Both shows star a pair of children, a boy and a girl, who are basically orphans Both pairs of children are involved in a quest to find a parent(s) after seeming to receive something from their parent(s) Said parent(s) are considered a legend in their field of work Both take place in a world which previously had an advanced civilization on it Both have the children have a job that involves delivering something (one is delivering packages to others, the other is delivering artifacts to the surface). The job also has levels. The job was previously undertaken by their parent(s) Both involve a friend of their parent(s) who is currently regarded as a legend and is feared Both shows involve achieving a goal by going somewhere that is thought to be impossible to return from. Even the places sound similar, the Grand Stream (Last Exile) and the Final Maelstrom (Made in Abyss). Both may hold the answers to the history of their worlds. The quests even seem to take them physically to the extremes in opposite directions. One is to the deepest depths of the earth (Made in Abyss) and one is to the highest reaches of the skies (Last Exile). Both shows have one of the children that might not entirely be human, hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of their world and seem to have come from the impossible place they are trying to go to Both shows have a unique distinct animation Both shows have excellent world building and character development. There are way too many similarities to count and I'm surprised nobody else recommended this

Both involve protecting their chastity (one because of an actual reason, the other due to misinformation), very creative sex scenes, episodic story line and funny ass humour. Both have romance in them as well, but Oretama more so.
