‘’Not what it seems’’ is far from enough to describe how the poster above fools you. Asobi Asobase is the exact opposite of cute and friendly moe show. It is a loud, profane, vulgar and atrociously hilarious show.
It is about three girls with wildly different personalities coming together to form a new pastime club to…..pass time, playing games and stuff. As much as benign as that sounds, Asobi Asobase is full of toilet humor and inappropriate jokes, that will leave you wondering….in simple words ‘’WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?’’
You see in this show a man fires lasers out of his butt and there is a bug
...
that is probably more ripped than you are, so simply put…..well actually there is no ‘’simply put’’ for this madness of a show.
—Story and narrative—
For a show like this, story and plot are pushed away in order to fit in as much as jokes as possible. So let’s review Asobi Asobase as a comedy show, purely a comedy show.
It will not be wrong to say that, like many other comedy anime, some jokes fall flat but this is counter by the frequency of the jokes being thrown. If a joke is a bad one chances are that it is quickly followed by a good one.
The best part of the show are the running gags that are actually funny throughout the show. There is attention to continuity which is quite surprising for a show like this.
—Characters—
The characters are the heart and soul of the show. All of their quirks and features and distinct and well put together.
Hanako is rich but as dumb as one can be. She is probably a reincarnation of the devil but that probably isn’t even enough to describe all the hell she creates.
Olivia is half American but doesn’t know English at all. Expect jokes related to her poor English a lot.
Kasumi is a fujoshi and androphobic. But her shyness is totally deceptive as she is as obnoxious as other two.
The reoccurring characters are all unique from a wild digibro to a trap……to a guy that shoots lasers from his butt, yeah how could’ve I forgotten him.
—Animation and Sound—
If there is one thing Asobi Asobase lacks, it is its production qualities. The art style is really rough to look at first. The animation itself isn’t bad at all but the art takes a while to get used to. There is one thing that is worth mentioning, the faces. The reaction faces in this show puts other comedy shows to shame.
The OST isn’t really a standout but the ED song of this show aptly describes this show, how demonic it is. While the OP is cute and innocent.
The voice actors (especially that of Hanako) did a tremendous job, from speaking expeditiously to screaming on the top of their lungs.
—Conclusion—
While with flaws for sure, this show stands out as one the most enjoyable anime I’ve watched in a long time.
For sure, it doesn’t balance comedy with the story but it is a show that is set out be purely an absurd experience and achieves that quite well.
Comedy IS subjective but for people who love fast-paced, crude and zany humor, Asobi Asobase is a must watch.

‘’I feel myself going deep inside you’’
‘’You wanna ride me?’’
‘’Are you trying to suck Hiro dry?’’
Well, they are not trying to be subtle here guys.
—Narrative Structure and Characters—
First of all I want you to read following passage:
Our main character Hiro has romantic relationship with girl name zero two but Ichigo has feelings for Hiro. That’s not well as Goro has feelings for Ichigo. Not only Goro but Ikuno also has feelings for Ichigo. Ikuno is not in relationship with her partner Mitsuru as Mitsuru is in love with Kokoro. Kokoro also loves Mitsuru back but unfortunately Futoshi has feelings for Kokoro.
After reading that I want
...
to tell you guys that DarliFra is an anime about Dystopian mecha where mecha pilots fight giant deadly creatures.
Doesn’t fit, right? Well that’s exactly what’s this anime gonna throw at you. It’s 80% soap opera and waifu wars and 20% humanity survival against monsters.
It is even more unlucky that the bulk of love triangles revolve around characters that cannot be even described with more than 10 lines.
Hiro= generic MC-kun
Ichigo=Childhood friend and waifu no.1
02=Waifu no.2 and TBH an actual good character….until she’s not anymore
Futoshi= The fat guy
Zorome= The ‘’dattebayo’’ boy
Miku= The loud girl
Ikuno= The token lesbian girl
Goro= The bro dude
Kokoro= The pure girl until she’s not anymore
Mitsuru=The autistic dude until he’s not anymore
The reason I’m telling you about characters is that the show itself spends so much time showing these characters eat, take bath, change clothes, and then take bath again. When your characters aren’t good so only two things to make interaction interesting is….no.1 fanservice and no.2 best girl wars.
The fact that the manga adaptation of this actually shows uncensored fanservice is kinda sad. The pandering waifu wars worsen the appeal of this show. In other words it’s yet another pandering show.
The disheartening reality is that the world-building aspects are thrown out of window even when they could be so damn interesting. The world they built is so confusing and fragmentary that I think even creators had no idea where they were going with this. I talked about that this show has 40% mecha …well they aren’t so exciting as you hope they would be. Now, there is an episode( only 1) dedicated to how the current world came to be and pitiably that episode is the worst of entire show. Everything that is revealed in that episode was extremely integral for this entire show. And in simple words the revelations part was the most idiotic and laughable thing I’ve seen this entire year.
The anime is also full of SYMBOLISM **flashbacks to doggy style mecha-riding and ‘’I want to make a baby’’**
The final part of the anime feels so disjoint and messy that it actually becomes a joke. Everything about characters that are not figurines worthy is casted aside. I can’t spoil much but what happens in the final few episodes is just so jarring and unfitting that in simple words, makes an already average anime genuinely bad.
—Production—
A collaboration between Trigger and A-1 pictures sounds exciting. Leave it there since it only ‘sounds’ exciting. The animation itself sometimes kicks itself to ‘’holy shizzz is sakuga time’’ but hot damn the choreography is so messy and mediocre that you actually want the battles to be over so characters could go back and bitch-slap eachother.
Soundtrack is ok, nothing notable here. One thing for sure though the design of zero two is genuinely attractive. Some other characters also have good designs like those of Kokoro, Ichigo and Goro.
—Enjoyment—
Fortunately, DarliFra can be fun to watch. Dumb but fun. Keyword ‘can’ as it’s definitely not for everyone. I mean c’mon 14 year olds talking about baby-making and reproduction gets kinda silly and the innuendos are fun to catch onto as well.
Problem occurs when it tries to be very serious. The drama, action, stakes, world-building are average at best.
Personally after being through the latter half of this show, I can say that I enjoyed the first half. Everything that came after was painful to sit through.
—Conclusion—
If female characters moaning while bent over in mecha and male characters blushing and panting all the while is your thing then go for it. If you think you can be entertained by a brainless anime then go for it. You are certainly going to come across something enjoyable. Be warn though, it’s not NGE or Shinsekai Yori. Even if it’s wants to be one of them, it ends up being a pale imitation that caters to lowest common denominators.

¬—Extra arbitrary thoughts—
*MAJOR spoilers
Apparently energy from magma can give you immortality and cause desertification.
Why do mechs have anime-ish expressions and facial features? Seriously the entire mecha waifus things is so dumb.
What was the reason behind 01 being as younger looking as rest of the cast?
The rift in Mitsuru’s character was very poorly handled. 02 was so interesting but they turned her into a cheery and sparkly girl. They also forgot the rest of the supporting cast’s issues. All of them were facing something psychologically but none of it mattered in the finale.
There were multiple MULTIPLE episodes showing these papercut characters eat, fight and talk about kissing but only 1 episode for the origin of world! Even in that episode, the explanation of very unsatisfactory and underwhelming.
Why was the doctor so in love with 01. That just came out of nowhere. All of the series happened because Doc was an Atheist, huh.
WTH inter galactic battles, seriously
The finale SUCKED man.
No amount of ‘more episodes’ could’ve saved this trainwreck.

*Violet takes off her gloves to reveal a mechanical hand* *everybody gasps*--Multiple times in Bioretto Ebaagarden
Violet Evergarden is a triumph in Kyoani's line-up in terms of animation. There is a high chance that you might be interested in this show just because of its animation and trust me most off the people who watched the show were also the same. The truth is that VEG is downright GORGEOUS, from characters to backgrounds everything is eye-catching and detailed. This show is visually a gem no doubt that.
....but unfortunately, there are other things like story and characters that matter as much as the art if not more.
...
VEG is quite mixed bag in those departments.
Violet is a young lady with a dark past, she was an OP loli (not to be confused with a child soldier) in a war. She basically thought herself as a tool. She worked under the man named Gilbert. She and Gilbert had a very strong connection, not that of master and slave but that of....yeah I'm not sure if it is purely romantic but it's still heartfelt. Gilbert dies in the war(not a spoiler) and violet is left alone.
Violet was basically living on the orders from Gilbert and now she struggles to find a meaning in her life that does not involve killing, so she becomes an Auto Memory Doll (it's basically like I will write a letter for you with fancy vocab).
Violet meets different clients that tell her about themselves and through them she learns about life, feelings, emotions and herself.
So this is basically VEG, every episode Violet meets new people. Every ep has a new story interwoven with Violet's development. These stories vary from Uninteresting to feels-trip. And that really does affect this show. One episode is really good and next one is meh and one after that is different.
This pattern breaks in last few episodes but those episodes are its weakest anyways so....
The verdict for characters is same as the for the story. A good episode means the episode with good characters and vice versa.
Violet is a very interesting character despite the fact we don't know about her origins, about her life before becoming a child soldi...dammit! OP loli.
Everyone in the Auto memory doll department is not really interesting.
----TL;DR----
+Amazing animation
+Some episodes are heartwrenching.
+Violet is a genuinely interesting character
-Some messy episodes
