*This is my first attempt at a review, so please be nice and give me feedback on it*
It has a simple, but yet really nice animation and even though there are a bit of re-used scenes and it would have been nice with less still- pictures in some dancing scenes, but it's still beautifully done. The animation has many nice backgrounds and character designs that have its own charm.
The anime has many classic ballet songs that fit the anime, a very beautiful opening song and ending song. The voice for each character was really good. Ahiru really sounds a bit like a duck and Mytho's
...
voice goes from being flat and emotionless like the character is supposed to be, to have lots of emotions.
There is very much character development among the four main characters and while the supporting characters don't change.
Ahiru is quite naive in a way in the beginning and she develops nicely. She goes from just being in love with Mytho from distance, to love him for whom he are and she helps him, even though she knows that she will never be able to express her feelings for him without disappearing and she matures a lot.
Rue has a lot of character development too, and she shows just how much she is willing to do, including bad things, and sacrifice in order to have the one she loves.
Fakir is in the beginning a very unkind a bossy character that controls Mytho. He, like Rue do not want Mytho to change and tries to stop Princess Tutu from getting Mytho's pieces of his heart back. Then he gradually changes and becomes kinder and helps Ahiru to get Mytho back.
Mytho goes from being an expressionless and flat character, to a kind character with many expressions and a heart. But he still remains a shallow character in comparison to the rest of them.
I love the story. It might seem like some typical magical girl show from the synopsis, but it has in fact a very unique story and is not a typical magical girl show. Her magical transformation is just in order to try and get Mytho’s heart back and the transformation scenes are very short. She also needs the pendant for changing into a human. In the episodes we see Princess Tutu help people who have been possessed by some of the feelings from the shards of Mytho’s heart. But she helps them with talking and dancing ballet, not fighting evil monsters. There are also not just good verses evil here either, even though it comes at the end, but characters themselves have good and bad sides that show.
The story also has western fairytales in it with a twist or so and displays it very well.
There are some episodes in the middle which can be a bit repetitive, but they're not fillers in my opinion because these episodes help the character's growth. As other people have mentioned, it would have been interesting if the raven also realized that he was from a story,
I loved this anime. It has nice animation, classic music and a beautiful story. It is really good and I really enjoyed the show. I even re-watched it and still liked as much as the first time.
