As someone who got into the franchise a few weeks before Neo’s reveal trailer, I honestly enjoyed this adaptation. Certain moments felt like DLC, such as expanding the original game cutscenes and providing special anime-exclusive scenes. It was even the introduction to the franchise for some of my friends and they enjoyed it as a standalone series.

One of the aspects I like is how certain moments between Neku and Shiki are fleshed out. While there were some story elements that I wish were covered, I do like the new moments that we got. One of those moments was their reunion at Hachiko. Instead of brief ... scenes during the credits, we got both Neku and Shiki properly reintroducing themselves and shaking hands. There was even a moment when Neku smiled softly at Shiki, something we didn’t get due to limited sprite animation.

Overall, this is perfect for anyone who wants to get into TWEWY, but don’t have the time to sit down and play the original game.
