Well its been a massive roller coaster of The Magical Misadventures of Saito and friends. Still left to wonder how this managed to get a budget enough to make 4 seasons of it.
Season fours story stick to that of previous in the fact of when something happens it only stays for an episode, two if you're lucky. However the finale does hold out for almost an entire four episodes for the final climax of the season, a new record as far as this series is concerned. Doesn't stop the fact it seems like each episode could have been only 6 minutes long if you cut
...
out all the pointless scenes.
Art, and the term is used loosely, has barely improved and in some areas it seemed to have gotten worse. Most notable on faces, half the time they lack any real emotion or they were so crudely done you cant see half of it. Then there's the little moments, such as hair waving when dancing, moves a hell of a lot more than it really should.
Music went back to its season 2 type. Good proper pieces that didn't end in just a minute or two, it lasted though the duration of the scene or battle. It however doesn't stop that some sounds and light pieces are reused a few times too many and still the faint lurking sound of background static during slow silent scenes, should you have ears and headphone acute enough to notice it.
Character brought in some new developments as there was one part it could have turned into a massive romantic drama scandal or taken a huge twist on the main characters love life. but it's quickly dismissed later on as if it never happened which is utterly mind boggling as to why something meant to be a serious thing is brushed off as a minor issue. And this doesn't happen just once, it happens a few times throughout this season, some worse than others but they're more or less treated the same way.
Overall enjoyment when going into this season was low. Personal note, i just wanted it over and done with and ended up taking a two week hiatus from it. But upon returning to finish the final few episodes, it was pleasing to see that it actually picked up on its action, story and drama to the point where it actually got rather interesting. Apart form the fact of the realism when obtaining such high grade weapons, goes completely out the window and more dead things return from the grave than a zombie movie, it was a much improved ending other previous seasons as greatly acceptable considering the disappointment of its predecessors.

Terrible tsundere and magical mishaps season 3. Have you ever had the feeling where you should have stopped a long time ago but you didn't and came crashing down from your peak? This is that crash.
The story for the first half seems to throw out the window what was learnt in previous seasons and go on its own trail for the good of doing nothing more than adding a new face to the already horrific harem. It does however have an evil working in the background that has been doing so for longer than the viewers realize and only now comes to light. More so
...
even though the play of this series, it seems the villain isn't played out to their full game yet so they just filled in the rest of the season with more quickly blown over conflicts, cleverly concealed in what seems like a multi episode situation.
Art has more or less stayed same same as the previous season and thus not much can be noted on that front. However animation of the "larger" characters is a lot more fluid and carefree in their bounciness.
In the sound it lost the thrill of lengthy musical numbers and just became a lot of ambiance, whether that be guards chattering or a wagon strolling along. Which isn't bad, it shows they're doing something to fill is silence and for good reason too. The one scene of utter silence, when a character talks you can hear the background noise of the VA's lines and it's horrible!
Character development went absolutely nowhere. The end result is exactly the same as it started with, only with more characters added to the harem of the main character that makes you want punch the creators over how thick you can make a person. Seriously if that was an award, this anime wins hands down every time.
Enjoyment in the first 3 quarters of the season was dull. Same as season 1. However the last quarter seemed to up the ante a bit and get the viewer a little more interested. Even makes you laugh more than every episode prior. Then, much like the first season, when something interesting looks like it's going to happen, its all brushed over with in half an ep and you're left with a large sack of disappointment. Makes it worse when it's the last so called "battle" of the season.

Cheers! To a seconds season with more explosions than a Michel Bay movie! No but seriously that school should invest in bomb suits…
The story of the second season seems to be a lot more aimed at character development under the impending situations that is picked up where season 1 left off. Despite all that’s going on, there still seems to be a lot of times you’re not sure if you’re watching a bad harem, magical romance or cringe worthy comedy. However within all this, it was much better paced out than its prequel even so, there are the occasional parts that a very easily predicted
The
...
art and styles at first glance don’t seems to have changed much. But upon closer inspection background and scenery seem to be a lot better than simple cell shaded pigments that look like an elementary schoolers painting. Effects on magic usage in some elements have not changed where others, namely fire and… explosive void failures, have been given a bit of love in the effects boosting.
Music took the leap of a lifetime and it seems to have paid off. There is so much more original music in this than its predecessor and its very pleasing to note. The action episodes lasting over the space of a few episodes each instead of 3 in 4 episodes, allows us to take in a better lot of musical pieces at length instead of being given a large chunk of half minute sample sounds.
Character development is a lot more in depth in this season with a few new faces and significantly more family back story for both new and old characters alike. You will come to laugh, cry and even detest some returning characters while their pasts get explored more and new characters that have a deeper bond, with the older ones, than you may think.
Overall enjoyment was very off on at the start but almost brought me to tears in its finale… Only to have it ruined by an incredibly stupid ending. Was it supposed to be comedic? Because it backfired, majorly. Anyway, throughout the 12 episodes, it will make you laugh, it will make you cringe and it will make you wonder how stupid can the writers make a character. Even still, it was a major step up from season 1

Magic is cool. Everyone loves magic. Having real magic, the stuff of fantasy is almost every child's dream.
Zero no Tsukaima is a rather hasty story that looks like it was at first originally to be a much longer first season as most of it is character development that suddenly, half way through, turns into everything is happening and then ending again all within one or two episodes leaving the finale rather lack lusting as you expected something more spectacular than was given. It opens a lot of question and leaves a lot of them unanswered as they go parading around the place, learning of many
...
things but never really question why.
Art is fairly par as nothing really stood out in its 13 episodes. colors and cell shading is basic stuff and even the scenery looks made of the same stuff not being something of awe which is rather lacklustering considering how much landscape is shown.
Music is subtle but decent. It's used to empower the scenes and convey the correct atmosphere, but not at a pace that makes it stand out which isn't a bad thing. However it is noted there is some stock sample music which is rather disappointing. Sounds are rather basic as reused multiple times which almost makes it seem this anime had a low budget to start with,
Characters left a lot to be desired. There is still much untold about the main characters and the only back story we've heard is of an MC's classmate. However the development between the Hero and Heroine is easily seen and steadily grows.
Enjoyment was so-so. It makes you laugh but it also makes you wish it would sometimes move on to something more meaningful or interesting. Don't be surprised if you reach the last episode of the season and wonder is that really all there was. It produced such a beautifully large potential story then cut it off at the hips with such a sudden ending

Insert compulsory Nyanpasu here.
Sometimes it's good to just relax from all the stress and enjoy the little things in life that at first may not seem like much, but will be the things you miss the most when you cant do them anymore.
Non Non Biyori is possibly the most calming, therapeutic and entertaining slices of life, around today. Nothing abnormal, nothing over ridiculous, no meaning to each episode or conceivable plot line and yet each episode leaves you yearning for what will happen next. From a distant summary of each episode nothing seems overly interesting however it takes that and makes each and every episode
...
into something that awakens your younger memories, inner child and sense of relaxation.
The art right from the get go is staggering. A little bright in some cases but can easily been seen that an immense amount of effort went into making each and every scene look as utterly beautiful as it is. However while the scenery is mind blowing good, it does make the animated characters stand out multiple times, occasionally looking out of place with the art.
Music, sound, voices. You name it, its done almost perfectly in this anime. The mix of the characters, scenery, music and everyday tasks that happen in the anime all seem to blend together in a way that takes you back when you were in primary school and is a rather joyful feeling. To the point where you don't even want to skip the intro because it just installs that feeling of blissful relaxation into you. Once you get used to the lyrics sounding like they were sung by a 14 year old holding their nose... (Personal note, I had the ending theme playing on repeat while writing this)
The characters for the most cases could not be more relate-able. from boring school life, to weekend chores. Even the feeling of it being the end of the world when you're 7 years old and your friend moves away. Apart from the occasional over exaggerated dialogue scene, nothing is anything different from what you'd call "The norm." Character Development is fairly panned out thing as you steadily learn more about the characters through everyday things that happen in each ep as they all treat each other as long time friends from the beginning. The only thing that was questionable was the lack of male voices. It was utterly shocking when the first male line was spoken... late in the season... Despite the fact there being at least one male character there the entire time (Nicknamed under appreciated Glasses-Kun)
Enjoyment was never a dull moment. The first episode establishes the calm environment that the anime is and from there it just plays on the extremely average slice of life to the point where eventually you find yourself laughing at scenes that really should not be funny, but for some reason they just are and you can't explain it. If you don't have kids, this anime will bring out your inner child. If you do have kids, you'll find this odd but amusingly adorable. Both all the while feeling reminiscent or nostalgic.

A lot of the older "fighting hero" type shows have something about them that all the modern day ones do not. While I'm unsure what that is, it always seems to be the 90's shows that entertain me no matter what their target demographic is.
Pretty cure is almost exactly what you'd expect a magical girl anime aimed at pre and early teens, to be. Each and every episode is an excuse to kick ass. However unlike some shows of this age, Pretty Cure ties it all in despite being 49 episodes long, making it seem like there are no fillers and every episode, whether it
...
even just be character development, is there for a reason. They go though their everyday school life while dealing with things an everyday student of that age would deal with. Only, to make it more entertaining, they throw in magic powers and someone to beat up every episode with the final battles spanning over a few episodes.
The art, for today's age cant be held much for trail as what's released today is much sharper and higher quality, not to mention the animation progressions allow more moving objects to be on screen at any one time. However for it own time of the late 90's, this is surprising well done, even for a childrens show. The occasional 3D for some items or major beings, while is clearly noticeable in the show, it still blends in astoundingly well. From there the rest of the animation can be jumpy at, time of large battles and seem like too much is happening too fast. However rarely does the animation noticeable stand out from the background and scenery as it all blends well and makes it all seem it was made together and not animations done over a still canvas. But then comes in irritably noticeable time scenes are reused. Some to the point where you lose count and just make you skip past it back to the actual show.
Music was very off and on. Many times were themes reused every single episode. Although there were a few themes that will actually make you move to the beat they're that catchy. Whether you like rock, jazz, orchestra or something more funk. Precure has it and it does it well.
Character is everywhere. From main to secondary and villains. Everyone has their own personality and for a school setting, they're played amazingly on key, its astounding how relate-able they can be. While there main two heroines are the shows main focus, there are episodes where even the secondary character get a lot of character development and it really works with tying into the main characters story line as it is called upon and mentioned in later episodes.
Enjoyment is... Well quite touch and go, while it has many entertaining parts. It has just as many cringe worthy moments that made you want to skip ahead. They seemed to go quite hand in hand as every second episode one or the other seems to happen. Lastly while each episode, when you take out the into and endings, is about 21 mins you still end up skipping more when you take into account the reused scenes that get really freaking boring to see every single episode.

You either die the comedian or you ride the joke long enough to be the reason everyone cringes. This show unfortunately become the latter.
The story is best under stood when explained by the loony tunes Tasmanian Devil while on acid during a roller coast ride that breaks down half way through. While its reasoning to be a super hero anime, is beyond mind comprehending other than having a reason to put in as many obscure fetishes into a show as possible, it does however at least keep the basis of a 'superhero' type anime. Good guy is winning, bad guy gets stronger, good guy starts
...
to doubt, divine intervention and back to ass kicking, etc
When you start to give more attention to detail on the shows fanservice suits and insane amount of fetishes, it becomes something a little difficult to watch. While bearable at first, it gets very noticeable about half way through of how little care they put into the actual faces of both the MC's and secondary characters alike. The colors are similar to that of a childrens superhero show in that all the good guys are bright colored while the villains are almost always dark, gloomy and obsessed with stealing/destroying something on the earth
Music holds a rather high point about this anime though as not one is it a dull or misused moment with sound effects or BGM. The sound is the one thing that makes the action scenes somewhat captivating and not making you turn off your computer and burning your eyes for the fact of it seems more entertaining at the time.
Character development does happen, however... odd it is. Every new development is another strange addition to the characters profile. Most villains never last more than one episode and the process is rinsed and repeated every new installment. Apart from that one lesbian character that was relevant for all of 3 episodes. That was a record secondary character introduction for this anime.
Enjoyment and humor was super high from the get go. The sheer "wtf" of this keeps you laughing enough to want to see how stupider it can get. Until however by about episode 9 or 10 it gets old and boring when they harp on about the same jokes expecting more laughs and you just want it over with. When you think something enjoyable or close to normal is happening, it takes a turn and leaves you back in the corner of shame for even thinking it would do such a thing.

Comedic slice of life anime will always be a great thing to kick back and watch no matter how many of them are published and this sure is no exception.
Kiniro Mosaic starts as a story of childhood friends and quickly turns into a high school fountain of comedic humor where half the time you have to watch a scene two or three time to full get what the hell just happened because you missed half of it from laughing too much. Starting at three original friends quickly becomes 5 as the foreign friends become local classmates and with five very different personalities, the most unlikely
...
of friends make for some... cultured humor
It comes across as very bright and cutesy which is understandable for its aimed at younger age groups but at some points can become too much as the constant highlight of "blonde hair" either blends into the scene too much or it stand out so much so its the only thing that you end up focusing on. It really doesn't have a middle ground as the animes' color plate seems very finite and can be displeasing to the eye.
Music is matched to the art style to keep it a very cutesy child like portrayal but a lot of the time blends with the scene to the point where you don't notice it. It's used in many ways to amplify the scenes atmosphere or just a backing to make scenes flow smoother or make it seem a lot more calming. A for the voice acting, the "English" spoken by the European foreigners is utterly horrid and can almost cause bleeding ears. Even if it is spoken by Japanese VA's imitating a British accent.
Characters are questionable as none seem really relate-able and each have a personality so far set from each other its sometimes hard to believe that they're friends. As for the development of the characters, these kinds of anime rarely have much in term on character development and this hold true for the most part. However that is not to say there isn't any but it's all within the first few episodes with little pieces over the next few episodes as well.
Enjoyment was a bumpy ride as It comes with light yuri undertones and sometimes barely legal humor for an anime of its age demographic while also keeping its very bright and happy moments that make you just want it to hurry up and move on. It also has a lot of spontaneous humor that is quite spotty in its actual comedic value as some are laughable and others just make wonder if they were even trying to be funny when they put that in. But it still was overall a great comedy.
Overall Score: 7/10

Now so many magical girls anime are around and about these days
But how about something that can be classed as "magical boy" anime? It's a rare occurrence and Dog days is one such.
The story of dog days is kind of forced on the viewer with not much of a proper explanation at first. It explains itself as it goes and you learn more and more about it as things unfold. However it does create many plot holes and loops in the differing worlds' stories as to how events in the real world are immensely unrealistic and utterly unexplained. That being said, Dog Days seems to
...
focus not so much on the male protagonist but more so on the events happening in the alternate world and they do convey the story of such relatively well.
Art style is very cutesy. Some times too much so considering the type of anime it is. It does make for good entertainment but also makes it very had to even attempt to take seriously because its so bright and candy colored. This does not however limit the effects and battle scenes as being the "magical" feel it has really makes for some interesting action scenes even if it does feel like you're watching a Japanese Wipeout competition... until later on (So hard trying to avoid anything even slightly spoilerish)
Music for actions and suspenseful scenes is used quite well as even the times you can see whats going to happen, you are still enticed because even if it goes unnoticed by the viewers, the music adds the sense of engulfment into the action where you want to see more. There are only a few times during the entire 13 episodes where is no music playing and even during those times the sounds effects used are what creates the scenes atmosphere whether its from simple foot steps to wind blowing in the background.
Character seems to be like a coin that's had one side word down in the fact of, in the alternate world where the story takes place, you can see the development between the characters slowly getting better even if its not admitted. Meanwhile in the original world its almost as if it skipped a few beats as its not referenced to or the friends and family are only mentioned on a rare basis. Even still, the world where everything takes place for some characters a bit more development wouldn't have hurt either as I myself (slight bias here) was wanting to know more backstory on a few characters on either side of the battlefield.
Overall enjoyment was kept fairly steady throughout the entire season with it hitting a peak in the final 5 eps before, just while the hype slowly dies down, kicking you with a feels moment before rising it back up again. This feels moment is both expected in some ways but executed in others you wouldn't expect. However overall it does leave something to be longed for. There is fan service within the first few eps but it's not rolled upon every episode and is actually kept rather tame while the humor card is constantly played well to the point where it will gather a chuckle or too even in the feels moments.

The art of assassination has always been about sticking when your target least expects it. But what if the 'when' is expected but the 'who' is the last thing in the world you would think of? Then you know you will always have the upper hand.
Gunslinger girls story is about a group of near death, primary school girls that get converted into cyborgs for new life, ineradicable feats of strength and trained as assassins. Sounds amazing right? Well the excitement is short lived as you realize how lives of the characters are and you get told the story behind each girl. It doesn't have a
...
linear focus as it just revolves around the work life of the welfare girls meaning its story is all over the place and a few of the episodes can be watched in almost any order desirable and still have the same outcome. Tragedy is forever overhead as past lives for the girls is each its own sob story and their lives due to cybernetic enhancements, don't get much better as the years pass.
The art style of this anime really gives the feel of an older style eastern and central Europe and for its time, really does a good job at pulling it off. Even though the technology and forms of transport are 2003 style modern, the forever brown color it gives to all the buildings and the glistening background scenes makes it seem like something out of an older mafia type movie. This being said, the animation itself hasn't really been don't well for slower type scenes as movement in the animation is kept rather simple and almost lacking as can easily be spotted for moving objects at a distance.
Sound is at times well done and to detail and others seems like it was 3rd rate as they have recreation times, little things like the cup being placed back on the saucer, is a nice touch but then things like doors, running and glass breaking, all seem to use the same sound just rehashed over again. Music weighs highly to the orchestral side and fits really well with the anime's style of a modern yet older feel Europe. A few famous pieces such as Beethoven's 9th make an appearance while a lot of music for chase or action scenes is all original work.
The characters seem to be all played out well and after each has their story explained, can see why they act the way they do however as for the overall development itself in the present, it lacks in a lot of characters quite a bit. After being made cyborgs, only a few seem to change throughout the anime while the others exit as they entered making you feel a little disappointed in their character.
The enjoyment factor in Gunslinger Girl is admittedly low as the action scenes are quick to pass and it seems to just focus solely around the miserable cuts of their current lifestyles. This at first makes you think it's going to be an anime that will cut deep into the feels but as it goes on the gloomy aura never goes away and you get accustomed to it making it seem rather lacking on the emotional level. The ending seems to have the largest portion of emotion conveyed as it mixes both joy and sorrow with a bit of a cliff hanger ending that leaves the viewer questioning the morale of certain character.
