Please keep in mind that this is my opinion of Log Horizon. It is also my first review so please don't be too critical.
Story:
The story is about our main characters finding themselves in a world similar to Elder Tale- an MMOPRG that they all played. Now the characters have to find out why that has happened and how to get back to their world.
What I love about the story telling of this anime is that they don't immediately jump to characters trying to find their way home. The characters actually take time to explore the world and learn how is it different from
...
the game they are used to playing. As a result, this creates world building and helps us learn more about the characters.
What I don't like is the fact that the show very heavy on exposition and character interaction and there is no sense of urgency from the characters on wanting to get back home. As a result, sometimes the story feels slow pace.
Art:
Since the anime is mostly runs on character interaction and exposition, there is not a lot of action sequences as a result the animation during those scenes are not very exceptional but it is better than average and watchable. With that being said, the animation during some of the background sceneries were lovely and memorable.
Sound:
The soundtrack in this anime is very well done. None of the tracks seemed out of place with any of the scenes to me and some of the tracks were especially memorable. I also love the opening. It was the same opening for all 25 episodes of the show and I did not skip it on any episode.
Character:
Log Horizon has a large cast of diverse main characters. With that being said, none of the main characters were ever side tracked. Every character had a role to play in the overall story arc. This could range from being the star of the arc to being a source of motivation for the character despite only having one conversation with the character. They also try to make sure that the main characters have some form of development.
The downside is that because there is such a large cast, the characters does not receive as much development as they could have.
Enjoyment:
I personally enjoyed this anime a lot. I have not watched a lot MMORPG anime, because sometimes it's hard for me to follow the story but this anime really helped understand the story due to the heavy exposition and explanation. I also liked how the anime stayed true to it's MMORPG style and yet did something very unique and different compare to it's predecessor.
Also, while the characters may lack development, they are memorable and unique when compared to their stereotypes and I also enjoyed watching them interact with one another and with the world they are living in.
Overall:
I recommend this anime to anyone who loves MMORPG style games because of how it's sticks true to it's MMORPG style and too anyone who doesn't mind if they show is more based on character interaction and exposition rather than action. I also recommend it to those who don't mind a slow paced story.
