Here’s my review of the various Death Note spin-offs and one-shots that expand on the original story. While some are fascinating extensions, others fall short, and here’s how I see them:
None of them are as good as the OG series obviously
and as stand alone a they’re not amazing however as ad ons to the amazing series they’re great
C-Kira Story: 6/10
This story attempts to carry on Light Yagami’s legacy through a new Death Note user, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark. While it’s interesting to see how Near reflects on Light’s influence and the world’s response to a new Kira, the story feels a bit
...
thin in comparison to the original. The new Kira’s approach lacks the same intellectual thrill, making this more of a tribute than a true continuation. Still, it’s an intriguing exploration of how different Death Note users approach power. I Reallt fw moments with ryuk
L: The Wammy’s House: 7/10
For fans of L, (i love L()this story offers a satisfying dive into his past, exploring his origins and how he was raised in the mysterious Wammy’s House. It gives some background on how L became the detective we know, and though it doesn’t have the intensity of the main Death Note series, it’s a nice piece for those curious about L’s development. It won’t blow your mind, but it adds valuable context to one of the most beloved characters in the series.
A-Kira Story: 9/10
This one-shot is definitely the standout among the Death Note spin-offs. Set in a modern world with new technologies, it brings back the tension and cleverness that made the original series great. Minoru Tanaka, the new DeatNote user, brings a fresh perspective on how to use the notebook in an increasingly digital world, and the stakes feel high again. The story builds in a very satisfying way, though the ending might frustrate some readers. Personally, I found it thrilling an fitting addition to the Death Note universe. HOWEVER the ending is really bs and kinda ruins a lot of it
Taro Kagami Story: 4/10
This one, unfortunately, is a bit of a letdown. The introduction of the "Death Eraser," which allows people to be brought back to life by erasing their names, feels like it breaks the core rule of the Death Note: once someone’s dead, they stay dead. It undermines the gravity of the notebook’s power and makes the story feel less grounded. The protagonist, Taro Kagami, and his quest for revenge against bullies don’t have the same depth as other Death Note users, leaving this story feeling more like a throwaway concept than a meaningful extension of the series.
Overall, while these stories offer varying degrees of satisfaction, A-Kira Story stands out as the most compelling, while Taro Kagami feels like a misstep in the Death Note universe.

Ashita no Joe (Tomorrow’s Joe) is a classic sports anime and manga that has left a lasting legacy, and it’s easy to see why. Here’s why I think it’s a solid 10/10 series:
Characters You Really Care About
The heart of Ashita no Joe is its characters. Joe Yabuki, the main character, starts off as a troubled, rebellious kid but grows into a determined boxer. His journey is full of personal struggles, highs, and lows that make him feel reaaal and relatable. The people around him, like his tough but caring coach Danpei and the talented yet tragic boxer Rikiishi, are just as well-developed, adding more layers
...
to the story.
Ther is also the GOAT Carlos rivera who was joes rivals at some point.
A Story That Grabs You
The storyline of Ashita no Joe is packed with emotion. It’s about perseverance, redemption, and the human spirit's ability to keep fighting. There are moments in Joe’s career—his wins, losses, and all the in-betweens—that hit hard and stay with you long after you’ve finished watching. Don’t forget this ISNT A SPORTS ANIME/MANGA
it’s a drama centered around boxing
A Gritty, Real World
Set in a rough, unforgiving world, the series doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of life. From the slums where Joe grows up to the brutal training and intense boxinng matches, everything feels grounded in reality. This grit makes Joe’s struggles feel even more meaningful.
Inspiring Themes;
More than just a boxing story, Ashita no Joe is about overcoming the odds and pushing through life’s challenges. Joe’s drive to be the best, despite the setbacks he faces, is inspiring. It’s a series that reminds you that hard work, determination, and not giving up are key to achieving your dreams.
A Trailblazer in Its Genre:
Ashita no Joe set the stage for many sports anime and manga that followed. Its focus on deeop character-driven stories in a sports setting influenced countless series that came after. Joe himself has become an iconic figure in anime, and his legacy live on in modern shows.
Striking Artwork and Animatio:
The manga’s art style is intense and expressive, capturing both the physicality of the boxing scenes and the emotional depthof the characters. The anime brings this to life with fluid animation, making the fights and character moments even more impactful.
Memorable Music
The soundtrack perfectly matches the tone of the series, amplifying both the emotional and action-packed moments. The opening and ending themez have become classics, cherished by fans.
Cultural Impact
Ashita no Joe holds a special place in Japanese culture. It came out during a time of significant change in Japan, and its themes of struggle and perseverance resonated with people. Its influence has even been seen in other shows, like a scene in Food Wars that pays homage to Joe’s iconic pose at the series’ end.
In short, Ashita no Joe is a masterpiece because of its rich characters, emotionally charged story, realistic world, and timeless themes. It’s a series that not only shaped the sports genre but continues to resonate with audiences today.

KONOSUBA
Hilariouss Comedy
Konosuba excels in its comedic elements. The series is a parody of the isekai genre, and it skillfully mocks many of the commonn tropes found in such stories. The humor is often slapstick, random and situational, and the interactionz between the main characters are a constant source of laughter. The best part of the series imo.
2. Unique and Lovable Characters
The main cast of Konosuba is unforgettabl. Each character has distinctive traits and flaws that make them stand out:
Kazuma Satou: The protagonist, who is far from the typical heroic figure. He is pragmatic, often lasy, and has a somewhat cynical outlook, which makes him relatable
...
and entertaing.
Aqua: The goddess of water who is incredibly powerful yet hilariously incompetent and vain. Her frequent blunders and selfish nature are pretty fun.
Megumin: A young mage obsessed with explosion magic. Her single-minded dedication to casting only one spell—Explosion—leads to both awe-inspiring and ridiculous situations. EXAPLOZZIANNNN
Darkness: A masochistic crusader with a noble heart but an odd fetish for pain. Her over-the-top speeches and self-sacrificial tendencies are very interesting… to watch
3. Engaging World-Building
While primarily a comedy, Konosuba does not neglect its world-building. With its many different villages etc. however it’s very mediocre work building
4. Subversion of Tropes
Konosuba stands out by subverting many of the typical isekai tropes. Instead of an overpowered hero, Kazuma is an everyman with limited skills. The series often plays with the expectations of the genre, creating fresh and unexpected scenarios. Imagine a modern human in a isekai. that’s who kazuma is
5. Great Animation and Art Style
The animation quality, especially in the comedic and action scenes, is impressive. Studio Deen did a ok job in bringing the vibrant and whimsical world of Konosuba to life. The character designs are memorable and expressive, which adds to the humor and charm.
6. Catchy Music
The opening and ending themes of Konosuba are catchy and well-loved by fans. The soundtrack complements the series' light-hearted and adventurous tone.
7. Heartwarming Moments
Despite its focus on comedy, Konosuba occasionally delves into more serious and heartfelt moments. These scenes add depth to the characters and their relationships, making the audience care more about their journey.
8. Cultural Impact
Konosuba has left a significant impact on the anime community. Its characters and quotes are widely recognized, and it has inspired numerous memes and fan creations. It even was part of isekai quartet which was a mcriss over of 4 isekai including konosuba
rezero, overlord and the BEING X series (the devil girl).
In summary, Konosuba is amazing because it masterfully combines humor, unique characters, engaging storytelling, and quality animation to create an experience that is both entertaining and memorable. It stands out in the crowded isekai genre by offering a refreshing and hilarious take on the typical fantasy adventure.
