The Princess of Convenient Plot Devices has a surprising amount of conflict, easy to understand world building. There's a lot of BL scenes (note here that I said "BL scenes" and not "BL") and as a fellow sapien, I'm glad the homies get to kiss and hold hands in this fantasy world. The manga is self aware but not in a obnoxious fourth wall breaking way. It can be read and enjoyed even if you have no idea about how BLs are like.

Background art could look better. Additionally, for a manga that is so open about the men loving each other, the main cast seems ... to be a little too straight. I was also not very comfortable with how androgynous men (not sure what the right term is) had internalized their place in this world. Perhaps it is social commentary on how women are treated in real life and how that could be affecting the way we view LGTV people. Subtlety is not this manga's strong suit though so I'm probably just overthinking it. There is no overt dehumanization and the manga can be tender and intimate when it want to be so.

Strongly recommend this one for people looking for another slightly absurd mystery comedy fantasy otome isekai to binge on as long as you do not mind the BL. If you are here for that last bit, there's not much of it but the story manages to successfully blend the premise into the plot itself so do give this manga a chance to make you smile.

Maydare Tensei is not a fun manga to read but it also does not demand readers to retain much. The manga borrows alot of well known isekai tropes just to use them in a subpar manner.

A half hearted attempt is made to portray Makia as a misunderstood villainess for about a chapter or so. A setup confrontation takes place between Makia and the supposed heroine's entourage but the fallout from said event is non existent. There are others but I've got the most beef with this one.

Unique spells are introduced that defy the magic system's rock paper scissor rules. There is no information on affinity ... distribution and rarity in the classrooms. The spells simply exist as contrived solutions in the plot. It's either a spell that stops the bad guys or a spell that identifies the bad guys. They are not earned nor is deduction in this story substantiated enough to confirm suspicions that other characters might have. Hearsay is accepted at face value by not just fellow students but also adults of considerable authority.

Glimpses about the scarlet witch simply exist to explain the tools and abilities that the protagonist inherits. Parallels are drawn between her and Makia that made me realise that the scarlet witch would have been a far more interesting protagonist.

What's frustrating about this manga is that there is a entertaining story that could've been told without changing the building blocks if they had been assembled with more care. It has far too much setup and not enough payoff. The artwork does improve but there are noticeable persistent stylistic inconsistencies most likely due to time constraints that could have been avoided had the manga illustrator/s chosen less intricate redesigns. The primary concept of retaining memories after being reincarnated multiple times feels mundane not because of how prevalent it is but because their memories seem to hold a mere superficial influence on the world they live in.

Would not recommend this one if you're already familiar with popular otome and transference isekais out there.

This review does not contain any comparisons with the LN nor for that matter the anime adaption (the consensus on the latter seems to be that it was poorly made and not well received). After catching up with the manga, I did not feel the urge to read the LN series but I am looking forward to what lies ahead. The score may drop further at most to a six out of ten if the writing falters.

The artwork in Yarinaoshi Reijou wa Ryuutei Heika wo Kouryakuchuu is alright (no unintentional anatomical absurdities as far as I could tell) and the content is translated quite well ... in English. One could call it somewhat of a light read. The manga establishes early on that the specific age gap in question is not socially acceptable through both side characters and the involved parties. Could the ML's interactions with the FL be interpreted as grooming? I could not decide on a definite yes or no. Children are treated as they ought to be most of the time. The FL is undeniably a child soldier but the manga manages to tip toe around the exploitative implications by making her both a a prodigious exception and a regression protagonist. Character personalities are funny, bombastic, and comforting enough to make you forget about how creepy certain scenes could've been had the manga not provided enough information. Is the setting believable? No not really but the jovial main cast make up for it.

The plot does nothing groundbreaking with the regression element of the story. Besides the ML, the characters go through almost no development and that's okay. The plot twist mustache twirling villains have plans that make sense and the odds are usually against the main cast even if they are a tad bit overpowered. World building is not fed through gigantic wall of texts so that's nice and places mentioned seem somewhat distinct from each other through both artwork and power dynamics at play but appropriate amount of time is not given to them for proper immersion.

Lastly, Slice of life sections are rewarding even if they are not very original. The same can be said for the characters that are explored. Oh ummm... there might also be an edgy star wars prequel reference? I would recommend checking out the first few chapters if you are looking for a fluffy power fantasy regression manga that tickles your funny bone (mostly through slapstick).
