Shiki

Both are horror, supernatural and psychological thriller series that center around solving the mysterious deaths that keep happening in their small towns in the countryside. Hinamizawa and Sotoba, the settings of each, are quite similar. The general tone of the two is comparable as well since they share so many genres, though Higurashi takes place over multiple seasons while Shiki is just one.

Besides airing close together and both having beautiful animation, they're also sci-fi/fantasy action series set in the future and music plays a major role in their stories.

Akatsuki no Yona
add

Both are the stories of red headed female leaders surviving and adapting to their surroundings when thrown into what is essentially a new world for both of them. Their settings are both medieval as well. The biggest difference is that Akatsuki no Yona has more comedic moments in it.

Boku no Hero Academia
add

Both are supernatural/superpower action shounen series with school settings and teenage casts. Overall they have a very similar feel to each other in terms of tone, characters and story (they are different, of course, but they give the same kind of vibes if that makes sense). The other big thing that makes these similar is the art style and animation, which is helped by the fact that they were made by Bones, so the production and execution is similar. You may like one more than the other, but due to their similarities, if you liked one you may like the other too.

Tetsuwan Birdy Decode

Both are sci-fi series with a male and female duo that take place (besides some of Birdy season 2) in a town with a larger intergalactic backdrop causing many of the events in the shows to occur. The duos consist of a normal teenage boy and a female, nonhuman warrior whose origins come from that intergalactic background (there is also some interesting worldbuilding with the settings in both that makes them unique as well as similar). Mahoro and Birdy are the most similar thing between these two, as they both have important mysteries in their pasts, they often give an air of being friendly and outgoing (and sometimes just like a normal teenage girl), but when things get serious they don't hesitate to channel their 'War God' modes, their fight scenes reminded me of each other and overall they give me very similar vibes in terms of their characters. Both also balance comedy, action, and romance, with varying amounts of each throughout the stories as the characters, arcs and tones develop and change. All in all, they have similar settings, their genres and tones compliment each other, and the main duo is very similar (especially Birdy and Mahoro in terms of personality, attributes and vibes), so if you liked one you may like the other.

Ga-Rei: Zero
add

I binge watched all of Ga-Rei: Zero in a single day, and while I was watching I thought about how much it has in common with the movie series The Garden of Sinners, from the supernatural elements evoking mystery and horror, and how these affect the people dealing with them. Furthermore, both of the series' sets of protagonists handle these supernatural cases in a criminal justice sort of way as their jobs. While I felt Kyoukai handled some of the philosophical elements with more depth, due in part to the longer runtime, I loved both and would highly recommend them!

Samurai Champloo
add

Besides having the same director, both shows have direct parallels and contrasts in terms of characters, themes, story, tone, music and visuals. While Cowboy Bebop offers a more philosophical approach in its overall theme, Champloo takes a more laid back, nostalgic mood that actually made it more enjoyable for me than the former. Both shows are in my top 6 favorite anime of all time, and I'd highly suggest giving them a shot. There are other shows that capture a similar sense of what Bebop great, but Champloo managed to do it perfectly. See ya space samurai...

Black Lagoon
add

While the tone isn't exactly the same, the team dynamic is very similar to that of the Bebop crew. A group of outlaws manage to get by by working together even though they're all lonely, they all have vague pasts that get explored later, and they appear to be a certain way due to differing reasons. There's also the fact that character parallels can be drawn between the main 3 characters of each, which are evident from the first episode of Lagoon alone. I've enjoyed it so far, so I'd definitely recommend checking it out to see if you like it.
