Fullmetal Alchemist....one of my first animes that I've watched and also one of the more memorable ones. The praise that FMA has garnered is not without reason and it greatly deserves its praise. The anime itself fulfills many genres and there is a little something for everyone within the 51 episodes.
Story:
The story of FMA is very unique and fresh for people looking for a new shonen anime to watch. You've got emotional characters who have lost their mom and journey to the ends of their world to repair the damage they have done in the past. For a while the story stays true
...
to the manga and even though i havent read the manga itself, I am almost positive that this adaptation has taken in all of the emotion and exciting developments from the original story and shaped a unique anime all its own.
The only flaw I can see with the story is the story near the end unique to the anime itself. While it is probably one of the most interesting and intricate "fillers" if that's what you want to call it, I found it enjoyable regardless. However I did find that the ending did leave some questions open and some characters are left out of the picture. While this isn't too bad it dropped my opinion of the story a bit...overall i'd give the story a 9.3
Art: The art is fine. It's not that extravagant but not that low quality for you to really make a big deal about it. The art of the many characters is very well done and the fight scenes are well drawn. It is shown that most of the art is done with great detail and adds greatly to the enjoyment of the anime.
Sound: The sound in FMA really shines above most animes. The OP and ED songs are extremely enjoyable and memorable. Rewrite still stands to be my favorite anime song I have ever heard. The other songs are very good too and fit very well into the story. As for the BGM songs they pop up exactly where they are needed and add to the emotional impact of certain scenes.
Characters: Characters in FMA fit in every single category of people. You of course have the good vs evil when it comes right down to it but there are so many unique personalities that there is a favorite character for everyone. I like how the line between good and bad is blurred at times and you learn to like the evil ones for their personality instead of hating them for their actions. All the characters fit well into the plot and no character is wasted in coming into the story. I would say that Fullmetal has some of my favorite characters and if you watch this anime you could very well be laughing crying and connecting with the characters themselves.
Enjoyment: Whenever I watch an episode of Gundam 00 or Darker than Black or Code Geass I get excited and more interested with every episode I see and of course this is a good thing. Fullmetal Alchemist however captures your heart from the very first episode and takes it through many hours of enjoyment. There is something about this anime that is nostalgic enough to keep you interested throughout the entire 51 episodes. While other animes may get your attention, FMA succeeds in capturing you into the anime and keeping you there till the conclusion.
Overall: FMA is one of my favorite animes and I am sure it will remain to be no matter what anime I watch in the future. Rest assured this is probably one of the best animes of all time and I couldn't help but think that it ended too soon. You connect so well with the characters and story that you can't help but be fixated on every single plot event. If you want one of the best shonen animes then this anime is calling out for you to watch it.
On a side note I cannot wait until the second season of FMA regardless of whether it is a remake of the manga or a continuation of the anime. The second season has inspired me to write this review so I hope the second season will be everything as exciting as the first was. I hope you all liked my very first review!
