Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind (or Le Bizzarre Avventure di GioGio: Vento Aureo if you are feeling fancy) is the 5th entry in the genius work of Horohiko Araki, as we continue to follow the story of the Joestar family through it's next descendant, Giorno Giovanna. It is no mistery that David Productions took this amazing piece of art and enhanced the (Gold) experience even further with this adaptation. The manga counterpart might have left the fanbase divided, but the anime will be sure to please both sides of the fanbase, anime-only and manga-readers.
Story: 10/10
The story of Golden Wind is very simplistic when compared to
...
the other parts of the series. But as we all know, what matters is the not the concept, but the way it is exectuted in the grand scheme of things. Giorno Giovanna is a young man who dreams of being a Gang-Star, and on his way, meets Bruno Bucciarati, a member of the Passione Gang. Giorno intends to enter the gang and defeat the Boss, so he can create an actually good corporation. Now Giorno, and the rest of the members of Passione, must find the Boss, discover his identity and defeat him.
Again, a simple concept, but with a very spectacular execution. This is without a doubt the best the series has to offer when it comes to pure tension. During the entire journey, you never know what to expect from the enemies the gang will have to defeat, or even from the gang itself. The entire anime just keeps you at the edge of your seat, and never fails to make you wonder if Giorno will actually pull it off or not.
Art: 10/10
The original manga of Araki already contains some fantastic art, but DP takes these shots and increase then even further. The sudden color-changing to make a certain emotion stand out, the detailed character art, the fluid movwment of the fights... it truly is mesmerizing to look at, making every battle feel alive and intense.
Sound: 10/10
Another aspect in which the series never disappoints, the sound design. Every single time a character does an important action, the sounds played always makes me eargasm with joy. Okay... make that was an exaggeration, but the sounds feel very satisfying to hear, specially the punching. The soundtrack is also phenomenal, the music that plays when something is about to go down will be stuck in your head for a long time, specially I'll Vento d'Oro and Intercursion. And the openings, what can I say? They are all a banger to listen to, with breathtaking visuals to mix with. The endings are also very refreshing songs, which fits after the intensity that happens in every episode. It also helps that these songs were picked by none other than the creator Araki himself.
Characters: 10/10
In my honest opinion, Golden Wind has the second best set of characters from the series, losing only to Stardust Crusaders. All of the members of the Gang are extremely memorable and funny characters in a way that just never fails to make me smile. Giorno is the slick, calm and collective character, Bruno is a serious, do-or-die, and leader type or character, Mista is the laid back badass with a heart of gold, and many others. The villains are also fantastic, they might be one of the only group of anime villains where I was able to remember the name of every single one of them, their abilities, and their quirky attitudes, even if they were simple.
Enjoyment: 10/10
Like I said before, the series never fails to keep you at the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next and how the story will develop. It also makes you feel pain from laughing so hard, but without breaking the pace if it happens in a serious moment. And when the series decides to get emotional, oooooooh boy, it does not hold back, so prepare your tissues when watching this.
Overall: 10/10
There's not much to say, really. If you enjoyed the previous parts, this will be no different. It has the same quirky characters, same engaging plot, same epic battles... all kicked up a notch, to make you feel like you are watching another part but still managing to feel unique. So sit back and enjoy this (Gold) experience.
