Soul Eater was one of the first anime I've ever watched and to be honest if I had written this reviwe and rated the anime 6 years ago I definitely would have rated it a lot higher.
But why am I only giving it a 6 out of 10 when i enjoyed watching it so much?
Simple answer, I've read the manga after watching the anime.
The Soul Eater anime did something a lot of anime based on manga did back then. At one point the show started drifting away from the manga and began to make up its own story. And that seems to never really work ... out.
I love the manga more than anythng but man, what the hell even is the end of the anime? It's all over the place!
The characters are still good, the music is nice and the art style is very unique, but they just left out so many good Arc, plot points and characters by not following the manga. It really is a shame.

I went into the show with absolutely zero knowledge of the game(s) and still was able to enjoy it quite a lot.
Some of the visuals are really pretty and the music slaps. The characters, especially Alcor, are what really made the show. The relationship between Alcor, Hibiki and Yamato is what especially stood out to me.
The supportive characters are alright as well, not super amazing but also not extremely annoying.
I also really really enjoyed the ending of the show. In general I'd say that the show gets better as the episodes go on and the story progresses.
Also, yes, it does show similarities to Evangelion but ... it is still very, very much different from it.
Over all I'd say that the anime is indeed no master piece BUT in my opinion very well suited for a casual watch.
