Both series: -Involve Faustian contracts made in the form of wishes -Transition from a relatively innocent, playful tone to a much darker one -Are incredibly easy to binge-watch In my opinion, MSMM has stronger visuals and music, but WIXOSS has stronger characters.

Both series take an unconventional approach to horror/mystery, forcing you to question the characters' perception (as well as your own) by blurring the line between reality and illusion via complex visual metaphor and cryptic dialogue. This more nuanced method of storytelling allows a lasting sense of dread and unease to be built organically, rather than relying on cheap jump-scares and excessive gore to momentarily shock the viewer.

Both series are very short and explore the inner-workings and nuances of romantic relationships, but HL focuses on a different couple or group of people for each episode and reveals very little about the characters other than a single moment in their relationships. DgNwIkWK is different in that it centers around a main couple where the husband is an otaku and the wife is unfamiliar with otaku culture, and because the whole series is dedicated to these two characters, we become much more familiar with their personalities and lives than with any of the characters in HL.
