Yet another isekai, a genre that I'm sure many of us are sick of at this point. Initially, I had skipped over this one without a second thought, until it was recommended to me. I'm glad it was though, because Healing Magic did just enough to set itself apart from the run of the mill isekai, along with not falling into some of the typical pitfalls that prevent so many isekai in this genre from being better than "meh".
The opening episode is exactly what you'd expect, they're just walking along and suddenly a portal opens up and they've been isekai'd. It doesn't add or remove
...
anything from the story, the main reason it seems the story was set up this way was for humor and the training sequence over the next few episodes. What is interesting though is that if you ignore the generic isekai elements, the fantasy aspect of the world is pretty well done. If you like this sort of setting you'll find a lot to enjoy here; the human kingdom, the demon lord's army, you got some other scattered races like beastkin, goblinish people, etc.
Another thing I really appreciated is that the characters aren't "reborn" as the most gifted, overpowered, unstoppable beings in the realm. Sure, they are summoned as heroes and for reasons that are never actually explained they're instantly more powerful than basically any knight or whatever in the human army, but it's not egregious and you can live with it. The three main characters also have different outlooks on being isekai'd which is refreshing, you are provided all different perspectives throughout the series. As a side note, the teacher/student relationship between Rose and Usato was really enjoyable. It's contentious, but built on mutual respect, and provides a lot of laughs.
In the introduction I mentioned that the series avoids some of the pitfalls that can ruin other isekai. While I enjoy fanservice, ecchi, etc, a break from it at times is nice. Healing Magic has no fanservice or ecchi to speak of, the closest thing to it is the President can be obnoxiously horny at times, but she isn't always around so it's easy to ignore. Usato also doesn't have a harem either, so there's none of that chick fighting over the MC that you'll see in basically every isekai ever.
The only thing I could really take away from Healing Magic is that it doesn't do anything new. It does a solid job of presenting the enjoyable aspects of isekai while avoiding most of the annoying parts. It's generic, though not too generic, and that isn't always a bad thing. I'm glad I decided to watch this one, hopefully we get a second season.

Tomozaki is a strange series in a way; a lot of anime are about an outcast character like Tomozaki doing absolutely nothing to change and just magically becoming popular. It's strange yet refreshing that Tomozaki has to make an effort to improve as a person to get out of his funk, but the first season of Tomozaki missed the mark in a lot of ways. It was just barely decent enough to get me to watch the second season, which turned out to be a significant improvement over the first.
The second season is essentially split into two parts. The first part is definitely the
...
weak aspect of the second season. It's focused on the most insignificant person out of the main friend group/supporting characters. That was a pretty questionable decision by the author in my opinion, but the second half more than made up for it. What I thought the first season was sorely missing was romance; it was basically "cut your hair, stand up straight, now you have friends". That's what the second half of the second season is about, and it's easily the best part of Tomozaki to date. All the girls are great to the point where I had trouble knowing who to root for.
One thing that really stood out to me over the course of this season though was that every character got a decent amount of development. That isn't something you really see in a lot of anime... in a lot of anime it's rare for anyone other than the main characters to get any development, if that. It was nice to be able to see the entire cast grow, and really made you feel more attached to everything going on in the show. They have the dime a dozen school festival arc during this season, and surprisingly I was actually interested in what was happening because it was just the author's excuse to put all the girls into a maid outfit.
So in conclusion, if you watched the first season and felt on the fence about the second season, I recommend it. At the very least it's worth giving a shot, even if the first half of the season might potentially put you off. Hopefully we get some more Tomozaki in the future because I genuinely want to see where these characters go. I give it a soft 8/10.

Kanaten on the surface seems like it might be just another generic romcom. After all, it is obviously based on the centuries old template of Romeo and Juliet, with the forbidden love of enemies, an Angel and Demon, falling for one another, and with the initial reaction to this anime I was concerned the adaptation had been massively screwed up. Having been following the manga this is based on for nearly five years, I can safely say that isn't the case. This adaptation kicks ass and greatly exceeds my expectations.
The most simple description of Kanaten would be a romantic comedy with action elements. The romance
...
aspect is great; Akutsu and Lily have fantastic on screen chemistry that grows very naturally feeling. No step of their relationship feels forced. The comedy is top notch, think Cromartie High School with a mix of the competitiveness between the leads like in Kaguya: Love is War. The fight scenes, which are Angels vs Demons in nature, are much better than any RomCom has any business being.
As for the adaptation aspect, all the characters look and sound great. The studio did an amazing job bringing the manga to life. The jokes translated so much better from the manga than I thought they would. Animation wise it's REALLY good for a RomCom, I was actually surprised and impressed with a lot of the scenes. All of the voice actors really nailed their roles; everyone sounded great for the characters they were playing.
All in all, Kanaten is in my opinion, the best romantic comedy anime to come out in years, and judging by the current score is extremely underrated. If you like romance, anime humor, some action scenes, this will give you the fix you're looking for. I hope you'll give it a shot. My personal score as a longtime fan is a 9/10, but even someone new to the series will find plenty to enjoy.

The most simple way I could sum up my viewing experience with Atasha Kawashiri is that, at least in the format presented, it has no reason to exist. Every episode starts with a 90 second OP, following by one minute of the actual anime. This might even be an acceptable format, if not for how hideous the show is once you get past a deceptively decent looking intro. As for the content of AtaKawa, every episode is just her daily NEET-esque life of getting drunk, eating junk food, and otherwise being a disgusting slob. That isn't to say even this is unappealing, there are characters
...
like Tomoko and Gabriel who are really popular and are similar characters, but there are more to them than there is to Kawashiri. If I had to find something which was supposed to be the "hook" of the show, it's the attempt to present mundane daily life in a humorous way. I chuckled here and there, but a lot of the observational humor fell flat, even aspects I could relate to. I tried to find some of the manga to read online to see if that was funny and it was just a poor adaptation (which it almost certainly is, if even just from an animation standpoint), but alas, I could not.
Circling back to my original thought, there is no reason for this anime to exist in the form it was presented. Throughout the season, there are 24 total minutes of content, so why couldn't the money be found to create a decent one episode special? The world may never know... or care, to be honest.
