Curious right? You can't stop thinking about it can you? Why in goodness name should you watch this anime? It makes your eyes glimmer right? Well hold of your frustation of me pulling that lame pun and let me begin my review of Hyouka!
Story: Hotaru Oreki is a dull and unenthusized Teen entering his first year of high school. Not giving a crap about studies or clubs his motto is "If I don't have to do it I won't, If I do, I'll make it quick" and believes to conserve as much energy as possible. At the request (almost borderlining demmand) of her sister to
...
Join the classics club to save it from disbanding due to low members and there meets a girl who hadn't realized that she was in a locked clubroom. After the minor mystery is solved Oreki finds that this girl, Chitanda Eru is quite the curious type and for whatever reason he can't quite say no to her. Its from there, that a series of curious cases begin. Notice I didn't say mysteries because to be honest the mysteries are quite mundane. to quote the movie other guys, its not miami vice where its Drugs and Murder scandals, it's quite small scale only increasing slightly and no one's life is at risk, its the simple cases one gets during their highschool year. Now why did I give this an 8? Well its not only a character driven thing, but fact of the matter is that these cases really are the more likely thing one will encounter in high school and the writing is done in such a way that you realize these characters are taking it seriously to the point where you want them to chill out. But as one character put it, they're high schoolers and their sense of importance is overblown. Staying true to its setting it can be a negitive for mystery pursuists while for slice of life enthusists it could be a plus, where I stand, is that it does its job to move along the next section-
Characters: I always tell myself that characters are just as heavy as plot in a series and either one can carry a series over. In this case the Characters are definetly the stronger piece, because there are no other characters better for this story than Houtarou, Eru, Sotashi and Mayaka. These four that make the classics club are very entertaining to watch, not only to bounce off of each other but in their own right as well. Houtarou is the most likely to connect with the lazy in all of us (me especially) and even though the cases he goes through are small, he's a BEAST at solving them and is just smart in general *he even works his way through a few bribes for good mesure*. Eru can be either really cute or really annoying to the viewer, either way though its undeniable she's important as she's the trigger for Houtarou to get involved in these cases (and the recent onspring of curiosity memes online) and later in the series you can see subtle ways in how they connect with each other and its always a pleasure to see people blushing. Stoashi appears to be the comic relief but he's harboring quite the odd colors of emotions, not that he's two faced, but you can't quite view him the same once the series is over. Mayaka becomes important later in the series but her squabbles with Satoshi are amusing and what she goes through in the third portion of the story is likely to draw intrest. Through the series these characters change very subtly and its not through speeches or puffing on about friendship but almost like acctual people, the writing for them is done so well and subtly its amazing and it gets to the point where you find out that this is the main strength of this show...and speaking of strengths...
Art: Now, I've only cared about two shows from Kyoani, and one of those shows had a little movie called 'the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya'. Its simple, take the art and animation from there, put it here and add much more well done lighting, some great and sometimes surreal art style changes and thats pretty much what you've got for Hyouka in terms of art and animation, simply outstanding.
Sound: The Music here is very fitting, its classical, a bit bouncy when need be but not to the point of annoyance and is sort of soothing. Its the kind of music that really makes you think and at other times its really soothing and fitting of the normal setting. The Opening and Endings are also easy on the ears though you may be more distracted by the visuals they present. The Seiyuus here do a fantastic job at portraying their characters to the point that the stories I hear of Kyoanim getting bigname actors to play these roles isn't surprising in the slightest to me.
Enjoyment: with amazing technical values and the enjoyable yet interesting cast of characters I never regretted watching a single episode, even when the case at hand was just too mundane. It makes for a great viewing experience and at the end you'll really grow t like the cast and their relation towards each other. The cases on the otherhand can be either really mundane or easy to solve (I couldn't solve a mystery to save my life, but I was close to solving a handful of them) and the points in which the characters play up certian cases to be bigger than they are (oh second portion) while realistic given the setting can be a tad annoying.
Overall: Focus on the mysteries, you'll really dislike this show, but come here for character and by damn it you'll have a show. Once you realize what the show is truly going for with its characters you'll really come to enjoy the ride and the writing put into it. May not be a perfect show but its definitly worth your time.

Hello everyone, welcome to my beelzebub anime review...*seethe*... if any of you remember my manga review then you'd think I'd br praising this too right? WRONG!! I CAN'T STAND THIS ANIME ADAPTATION, I SWEAR BEELZEBUB'S GOT THE WORST LUCK IN THE WORLD TO GET THIS PILE OF GARBAGE AS A ANIME ADAPTION!! well, I'm going to beging being a bit more mature reviewer here and explain to you why I despise this piec of sh- anime, so much, while I have nothing but love for the manga.
Story: Its pretty much the same, which really should make me hate it less, but its exactly this
...
reason why I hate it. It comes off the same, but they twist and turn so many things that made it awesome in the orignal. for example, Oga was supposed to blow ishyama into rubble after his fight with you know who, but instead it gets disoriented with a retarded punch mark. how... is that possible? I know beelzebub is batshit insane but thats just dumb! not to mention how they pretend like every deleinquent knows DBZ style ki attacks, when its really just the wind force from their blows. you don't even want to get me started on the fillers, the magical girl one was the most ridiculous. I really lost my shit during the rooftop battle arc, where stuff begins to happen that dosn't even exist in the manga, and they dare go back to the original plot. I just dropped it right then and there. basicly its the "same" but with many retarded twists and turns, its stupid for even beelzebub.
Art: it sucks. Just flat out sucks. I always thought fairy tail's anime had crappy animation, but beelzebub's anime made fairy tail look like BONES did the animation in my eyes! The designs into the anime range from semi ok to really annoying(why does hilda have elevator shoes?) the movements acctually seem to dull out the jokes rather than improve on them and the fight scenes... my god the fight scenes. the only one I liked was the last one against the THKH, and even that was just barely, the fights before hand were just pathetic only aoi's managing to entertain. The fights afterwards try to give everyone DBZ like ki attacks when its supposed to be OGA who can only do that, and he scarely does it! the rooftop fight with the three generals, which was my favorite supernatural fight in the manga, got completely butchered due to the pisspoor movements and hits not even seeming to connect. I've seen students in a animation class do better than these clowns!
sound: I barely acknowledged the sound track. nothing really struck me as memerable and only did its job to keep me awake while watching some of these episodes. I only liked the first OP and ED pair, the 3 end had pretty animation better than the damn show and was a nice song in general while op 3 was meh is, all the other themes were either mediocre, or can burn in hell for all I care.
Characters: all the characters I've come to love so much in the manga, the anime just pulled out the darkest, most cliche' parts about them and milked them for all its worth. I know oga's a dumbass but in the anime he completely looses whatever coolness he had in the manga. There he was dense but also had a decent understanding about how delinqents roll and knew what action was right, here he seems just as cliche as any other shonen hero, Furichi's pervness gets to the point of disturbance, Hilda's barely there, increasing my lack of intrest in her character, Alendelon is much more gayer than the manga, Lamia's voice makes my ears bleed, Beelzebub's shocks become more annoying than funny, Kanzaki and Himekawa...well I didn't care that much for them in the manga anyway... but worst of all, AOI. my favorite female character there, her "cute" onesided love for oga gets WAAAAAY overplayed, to the point where I understood WHY her haters disliked her, plus she isn't nearly as badass as in the manga, need I bring up the fact that she never flipped Mikki in the rooftop fight? Tojo is the only one they didn't ruin fortunatly (seeing how he's allready dumber than oga its kinda hard to make him dumber) and shizuka's crush is more played out a bit, seeing how it never got that way in the manga but oh well.
Enjoyment: Do I seriously need to fill this out?
Overall: The manga was, and still is, shittons better. Maybe if sunrise did this and they didn't start when it was only on chapter 90!! it could have played out alot better, but for now, I curse this anime to burn in the deeptest pits of hell, and I gleefully await when this trash ends in april and stops ruining my beloved manga.

I. LOVE. BEELZEBUB. the manga version anyway, I despise the anime from the deepest parts of my heart and soul but thats another review. Beelzebub is my favorite ongoing manga right now, and why? because I'm a comedy person if anything and Beelzebub always cracks me up while also displaying some awesome action. as much as I wanna be a fanboy and say its perfect, I can't I'm being a reviewer and I have to treat it as any other work.
Story: Its pretty odd but simple: a delinquent kid gets stcuk with the prince of hell and in his attempts to try and latch the
...
child off to someone more vile and evil, they cause ALOT of stuff to go down. Ok so maybe there isn't any deep subliminal messeges nor does it stray that far from shounen tropes, but what keeps beelzebub intresting is its bizzare nature and humor, its so random that you really can't tell what will happen next. there might be a fight, but maybe some dude's gonna fall through the roof. there might be romance, but maybe baby beel will turn the room into a shock chamber. There might be a joke, but maybe someone's gonna get slammed into the wall before the punchline is reached. did any of that make sense? exactly. and thats what makes it so enjoyable. as far as structre goes its pretty well put together. It keeps a straight forward plot without too many subplots and if there are any they end soon. If beelzebub were to end at anytime there would be almost no plot holes left... well excpet for two, but I hope for it to go on and cover those. As the plot gains a tad more substance and more is divulged into the demon world and its fractions, the action gets toned up, however unlike reborn, it dosn't didtch what got it this far and remains funny even throughout the asskicking.
Art: This is Ryuhei Tamura's Very first manga, so in the begining it dosn't really look as good. However he makes great designs for the delinqents and early environment. There aren't any messy pannels were you can't tell whats going on and he has a goot dynamic for when the action kicks in.There are a few goofs with the psysics of someone when they are sent flying however, wether its intentional to show a characters strengh or not isn't sure though. The art gets better by the chapter as most mangas do, never really noticing once your up to chapter 136 but when you go back you can see the diffrence once you go back to chapter 15 or so. Another merit is that Ryuhei makes HILARIOUS faces for his characters when a WTF momment comes and it adds to the humor.
Character: Oga tatsumi is set off to be "a evil bastard" even without beel at the start of the story, and that hardly changes, though he isn't dislikable. Your able to laugh at his sheer stupidity, of which is only topped by Tojo, and are able to admire the badass that he is. He may follow some shounen tropes but its in such a twisted way it seperates him from the crowd. Baby beel is the prince of hell, a infant baby who may or may not even be a year old. Unlike other anime babies like Koenma or Reborn, He acts like an acctual baby and its hilarous. shifting from power to gag pack the only thing you can dislike is that he's constantly naked, but you kind of get used to it* no not in that way you sick bastards* Amongst the cast are a variety of characters that are either badass or hilarious in their own right, and your bound to get a few favorites.
Enjoyment: LONG LIVE THIS MANGA!! I always look forward to this eveyweek and everyweek I love the chapter and crave more. Its humor is so WTF bats**t insane that there will probably be at least ONE time where you tear up laughing, and when a character is out to kick ass, they kick it and send it flying into a wall *heck its Oga's signiture disaster mark!" I never have a dull momment with this manga.
Overall: It may not be perfect, but its pretty damn good and worth the read. I firstly reccomend this to anyone who likes a good comedy and reccomend action fans second. It started out as insane comedy action manga, and it still is an insane comedy manga. Even if you watch the anime I urge you to read the manga, you'll find some good enjoyment.

Ok... second review here! and I'll be doing Ao no exorcist, exciting and fun as it may be it has one fatal flaw: following shouen cliche's BY THE BOOK.
Story: The story is about rin Okimura, He is basiclly the son of satan and was adopted by a preist who adopted him and his brother, and saved him with his dying breath from satan who tried to darg rin back into hell. Because of this Rin decides to learn the ways of an exorcist to kick satans ass. As exciting as it sounds its much more basic than one would think. As you go through the
...
episodes you can almost just ask yourself: "what story device are we gonna use today?" Eventually the second part kicks in, and knowing the manga only had twenty something chapters at the time, I knew they would have to make up a filler ending, but... really? If you haven't seen the anime, I'll just leave it at that, but if you have, then you know what I'm talking about. Basiclly the result of trying a story device that dosen't mesh well with the environment.
Art: While the story is a bummer almost everything else is emensely enjoyabe. Like art for example, its pretty frikkin good and its awseome when you get to see Rin fight. the one gripe is that they use CGI too much, but they at least did it well enough that id dosn't just stick out from the environment and you can enjoy a shot without seeing some wierd thing on the screen.
Sound: The opening and ending themes are ones you're bund to like, I loved the first opening and second ending and while the others aren't my favorites they are pretty good too. the music always fits with the scene their trying to convey and some of the tracks are just mindblowingly awesome *Lit: OST track 7: symponic suite devil third movement exorcist*
Character: Like I said before, it follows story tropes and cliche's by the book, but if done right, you acctually don't really care. Post episode 19 and beyond, Rin is very likable and you can root for him to fry some demon ass and for him to reach his goal, he's also pretty funny and has one of the best derp faces I've ever seen in a while in anime. Yukio is another story... He has some intresting things going on but thats kind of all his character has, he's the serious type character and when the rest of the cast is more lively you tend to be the odd one out, plus its obvious as crap what they intend to do for his character that the 'intresting' bits about him are kinda drowned out by the fact that you have a clear guess on whats gonna happen. the rest of the cast such as rins classmates and Meifisto and other characters are lively, enjoyable, threating, etc. whatever character trope they try to fill they fill it right.
Enjoyment: cliche as it may be they hype and animation really payed off as I did have a fun expirence watching the episodes each week... up until a certian point but I'm sure you'll get what I mean.
Overall: Cliche'? yes. boring? No. One way or the other you'll have fun watching through the series and seeing all the cliche tropes be played out well. The parts when they diverge from the manga get kinda... wierd... but hey if you don't find any issues there then by golly your in for a one HELL of a ride! ah ha ha.... yeah... trust me while entertaining, you can find better anime from 2011
