This series got me to break out of my "shounen shell," setting me on an expedition of a lifetime, trying to find shows that would have the same emotional toll, and enjoyment that Darling in the FranXX brought me.
As for the story, I absolutely fell in love with it. It had some of the most emotional scenes i've seen in any sort of media, even bringing me to tears, after a certain realization between two characters. I think it was all executed perfectly, giving just the right amount of build up between important scenes, and giving you just enough to have that "OH" moment.
...
I can see why many people hated the ending, but i personally didn't mind it, understanding they only had a certain number of episodes to wrap things up, though comes in the form of the manga that is currently being published, which is said to have major divergents from the anime.
The characters are some of the most memorable I've ever seen, with the battle of best girl, going "narrowly" to everyone's favorite sadistic dino girl looking for her prince charming. They are characters you can relate too, with even the supporting characters getting major development and investment.
The art is great as well, with smooth animation being a consistency, complimenting the wonderful art.
For the enjoyment, I enjoyed just about every episode, not being able to put the show down, wondering what was coming next.
Overall, this great mecha romance gets a solid 9.3/10
