Who's the ignorant who said "Anime can't be scary" ?
It is gore, scary, and there's no limits.
The horror-gore animation Corpse Party: Tortured souls is the best anime I saw about feelings' rollercoaster.
Don't get me wrong here, it is not just gore or horror ; the story is well handled and characters are interesting.
It'll keep you high during the 4eps and will show you that Tokko, Shiki and Another are for little girls.
[Story]
Story's great ; suspens, twists, not too much not not enough. Just what fits in 4eps. I am not interested in the true-horror/gore genre, I watched it by curiosity, a new year's night :
...
I am absolutely not disappointed.
It made me think about Silent Hill too. I didn't play Corpse Party game but anyone with a little experience in videogames will feel it like a game.
[Sound]
Nice, really good voice acting and songs as much as effects are well-coordinated. You know, when you think the shout is too long or the laugh so fake ... This is not what happens here. I'll say once for all, it's well coordinated.
[Characters]
Awesome. We're not in one of these fancy drama or comedy (which I like, drop that chair) with over emotional and completely irrational characters. "But it's just a show man !" *shhhh* Anyways, character's personnalities are great and I could say rational. Personnal thought though.
[Art]
11/10. The whole animation is dark, in a movie I'ld say "the light show is really great!". The blood is not just that flashy unicolor red nonono .. I really felt like it was a movie.
I don't recommend it for those who are looking for "a dark ambiance" or "a gore and/or violent anime" it is different.
Now, don't even dare to think once the first episode is over ; things can only get better. If you didn't enjoy it for any reason, drop the anime.
Well, enjoy !

To me, Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha Gaiden are the best episodes among the whole animation.
Gaiden is situated between the two seasons and tells the story of what happened to Yin and Hei during this time. It is deeply focused on Yin & Hei relationship as Yin is becoming more "human".
--
What I enjoyed the most here is how characters (not only main characters) are shown, I won't say more but if you saw at least the first season you'll enjoy (like really) Gaiden.
Except maybe some rare exceptions (according to your feeling meter) you will really FEEL the emotions here. I can't say more to
...
let you enjoy.. ;)
If you saw Kuro no Keiyakusha and Ryuusei no Gemini first like me, then don't worry : it really fill the gap and answer to the "wtf happened ?".
It may be just me but I got the impression that Art is improved here and improve the dark ambiance.
The story is really good and never lose itself, no side-stories, no unrelated events which could break the thing. You start the first episode with an icecream, and finish the last ripping the bottom of the cup with your twisted spoon. It goes quick, precisely, point on important things. With the characters that's what made my enjoyment meter really high.
I highly recommend to watch it, maybe after the second season to leave the anime on a high-feel.
Finally, I think that if the whole Darker Than Black animation would have been like this OVAs, I would have given it a 9+.
Not saying that it should be "the same" obviously... but it's like what was missing before is finally understood to deliver a 100% full episodes. (may check my other DarkerThanBlack reviews to fully understand this statement).
Well, enjoy !

Don't call this episode "the 26th episode" anymore.
The story is cool and will give you kinda a break if you watch it during Kuro no Keiyakusha. This episode, between other things, treats on the relationship between Kiko and Yin, and furthermore : Yin and the crew (Hei, Mao and Huang).
That is why I recommend to watch it a bit after Kiko (you know, that pink-haired girl crazy of cosplay) and Yin met in first season.
I was amused to see how characters interact here and I liked this little side-story.
Except this, nothing really change about art and sound, opening is still cool.

Surprisingly, I had a little more enjoyment on this season than Kuro no Keiyakusha.
The story is focused on Yin and even if it's the same universe, it differs a lot from the season1.
I enjoyed this season more because it's a new way to see the characters. Unfortunately, there is still this lack of something in the story to give this anime an amazing power.
But the end let you like you need more, because it ends worth than season 1. I mean there's this "fake end" you have in canceld TV-shows which doesn't fills your attends. Don't get me wrong, I still like it, but
...
I'm ashamed to see that it could ahve been ways better.

Darker Than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha is like a chocolate box, but not for the reasons you think. You watch episodes after episodes knowing that you should stop there but continue because you want to empty the box.
The anime isn't "bad" itself, I would have not given it a 7/10 otherwise but ..
There is absolutely no happiness in this anime, but I won't say there's sadness too :
The story is like an empty shell, and every aspects of the anime is like this. It feels like there's a lack of everything, nothing's finished. The story lacks of relevant passages. Characters have no personalities even if
...
some aspects of the anime are around this, you don't find the characters cool (or bad-ass or cute or whatever you want/like) because everytime something "breaks".
It is like everything is 85-90% completed ; but what's missing is the most important.
Art is correct and Sound is as good as it is bad; sometimes you just wonder why that kind of music is playing.
I watched it entirely because I wanted to see the end, I even watched OVAs and season2 but that's for an other reason ; different approach on characters.
I rated it 7 'cause despite of everything I said, things matches. It is not like a deep story ruined by characters or charismatic characters lost in a non-sense story. I got an average enjoyment of this anime, maybe pulled to the top by unrelated-to-story passages.
