Despite one being a cyberpunk themed manga and the other a classic super robot mecha series, they have surprisingly similar mechanical designs, which results in a fairly similar visual feeling. They are also action packed sci-fi that become more polished and focused as both series goes on.

Getter Robo Go

These two works present themselves as typical shounen manga, and they manage to be good at it, but what makes them similar for me is the fact that, despite both being quite inventive and having a 'not so grounded' style (even considering the rest of their respective series), they max this aspect up as the manga goes on to the point of reaching a ridiculously insane level. Even though reading the original Getter Robo from 70s is good for context, I think that Go can stand on it's own as most important things are explained there.

Both shows were influenced by pretty much the same works from the 70s and 80s (and Kill la Kill was most certainly influenced by Honoo no Tenkousei too).

Both works perfectly apply the modern shounen teachings, especially with the friendship theme and the diverse casts and creative powers. Kongou Banchou is also a fine homage to classic 80's shounen, which only gives you more reasons to read it if you like battle shounen in general. READ IT NOW!

Both shows presents dark, sometimes """offensive""" humor in a minimalistic, but memorable art style. Also, both shows have TONS of references to pop culture.
