This series was an interesting experience. While the plot was nothing special, it's interesting to see a world in which both the protagonist and the people they're fighting are morally corrupt.

What I enjoyed most was the food for thought. It was fun to contemplate how violence affects people, and who is deserving of what and who is innocent. However, the series only presented these themes, and did not explore it properly. Perhaps this could have been achieved had the protagonist actually face problems, and not simply just solve every problem presented. Likewise, their character arc was... weak.

Obviously the most infamous part of this anime ... was the revenge scenes. Yes, they were brutal, and f*cked up, but that was the whole point. What happened was simply the result of a destroyed moral compass, so if you don't like that kind of thing then this series is just not for you. They were creative, but, again, as the series progressed they got increasingly creative while the whole anime descended into trash tier. If felt less and less like an exploration of morality and more like an edgy hentai, I suppose.

Another confusing area of this anime is the girls. They suffer from same-face syndrome (which is rather ironic, if you know what I mean), and they all blindly adore Kaguya. Sometimes it felt frightening to see them blindly love and be manipulated by him, and you genuinely feared for them a times. But, at the same time, they were all so happy and adorable and... I'm very confused. Perhaps I'm the morally corrupt one here.

Finally, the music was A-tier. The soundtrack is mainly symphonic metal, which is an underrated genre I love. Meanwhile, the ending song was an absolute banger.

So, over all, this is trash, but salvageable trash. It made me ask questions, but at the end of the day it's still your generic edgy fantasy anime with a clumsy plot and poorly developed characters.

The story is okay, I suppose. It's interesting enough that I'm tempted to check out the manga. However, this experience has taught me how important basic animation is for executing a show. Everything about it was either too out of whack to interpret properly or it was so abominable you just burst out laughing.
There were too likeable things about this show: the voice acting was good, and I would unironically jam to the soundtrack while doing homework or something. Also, the girls would have been likeable HAD THE ANIMATORS SHOWN THEM A GRAIN ... OF RESPECT.
Furthermore, the pacing of this show is... not the best. It could have ended on episode 11, but then episode 12 happened for some reason. Like... why wasn't it brought in earlier? Why was all of that jammed into just 20 minutes? But, hey, I think DitF has a wonderfully crafted ending now so that's nice I guess.
I would rate this a 3 for the three things that were remotely likeable, but, as a writer, I can't imagine the sheer disappointment the mangaka must feel at the mere existence of this atrocity so a 3 would just be too generous. Unless you're in a phase where you randomly decide to do things ironically, there's no way to enjoy this. Even if you were drunk, you would miss all the subtitles and still just cringe at copyright-free explosion and smoke effects dotting the screen each episode. I reckon this could have has a fighting chance had it been made by a studio like Trigger or Madhouse, or something. It still wouldn't have been the next Eva, but it might have been enjoyable.
