Character design and plot are so similar that I find it extremely hard to remember the difference beteween the two. Same story about very close friends falling in love with each other, interleaved with the stories of many secondary characters.

The starting point is quite similar since in both titles the MC is a girl who has to fight against monsters using a spirit sealed within her body. There is quite a bit of horror in both, with dismemberment pretty common in Ga-Rei and more "psychological" violence in HnA. The main differences can be found in the character design: Ga-Rei is more realistic than HnA but they both share a dark atmosphere in the whole design.

In both cases the manga is advertising a novel, so the story is either a preview of the real deal (Beatless) or downright a prologue of the real story (Tokage no Ou). The art is quite interesting in both cases, even though they are extremely different from one another in that field. Tokage no Ou is more violent and gory, while Beatless is more reflective and "serious". There is way more ecchi in TnO than in B:D. Since both are a foretaste of the true deal, the novel, the expectation shouldn't be great in either one. TnO, in particular, is a completely pointless read if you're not planning to read the novel after that.

Both manga are set on an island where the characters are stranded. There is a lot of violence represented in both of them and they both have a psychological involvement between the different characters. The protagonists are, for some reason, people far from normal.

The protagonist falls in love with the male lead, then there is a friend of hers who falls in love with her as well. Both are shojo manga and both follow the usual situations found in this kind of manga. The art is quite similar between the two, as well as many of the characters.
