I must say, the only problem I had was the Title.
Yeah, I know: "A Rose by any other name something something Darkside"
But there is a borderline,
and I think Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui! vaporized that wall while reaching 88 MPH
Beyond that, I have nothing but good things.
If you read my Gunnm Manga Review, you'd know I said that Galley was my Wiafu without challenge for a good fifteen years.
...
Well, Tomoko Kuroki has shaken my faith. Tomoko, my maybe Waifu, little sister, daughter...it's a confusing relationship.
I am sure I'm not alone in saying that I would have been her friend, if this took place in 2003, with late 90s Nostalgia and aesthetics,
flip phones, Emo/Scene/Punk movement and Linkin Park, MySpace, Bush Era/Post 911, N64/Dreamcast, yada yada. Quite a time be a Teen in that Era.
Tomoko talking to strangers is the most relatable and cutest thing to hear. She is just too damned adorable.
In many ways she was like me back then, though not everything. She is a lot more determined to my feeling fine being in the corner, for one thing.
Funny enough, she might ware the pants in the relationship, until she has one of her internal feakout moments.
This show gets the "Life is both Tragic and Hilarious" down to a T. For instance, her losing her marbles over her missing umbrella was nothing
but gold, because I've been there.
I have a feeling I am repeating the samething other reviewers have said. Which is obvious. Tomoko is us, for all the good and bad that entails.
So yeah, on my favorites list, definatly going to rewatch it, get the BluRay/4k, and the Manga.
Season Two will be a long time coming. If it ever comes. But we have a Season and a Manga so thats good enough for me.
Hope you got something out of this half ass review.
Fare well.

I have not read any reviews on this yet but I bet this is going to be one of those you love it or hate it series.
The story is nothing new, but when was a story told that was ever new? The originality of your story or anyone's is not how new the story is, but how it is told.
What Serial Experiments Lain offers has been done before and since. But how it shows it cannot be replicated.
The Story is nothing new, but how its told, its told very well.
The Art and Sound is God damn impressive.
Questions to the fans: How many
...
of you love the Opening Theme? *Raises hand*
Q 2: How many of you don't skip the opening credits? *Raises Hand*
Q 3: How many of you own the album the song its on and became a fan of that band? *Raises Hand*
Maybe its just me, but I love the Episode Title Cards. I say it maybe just me, because I don't know anyone's opinion on any show that includes how awesome the Ep Title Cards are.
Because of course, right, they are Ep Title Cards, they are not meant to be marveled at.
But the people behind the sound and art design go way beyond to even make the Title Cards look and sound amazing.
Maybe I just need to get out more but man, I'm gushing at Title Cards. Ok I'm done talking about them, I swear.
I can see the pacing and the tone of Serial Experiments Lain being a central problem for those that felt cold after a few Episodes.
But boring, like fun, is subjective. Blade Runner has a similar flow, but like BR, it can be an annoyance. But I never got that from BR and I never got that from Lain as well.
I have a highly empressionistic and lateral mind, so while I love story and characters as one would love and define a masturfuly done cake, I can read and gush indepth
visuals and sounds even more.
The Setting, I'll admit, is pretty darn cool, combining Sci Fi with Supernatral has been done but I just love how its presented here.
I will definatly get a Blu Ray or 4K of this. Its on my favorites list and definatly on the repeated viweing list as I'm sure of a show of this calibur will have things
I didn't discover the first time around.
I guess you would not call this a complete review. But as long as someone can connect with at least one thing I presented, then thats enough for me.
Thank you for reading, and good day.

Finished a long time ago.
First read and completed all 9 Vol at 2005 or 06,
then watched the OVA, saw the movie on 2019 (its was good, could be better),
and it made me reread all 9 vol again.
I can't say I'm a mega fan, since I have not read The Last Order yet.
I know, it's a problem, I'll fix it.
...
I do consider Galley (Alita) my first Waifu.
And so far she has no competition with me, yet.
It's an 8 out of 10 on my list, and on my Favorites list.
If Kung Fu, Blade Masters, Gunslingers and Cyborgs in a Madmax setting tickles your tities, then put the pedal to the metal.

I am sorry, but even breaking my own rule by watching five instead of the three rule
(because the second episode started a three part story arch),
I just couldn't get into it.
Settings and themes were the best things.
The camera movement and the editing was pretty good
...
It was pretty to look at, at times.
But I could not get into the characters for the most part, besides the lost school girl.
Interesting world and setting.
But without engaging characters it gets dull.
In fact, it was so disengaging that my eyes have been darting from the screen to at my phone and back.
It's A damn shame to.

Story time: Vampire Princess Miyu is not present on Crunchyroll, so I went to RetroCrush which only had the English dub.
Gave the first Ep a chance and the English voice actors were so distracting I could not focus.
Characterization always come first with me, if I don't like the characters then it kills the experience, I don't care how great everything else is.
Next stop was Waifu, no dice.
Then came GoGoAnime and eureka.
Its amazing what proper acting and dialog can do.
...
Had I not found the original English subed, by the end of the first Ep I would have placed this in the Dropped so fast.
Seriously, listen to this
https://www.retrocrush.tv/.../vam.../003167v-unearthly-kyoto
Skip to 5:30
Now I know the context of what's going on in that scene.
Even so, I broke out laughing. At that point, I was taken out of the experience.
And Miyus English Actress sounds so fucking lifeless.
Yeah, she is Immortal, and all the bagged that comes with it, I know.
And yet we have Dr. Manhatten, and like all the other characters in Watchmen, I loved him immediately.
Anyway, what I'm saying is, DO NOT WATCH THE ENGLISH DUB, ITS TRANSPARENTLY PATHETIC AND A WASTE OF TIME
The E Subed of Princess Miyu is the difference between night and day.
Get it, Night and Day, Vampires.
I wish I had better jokes.
The characters are engaging, good plot with good themes, interesting setting and definitely is fun.
If that is your type of fun.
Maybe it is.
Give it a taste.

What could I say, Dragon Ball Z popped the cherry, and brings emotional and blissful moments from my childhood. Your first taste will always be the best.
So why a rating of 6 you my ask?
To put it simply, I have grown older, and you wish for more quality and layers in your Cakes.
For all its fun, and Dragon Ball Z delivers, its lacks in most areas.
The Stories, Settings, Lore and rules leave much to be desired.
Young Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, F Trunks, Freiza, Fat Buu, Gotenks and Mr Satan are the only Characters that I could love and love to hate, and
...
they can provide some good humor.
Everyone else just feels one note, flat or completely forgotten.
And I will never forgive what they did to Gohan in the Buu Saga.
Look at how they massacred my boy.
Its Dumb Fun, but fun nonetheless.
Give a crack at it.
