***This review contains minor spoilers for this season***
Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc, is the perfect comparison of having a yin and yang, heaven and hell in one anime. Both represent the good and bad of Demon Slayer.
Demon Slayer: Entertainment District Arc or Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen demonstrates a new high and low of the demon slayer series. This season showcases the troubling events and aftermath of the Mugen Train incident as Tanjiro is determined to push forward and become stronger. However, there is a vicious demon terrorizing the women of the Yoshiwara Entertainment District. Stumbling across The Sound Pillar, Tengen Uzui, and his three wives
...
are already on the case. However Tengen loses contact with his spouses, he enlists Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke to infiltrate the district to locate the deadly Upper-Rank Demon.
The plot of Entertainment District Arc… Possibly one of the worst written boring stories that have ever graced anime. I am a virgin tongue and there might be some worst story plots or stories. However back to the point, the entire plot is based around the three wives for most if not half of the season. Sure there might be some justification for how this builds up tension for the plot. It still does not make sense to me how boring this part of the season is. This truly is a new low of Demon Slayer, especially after the very fast-paced movie of Mugen Train. Yeah, you could argue that this was a series and not a movie but past that point, it is just plain boring with nothing to add other than revealing more about Tanjiro’s unique breath.
The characters are really the same other than the introduction of Chad Man Uzui Tengen and the indirect introduction of Tanjiro, Inosuke and Nezuko being Uzui’s three wives. They look so similar… Past that point, the characters have not really changed compared to the other parts of the demon slayer. There is a silly aspect to how these characters interact with each other. It is just outright absurd, however, there are some ‘decent’ parts to these characters, especially Zenitsu Chad's Transformation later in the series. However, Tengen’s THREE wives are there just for fan service and to add an actual plot to Demon Slayer.
Now past the horrible parts, we are now onto the highest of Demon Slayer (arguable but in my opinion, it is the best thing I have ever seen. Reminder that I am a virgin in Anime). The Art, where do I begin. The art of Demon Slayer has obviously been a breathtaking experience to witness and watch. This season is no exception. The fantastic art is all thanks to Ufotable. As a manga reader, I can proudly say that past the story, they have done an exceptional job in bringing justice to the manga. Any bit of fight scene whether it was big or little was nothing more of a majestic piece being weaved by the angels of God.
The music compliments the art just as well. Without the music, these scenes will be decent and lifeless. The music brings tension to the fights. Something exhilarating, fast-paced and beautiful. It is great. All I can say is that the OSTs goes really well with most of the season. Like two peas in a pod. The opening is a banger and worth every time to watch it. The ending is alright nothing too special.
The verdict of this season is an 8/10. Yes, I know that the story is an absolute boring mess, HOWEVER that does not pass the point that I believe that Ufotable has done a miraculous job in the art department and is worth some praise. If I would recommend it to you I would simply just say “Don’t watch demon slayer for the plot, watch it for the art.”
Thanks for reading my first review :> any tips or comments would be much appreciated.
