This story about a mage wanting to be witch with no real after goal in mind didn’t interest me as much as I expected it to. Elaina our protagonist, is a devoted girl wanting to become a witch and travel the world. The first episode had some promise, but the three after that felt dull and pointless. Simply put, I became quickly uninterested after realizing this anime was purely based on Elaina’s journey. Now I understand the title being “The wandering witch” makes it seem like each episode will be something different and it is, but these episodes have no real stakes to them and

Elaina barely doesn’t anything all that impactful in each one On episode 3 she’s given flowers by a mystery girl in a flower field and is told to give them to someone in the next country over. She is halted by guards and the flowers ends up thrown away after being told they were poisonous. To which they were and after they were burned we cut to a scene of one of the guards in the flower fields being trapped by vines of a giant red flower “monster”. Assuming that this monster was the girl who gave Elaina those flowers to begin with, you’d think Elaina would have a bit of a moral compass and try and help the man trapped in vines but she just doesn’t. There was no attempt to help whatsoever and so she moves on. We even so multiple people in a state like that man who are wrapped in vines, walking like zombies to the country. That’s basically where that part of the episode ends and the next journey continues. Elaina is seen as a witch with great power but doesn’t do anything with it. Even in the episode before and after she is put in the middle of conflict and doesn’t really do anything about it. She’s just an observer which is honestly frustrating to watch. Maybe it get’s better later on but this show barely leaves an impression to want to continue.
