Story: 3

Even though the concept is interesting, the story is poor. After 98 chapters I can sum up for you the whole story. Thugs appear, kill some fodder, Kenshiro appears, omae wa mou shindeirou-nani, man explodes, blonde man who is the thugs' boss appears, Kenshiro does some Hokuto no ken, lots of blood, blonde man is dead. Add some family/brother issues and that's it. The only aspect which led me not to drop the anime immediately, but in the end proved to be insufficient, was the emotional deaths.

Art: 6

The art is detailed, but at some parts confusing. ... I am willing to excuse sloppy animation in old anime, but the same doesn't go for the manga. All the bad guys who belong at gangs have the same design and facial traits, which smells lazy.

Character: 6

Characters are nice, but not something outstanding. Kenshiro, his siblings and Rei are interesting and villains are memorable. Any female is completely useless and serves just for motivation for the men, something that bugs me. Any other character lacks basic motivation, goal and special character traits.

Enjoyment: 2

I cannot explain the reason, but the manga was unpleasant for me, to the point where I couldn't even finish it, much less reread or fanboy over it.

Overall: 3

Dragon Ball. The grandaddy of anime, the childhood of many, the 20 episodes battles, the transformations, the continuous 5 minutes shouting et.c. If you are here for these just skip it. Go to Z already. i want to clarify that I don't have any nostalgia at all, since I started watching Dragon Ball during the spring's coronavirus lockdown for the first time. Now, let's dive into it.

Story: 7

Let's not lie. You didn't come here for the story. Dragon Ball follows a pretty basic plot with the basic shonen protagonist who sets a goal and will do anything to achieve it, the basic pervy mentor/master and ... the basic gang which expands as the anime goes on. The reason I gave a 7 is that all these mainstream traita are done really well. The eternal problem with this whole franchise is one: PACING. Pacing is Toriyama's nightmare, as he can't balance the plot progress with the battles. The gratest example is the Muscle Tower arc, which took about 10 episodes, which could be summed up in 2 episodes.

Art: 6

Art doesn't hold a candle to today's masterpieces that are being animated, but compared to the age it was animated and the style that was used back then it was consistent.

Sound: 7

The soundtracks aren't memorable at all, but the op is enough to offer a 7. I just love this song and I would never skip it. Eventually I became addicted and ended up loving it. The voice acting was good too, without annoying parts

Character: 9

What gives Dragon Ball such a high score is the diversity of the cast. Goku, Bulma, Oolong, Chi Chi, Krillin, Roshi, Yamcha, Tien, Piccolo, Tao Pai Pai, Launch and the rest had their own unique character which I enjoyed to the fullest.

Enjoyment: 10

Dragon Ball is a light-hearted series, which knows whento take itself seriously. Most arcs were beautifully done with only exceptions being 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai and Muscle Tower arc.

Overall: 8

Amazing anime, part of a huge franchise, I would recommend giving it a try before jumping to Dragon Ball Z for a sense of adventure and more martial arts.
