Not impressed 3 episodes in. The first three episodes suffer from the same issues I had with the entire first season. However, the pros balanced the cons in the first season and made it somewhat enjoyable.

That is not the case in season 2. We’re thrown into a conflict with a new rival gang in town that we don’t have much backstory for, all because a character we’ve barely met really cares about another character we barely know. The corniness of the dialogue so far has been pretty hard to watch.

I enjoy the fight scenes in this anime. Nothing more and nothing less. I’m getting tired ... of the sappy sob stories they keep trying to throw in my face. I understand there needs to be some resemblance of a story to propel the action scenes, but in an anime where a city is threatened by gangs of middle/high schoolers with no parents in sight my disbelief is already high. There are WAY too many tears in episode three to accompany such a shallow story.

I can’t recommend this anime to anyone other than extreme anime fans who watch a ton. I would not recommend this to the casual anime fan who likes to watch the hottest shows of the season. I think this season is just okay so far. Very middle of the road.

I hope it gets better as I do enjoy the choreography and animation!

Man. What an absolute blast. I understand the issues those who don’t like Solo Leveling have with the show. The plot so far has mainly been a vehicle instead of a driver so to speak. It simply does just enough to allow the strengths of the show to really shine through. There are really three reasons to watch this show that can sum up where my enjoyment lies.

ANIMATION
The animation of each fight in season 2 scaled from very good to amazing (except maybe the Baran fight. The grey cloak with the added rain did make it hard to see what was happening at some ... points and IMO was the least aesthetically pleasing fight).

POWER FANTASY
Solo Leveling does a great job with one thing in this aspect: FUN. It is fun to watch Jinwoo exponentially grow stronger over the course of this season. He scales from a lower tier hunter to one of the best in the country and it is very satisfying to watch. No MC struggling or gaining power from anger or friendship, just the system helping him out!


And lastly AURA FARMING
Yes, as goofy as it sounds, the memes are true. Jinwoo is the ultimate badass and commands attention in very impactful scenes in this season. He was the highlight of an entire episode that he was only in for 3 seconds! He is fun to pull for and it never gets old watching him show up and save the day. He’s the polar opposite of Saitama. We get to see how everyone else is amazed by Jinwoo’s capabilities and it’s so cool.

I’d also like to add unlike isekai’s where the MC is teleported to another world and is super strong, Jineoo isn’t running around with 5 women at all times which is nice to see. There are women who admire him, but there are men in the show who admire him as well!

In my opinion, Solo Leveling isn’t some think piece anime in the likes of DevilMan Crybaby or Cyberpunk Edgerunners. It is pure fun. At the very least, you can turn your brain off and enjoy pulling for an MC that really takes on the role of the “I am strong and I know it” attitude.

Should you watch Wind Breaker? Yes… and no! Let me set some expectations for you. Do not expect a deep and unique story that you haven’t seen or read before because you will not find it in this anime. Wind Breaker is chock-full of cliches, stereotypes, and tropes.

The MC is one you’ve seen a dozen times. He is headstrong in his beliefs and always says the right things to impress and captivate those around him. His actions of always doing the right things but “because he wants to, not because he’s trying to help”, gets tiring pretty quick. Because the anime is in its ... first season we have yet to see any development and are only being shown the MC acts this way because that’s just how he is.

The side characters are just as vanilla as you would expect. There’s the quiet but ferocious one, the weak but compassionate, the leader who is a goofball but dead serious when it comes to his underlings, and any other trope you could think of. Don’t expect a cast of characters that are so well written they will stand out from other anime’s (even the art design is pretty standard).

The story is plain as well. Nothing groundbreaking. Good guys go to fight bad guys, bad guys get character development through flash backs, audience is supposed to “feel” for bad guys now.

With all this being said, if you enjoy well choreographed fights where the good guys win and justice prevails, you will get some enjoyment out of this anime. I would not recommend to someone who has only seen a hand-full of anime. But, if you are an avid anime fan and need something to fill the gap between shows you really enjoy, turn on Wind Breaker.

Overall I give it a 6.5/10 so far.
