
It provides an accurate description of the 'form' of magic
all in all, it's very good and eye-soothing...
MUSIC :-
--------
This is the USP of this show.... People may disagree with the show, but
it is very hard to put down the music...
Including the OP and ED, this anime has one of the most memorable soundtracks
... the kind that just makes you close your eyes and immerse yourself in its
magical world.
Overall Rating :- 10/10
-----------------------
Mahoutsukai No Yome is a masterpiece, which encompasses multiple emotions
and spreads them out in a world of magic and sorcery....
It is one of the best animes, if not the best....
Highly recommended to watch.
