I like to think of myself as a comedy fan, being a fan of series like Milky Holmes, Nichijou and Arakawa Under the Bridge. I had heard a lot about Ichizon and had seen a few Youtube clips, and it looked like decent comedy. On the recommendation of a few trusted recommendations, I decided to take the plunge and was quite surprised at how absolutely hilarious this series is.

I normally am a fan of the skit-based slapstick style comedy like in Arakawa, Nichijou and the recent Daily Lives of High School Boys, so Ichizon's slice of life-style presentation was a nice change of pace from ... my usual favorites. For a comedy, it actually does a really good job at developing the characters thanks to this format. Speaking of which, the characters in this series are amazing. They have some of the best voice acting I've heard in anime, especially Ken's seiyu. I can't help but crack up whenever Ken starts into one of his heated rants about his dream harem ending.
The sense of comedic timing in the voice acting is out of this world, they know just when to change tone with the current situation. The girls surrounding Ken may seem to be typical anime personalities and to an extent they are parodies of stereotypes but I found them all to be very well written, as they know just when to through the view off into an unexpected fit of laughter.

There are also lots of guest appearances throughout the series, which I will not spoil for you. I will say that Fumihiko Tachiki's cameo had me absolutely rolling, as I'm a huge Eva and Kaiji fan.

My only real issue with the series that it's very short and some of the backgrounds are a bit drab (probably budget constraints, and they are in one one for most of the series). But I think the quality of the voice acting and writing make the series well worth a watch, it's been one of the funniest things I've watched recently.

Well, I went into this anime knowing next to nothing about the premise, other than it was a comedy. And as it the tradition with other comedies (FLCL, Excel Saga, etc.) I could not put into words just how fun this series is. You really have to just watch it to understand. It puts you in an almost trance like state, and bombards you with unforseen historical and pop culture references, but the flow of all this chaos is truly astounding. Every scene seems to have the ability to make me laugh and/or smile in some way, which is exceedingly rare for me.

Anyway, go watch ... this now. It's a must see.

Well, not entirely, but I think this points out the absurdity at play throughout this series. It starts out friendly enough but then it quickly spirals out of control, in a way that didn't feel natural to me at all. The characters are mostly annoying, especially the main character. He tries to redeem himself at certain points, I guess to prevent him from seeming like a total monster. But really, the character personalities in this series are anything but subtle.
This is a pretty iconic series, so you're probably going to ... watch this from the sheer hype around. For me personally, it did a go job of riling me up at the beginning, but it quickly becomes utterly silly. And I personally did not like the ending, as it reconfirmed my thoughts of the progress feeling totally unnatural.
