WARNING, IT HAS SPOILERS. The review is a incomplete compilation of my thoughts about the manhwa, and it's mostly focus on season 1-2 :D
The story focuses on Korea in an apocalyptic state, where many cities were destroyed, many survivors becoming unstable with cannibalistic tendencies or if not less sadistic. The concept of people turning into cannibalistic wild animals isn’t a bad idea, but the way it was used that idea is where the complaint comes from on my part; In the manhwa, nothing has been mentioned or seen that could justify their activities, it is not as if the series gave an explanation to the
...
readers to help them better understand the progress that these characters had, perhaps an exception was their cannibalistic tendencies, due to the lack of resource that had inside the hole. But it’s a "perhaps" because in season 1 and episode 7, when Heyool went in search of first-aid to treat Haneul's wound, has been shown how these cannibals continue to eat human flesh even with the presence of wild dogs/insect and of canned foods: human bones were seen surrounding the pot they use for cooking and no traces of other animals; Furthermore, when one of them entered Heyool's lair, he prioritized the attempt to kill her than the resources found in that room.
Guess those wild people before were normal and ordinary people who had a drastic change because of the hole, but neither the protagonists and some secondary characters had that drastic switch, they still remained themselves even after surviving in the hole and returning to the surface; Unlike cannibals, in addition to not having any problem killing and eating humans, they also seem to only live off by instincts as if they were wild animals, as seen with their behaviors or when the main characters were attacked by them: season 1 and episode 3, season 1 and episode 7, season 1 and episode 8, season 1 and episode 9, or season 2 and episode 2. Giving the impression of that idea being used in a not so elaborate way due to the lack of explanation that there is about the drastic changes those characters had.
The constant use of going back to the past to explain certain situations helps to give context to some future situations, since there are events or topics where they cannot be explained without the use of flashbacks. An example would be the way Heyool was revived from the dead several times after being shot or killed by someone, but for the flashback focused on her, the meeting between her and Haneul on the stairs (season 2 and episode 16) could have ended more in a confusion rather than in a comforting moment; Going back to the past helps readers to better understand their high chance of survival due to the Reagent, when Haneul's father took care of her after dealing with the crazy couple in the hospital. Another example would be when it was explained how Haneul woke up "for the first time" after 2 months since the apocalyptic event, he mentioned about one of the effects of the Reagent being memory loss in season 2 and episode 16, something that has previously been seen to happen with Haneul: when he couldn’t remember who he was or what his name was (season 1 and episode 9) and then remember his name (season 1 and episode 15), same circumstance when he had temporarily forgotten about his current situation during season 2 and episode 3; explaining how Haneul woke up 2 months after the incident. Or helping to find out the reason that Haneul and Heyool were chasing Lee during his tours with his group of cannibals, giving the context in season 4 and episode 24 to help clarify the intentions behind the actions of these 2 teenagers.
In addition to solving some unanswered questions, it also gave development to the main characters: knowing more about their pasts, the before and after in the relationships with the people from their surroundings. Readers benefiting from flashbacks by helping them learn more about the characters before the current reality, for example: knowing Heyool's school lifestyle, being quite academic; the good and bad relationships with her classmates and her changes compared to the future, or showing the contrast in her way of thinking about her mother before and after the event; A similar story with Haneul, although not much of his school life has been seen, his cold demeanor with his father took a different path after the apocalypse. Although there are some flashbacks that doesn’t seem to be as relevant compared to others, visualizing the events of the past is a better option than letting the characters talk about the event; In season 2 and episode 11, it wasn’t necessary for them to teach the origin of the baby’s seizures and health problems, that could have been done in only dialogues but that wouldn’t have been so convincing without the visualizations.
There was a moment in the manhwa where it told 2 stories simultaneously, referring to when the protagonists had their respective focuses in the story: Haneul in search of Heyool, and Heyool's past. Initially it seemed that these 2 events were connected because: he saw a silhouette similar to her through the camera (season 2 and episode 8), he thought the voice he heard was hers, the shape of the panels being organized that made it seem as if the events were connected (season 2 and episode 11), or she heard someone calling her while he was calling her (season 2 and episode 12); But as the episodes went by, that connection began to be doubted and creating confusion due to the appearances of Heyool's deceased friends in season 2 and episode 11, and then readers realizing that these 2 events weren’t situated on the same timeline, also Haneul mentioned the gorilla seemed to be dead for a while and the clocks didn't match (season 2 and episode 10), along with his other mentions of Bitnara's sister and the doctor's body (season 2 and episodes 11-12). Creating confusion by the appearances of some characters, although perhaps that is the intention of the authors.
The manhwa has a setting that can attract the attention of readers, but there are some concepts that may not fit well in world building, or that seem contradictory to other concepts. In season 1 and episode 15, the officers are ordered to kill the remaining survivors of the area where the protagonists were, but then later it was mentioned the government was looking for someone with the tardigrade gene in season 3 and episode 9, giving the impression of being somewhat contradictory when establishing conflicting ideas due to how strange the setting is. In addition to that inside the hole, there were also similar situations where concepts could contradict each other: it’s not explained how there is an area with stored water located right next to the lava river, as can be seen in season 1 and episode 15; and if there is an explanation, then guess that Haneul being boiling in the water would have been part of the explanation because the water was really close to the lava; It’s also not known how Heyool managed to get Haneul out of that small crack, although it looked like somehow the crack was able to expand enough to get him out of there.
Other strange thoughts, although not necessarily a contradiction, it’s about the tigers and other wild animals roaming the areas. If those tigers were already there from the beginning based on the containers that were appearing in the flashbacks, how come the officers didn't notice them until when they were attacked? As if they were not aware of the animals roaming in those areas based on their reactions when they were attacked, although it may seem like an out of place situation since the government itself was the one who did that in the first place, perhaps that can be justified by saying only the people who asked for that order were the only ones who knew about it; initially being an event that came out of nowhere, although it did have a foreshadowing during the Heyool flashbacks (season 1 and episode 13) and Hanel’s flashback (season 3 and episode 14). Another doubt created by strange situations was during season 2 and episode 3, Haneul somehow managing to defeat a group of cannibals armed with knives with just using his fists can gives a strange sensation about the character; not too long ago he couldn't physically outmaneuver the cannibal with the chainsaw and if he couldn't do that in season 1 and episodes 3-4, how is it that he was able to defeat an entire group of them? Besides that he recently survived from a shot, perhaps he was still recovering from the shot, unless his wound has instantly regenerated like that time with the bar stuck in his torso; although perhaps that can be justified, maybe him gaining a greater strength might have been because of his superhuman abilities that he obtained due to the tardigrade gene.
It gets kind of repetitive about Haneul and Heyool having multiple fake kills in such a short time. In just the entire 15 episodes of the first season, Hanuel "died" about 2 times: when he was nailed by the tube (episode 6), and the supposed fall in the lava (episode 12); while Heyool having 1 "death": when Haneul believed she died upon seeing a corpse wearing the same uniform as her; then in the second season, the fake deaths became less frequent but they were still there: Haneul being shot in the torso of her (episode 15), and Heyool also being shot in the same episode. Making their future deaths or them being in dangerous situations not causing as much impact as in the beginning of the first season due to the constant use of that idea, in addition to also including the protagonists’ manifestations of their superhuman abilities during seasons 1 and 2.
Another curiosity is: in season 2 and episode 4, how is it that Bitnara wasn’t attacked by the gorilla but then she was attacked when she was reunited with Heyool? In season 2 and episode 8 demonstrated the animal’s aggressive behavior, where it tries to destroy anything it detects in it’s sight but that did not happen during its first appearance, although that can be explained by saying the cause was because Bitnara was speaking, as seen when she and Heyool were attacked by the animal after talking; But the gorilla should have still attacked Bitnara during its first appearance, the animal was right behind her when she was using the cell phone’s flashlight, and not only because of that but the gorilla seemed to be able to see in the dark because it could locate Heyool like in season 2 and episode 9. In season 2 and episode 12, it was somewhat rare that Bitnara developed a mentality similar to those doctors seeking a heart for their baby, she also wanted to seek a heart after her sister died, but she should already know at that age that her younger sister couldn’t be revived just by replacing her heart with someone else's. Or in season 1 and episode 10, how come the tiger survived in that place for 2 months? The area where it was locked up didn’t seem to have any type of food that would have helped the tiger survive those months, in addition to the fact that the door was locked and could not be opened without the code as it was shown in that same episode, and the only path that seemed to connect with the gate was the destroyed bridge, which may explain how the tiger got to that place by saying that it jumped off the bridge and onto the steep slope, but it doesn’t explain how the tiger handled the sulfur.

At first glance it seems like a fantasy story with many types of magic and creatures, where non-human protagonist knows and falls in love with human protagonist, they become happy, and they have a sad ending. But Mari Okada, director and writer of Maquia, decided to take the cliché to a more personal love course. A motherly love Being a film mostly focused on the perspective of the protagonist Maquia, where we can see what it is for her to be a mother. A film that could bring a tsunami of memories to many people who had a similar experience to the protagonists or bring
...
a feeling of disappointment. Being a film of almost 2 hours, the film had enough time to make the protagonists feel human and understandable, along with a cast of secondary characters mostly not relevant to the story but pleasant to see them, only for few of them.
Introducing the protagonist, Maquia, a character who has changed a lot due to the events in the movie. Starting with a protagonist creating a cloth named: Hibiol, which can transmit stories, experiences, and emotions in it, to a protagonist leaving her homeland, she was a person limited and molded by fear and loneliness to a Maquia who had to force herself to be an example to others. From its beginnings in the world of humans until the last visit of his son. As the story focuses on the theme of the mother, it seems that Maquia's changes were going towards that route.
She is a girl who suffered a tragic event at an early age, during the shock, found and picked up a homeless baby to see that the child was in his similar situation; she living with the thought that her people were in the process of extinction and the baby who did not have the opportunity to have a memory with her parents. As Maquia was still young, she had no experience in knowing how to care for a baby, although she already had the attitude of knowing it like, being protective, affectionate, and grateful to the baby.
After considering the baby as her and before naming Ariel to the baby, because of the age of Maquia, it made Mido doubt about the custody of the baby. Mido is a single mother that the young girl found during her first steps out of her bubble. The mother doubtful of the skills of Maquia, extended her hands towards the direction of the baby as if she were telling her that she knows better taking care of the little Ariel than the young mother. Maquia, with a quick reaction, rejected Mido's proposal for the love she had established with the child and also for being an unknown for, obviously, not yet having the confidence to leave the baby in her hands.
When Ariel was already a child who no longer needed some basic cares (feeding or bathing), Maquia was going through a stage of desperation to choose whether or not to take Ariel on her journey to see Leilia, being aware of the difficulties of being in an unknown place and having a child in her care. In the end, she did decided to go with the child. During the trip, Maquia was involved in a plan to rescue Leilia, which ended badly, when she met up with Krim by coincidence. After failing the plan, she could not return with Mido possibly due to lack of money, she had no choice but to go to different places to get a temporary job and a temporary house since Maquia was an unusual person. And yet, Maquia was still a loving and worried person towards Ariel, but with the plus of having a stronger mentality learned from Mido, regardless of the things he did during his teenage years.
While Maquia remained the same, his son had already become an adult and with a family, he was already aware of the things he has done to her in the past and wanted an apology for his mistakes. Maquia, with a quick nod, did not forgive him but thanked him. “When I am with you, all the sad and painful things ... they all subside.” Her love for Ariel was so strong that she was able to smile in the face of fear and destiny, freeing her and being able to fly freely, because since she considered Ariel as her son, her Hibiol, she stopped feeling alone because she could record the feelings she had with her son in her memory. Amiability. Force. Despair. The feeling of loving someone. Ariel is his main source of happiness, resembling sun and earth, being the main source of life and energy. Remembering Maquia's phrase: "Smells like the sun." Referring that he is her world because the only thing that Maquia can think about is her son.
Ariel is a main character that we had the opportunity to see his beginnings until his end. During the movie, he is the character with the most attitude changes in the entire cast of characters throughout the film. In his childhood, we saw that he was an innocent, curious, and energetic boy. During his teens he was a spoiled and impotent boy who acts without thinking. Already when he was an adult, he was more mature and regretted the things he has done in his past. And as an old man, in his last moments, he showed his mother an expression of having no remorse. Establishing Ariel as a realistic character, but also unnatural because of the use of time-skips.
Being a fantasy world with a protagonist who have the promise to protect his mother, the base of the story can be compared to the highly acclaimed: The Hero's Journey. A structure initially designed for adventure stories such as the classic "Star Wars", "Indiana Jones", or "Harry Potter" movies. But this time, with a touch of slice of life in it. The cycle has different steps on it:
• The call to adventure - leaving the country, when Maquia decided to take Ariel with her on her trip to Leilia.
• Supernatural aid - the desire to want to protect his mother, whose desire was implanted by Krim by asking only 2 questions: “Can you protect them? The things that you treasure the most? ”After they failed the rescue plan.
• Threshold (the beginning of a transformation) - During the film they did not show the beginning of their change but what it was transformed into. Ariel become a more isolated son with his mother, who acts like a spoiled boy for feeling helpless and also acting before thinking. Why impotent? Since Ariel made the promise to his mother, all he could do was watch at her while the others had the freedom to interact with her. For example, after the second time-skip, we could see Maquia as a waitress in a restaurant where there are usually workers in a weapon factory, just when the movie introduced Ariel as a teenager, there was a scene where one of those workers touched her Maquia’s butt. And what did Ariel do? Nothing. He just sat and looked the other way, while listening his coworkers talked about rumors about his mother, for not feeling confident enough in his physical strength, in how to be a man.
• Challenges and temptations - his impotence can count as a challenge, while temptation would be the time when his coworkers persuaded Ariel to consume alcohol with the excuse that it will make him a man to drink it, something he wants to be.
• Abyss (death and rebirth) - it is not necessary to be literally a death, it can also be something that could negatively affect the character. In this case it would be to get home drunk and tell his mother that he does not consider Maquia as his mother, causing a collapse of the emotional state of Maquia and more isolation for Ariel. The rebirth would be the desperation of wanting to be a knight to be a true man who can protect his mother.
• Transformation - it’s after the timeskip, when Ariel became a knight along with a wife in the final stage of pregnancy, during the adult phase of the child who ceased to be.
• Atonement - when Ariel meets again with her mother for the penultimate time, after they lost the battle against another kingdoms, he apologized for the things he has done to her mother in the past to purge of his sins and not feel guilty for the rest of his life.
• Return - it is when Ariel returning to Mido's house and starting a new life.
The secondary characters. Although most of them only appeared very rarely, a few of them could have stayed in the minds of several people. Mido is a good example of it, she is the other perspective of being a mother. Being a certainly relevant character when Ariel was a baby until when he was a kid, becoming a figure of an older sister to Maquia and being the one who has taught her how to be a mother, which is to maintain a strong mentality so that in the future they can teach it to their children how to have a strong mentality in difficult times.
Mother to son, the next one is Lang. He is a character who tried to be something for Maquia, but it was impossible because of her fear of losing someone. Lang could not be someone close, but yes as an emotional support for Maquia. Since when she couldn't stand the dog's death, Lang was with her, even being with her when an entire kingdom was looking for a Lorph.
Izor, being a character who is blamed for murdering legends, he had no choice but to be loyal to his king and fulfill his orders. There were a scene, when the King ordered to find another Lorph for his son and all he could do was tilt his head down with an expression of guilt on his face, he felt so guilty that he even asked Leilia to punish her. He had the potential to further develop to a much better character, but during the other second half of the film, he sadly stopped being important to the film.
Leilia, a character who seemed to be a close friend to Maquia, she had a curious parallel with the protagonist. Both of them had a baby, Maquia a boy, Leilia a girl, Maquia was able to take care of the baby for herself, Leilia no, Maquia is free, Leilia no, Maquia has friends to lean on, Leilia does not. Having so many parallels, we as the audience, Leilia’s story that was missing could possibly be completed based on her other parallel, Maquia. Now we can expect what Leilia have experimented throughout her life prisoned by just filling the gap and credited ourselves for it, and not the movie.
The use of time-skip in the movie is not random, each timeskip shows a different stage of Ariel and the progression of Maquia's relationship with her son. Although it only shows the minimum, limiting too much in just the essentials in each phase and not a more complete relationship, that may caused a disappointment to some of the audience for the expectation they had. The first time-skip showed Ariel's childhood, having a funny and funny relationship. While in the second time-skip demonstrated Ariel's most rebellious stage and a more isolated and toxic relationship. Then the third timeskip of the son already as an adult, having a healthier relationship. And the last time-skip, in his last moments without any regret of having had Maquia as his mother.
It would have been better if it were a serie, instead of a movie, because that way it could have developed and shown more of the relationship of Maquia and Ariel as mother and son, forming a more complex connection that is not only: he is your son and she is your mother. Explore some elements that have not yet been squeezed enough. Examples would be, Ariel having to deal with his coworkers for pretending about his mother being his sister. It would have been more interesting to show more how Ariel's co-workers can doubt about his relationship with his mother for being aware that him and his mother are not blood related. Also, show more of the difficulties that Maquia had to face as a mother during the different phases of the film. Thus creating a stronger and more credible connection between mother and son.
The use of time-skip was not bad because it was useful to advance the previous stage to the next stages, but it was also not good to use so many time-skips in such a short time, giving the audience the feeling that the film felt rushed. The events had to be compressed enough to fit in an animation of almost 2 hours, leaving with several plot holes of different sizes in the story:
• How did the knights knew the location of the Lorph?
• Why did the King order to capture only 1 Lorph and slaughtered the rest? It would have been more beneficial if the king had left the others captive.
• How is it that Krim and others Lorph survived the massacre?
• Why did they keep Leilia captive in a room that has a window in it? It would have been much better if they left her locked in a windowless room so that Krim and the others had a more difficult time to develop another rescue plan. Something that happened in the movie, but failed.
• Why couldn't Leilia's daughter inherit her mother's longevity?
• Who is Barow? How could he know where Maquia and Leilia were during the rescue plan? He had connections with Leilia?
• What did Maquia do to convince the dragon to fly again at the end of the movie?
Maquia is a film that is easy to be overrated because of how simple the audience can empathize with the protagonist and forget the rest, seeing how everything that Maquia and Ariel have experienced different emotions during the story can instantly give a “that happened the same thing with me ”, perhaps causing a blur in the other perfections and flaws that has in the film and wanting to see more of “that happened the same with me”. The film having an excellent animation, with a good change of maturity on the part of the protagonists, along with an unbalanced but with purpose of the use of time-skip, made it quite enjoyable and direct, although leaving arguments without being answered that makes the movie drives further from perfection.

Simplicity and entertainment is what defines this series of Takahiro (writer) and Youhei Takemura (illustrator). With these characterizations it can be beneficial but also the opposite for the reader, being simple makes it easy to read by not having any complexity in the story, thus focusing more on the developments and relationships of the protagonists. Depending on how the authors want to progress the characters, it can fall into the category of remarkable to generic. In my point of view it is better than generic but it’s not so high as to consider it remarkable, some main characters do not have enough attractive personality because
...
of using the classic archetypes that are in the manga/anime, producing a reading with low and high. The low ones are some characters, the structure of the world, and the fanservice. While the high ones are some characters, the illustrator's drawing style, and the fanservice.
The characters are easy to identify, as by their designs and also by their personalities. Starting with their personalities, some of the protagonists fall into the inescapable chasm that I call: the classic dere archetypes. As the cheerful and affectionate deredere, and the sadodere who likes to play with the emotions of others. Reading series that use a very similar formula from other successful series is no longer enjoyable after having to read several other series that use a very similar formula, just like eating the same food for weeks. When we get tired of it, we choose something different that we have not tried frequently or maintain the same base but mixing with other ingredients. Same thing they should do with the archetypes, select an archetype not widely used or create a hybrid between 2 deres to bring some freshness to the characters and perhaps creating a little more enjoyable reading. For example, the very himedere-tsunhun with an aggressive attitude and the ambition to be revered but causing herself uncomfortable for her toxic side of wanting to appear strong, and the utsudere-deredere who suffers from a despair of unleashing her other face of the coin caused by an incident that she cannot forgive while keeping optimistic in front of her comrade
But, as a buffer in case of a fall in interest by the reader, the authors make the decision to add an intense amount of fan services distributed mostly in specific situations such as when the protagonist is rewarded, while the rest of the fan services goes to some parts of some female character’s activities, although it is not as visually extravagant as when protagonist is rewarded, it is only there as leftovers from the food. But it is not as bothersome as "Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi", the duo of mangakas at least knows how to use it better. In Kenichi, the fanservice is dispersed in a disorganized manner that can cause a great distraction for our perverted mind, changing our approach to "What will happen to that character?" into "Please do not, my little friend from below, do not get up yet I still want to continue reading."
Moving on to the world structure of the serie. The protagonists live in a society in which males are much inferior than women, while living in a dimension called Mato, which is about the size of Tokyo and is separated by 8 regions, each having in the custody of an anti-demon body unit, where our protagonists belong to the seventh. Thus, structuring the basics of a fantasy world. But. This is where the author’s motivation ends. Mato's world is just a rocky area, with rocky mountains, with stupidly simple monsters in design. It feels like a copy and paste of the Kegare dimension of the serie written and drawn by Yoshiaki Sukeno called “Sousei no Onmyouji”, the 2 being a rocky world, with rocky mountains, and with a lot of generic monster designs that even make me doubt about the creativity of these mangakas. It would have been better if the story took the issue of feminism in that Japanese society and the rest of the countries with more relevance. Thus nurturing our curiosity about the society that the protagonist lives showing how the people who have embedded the ideology of the superiority of women towards men work. How does the hierarchy work? Have men not made protests against feminism? Why do those peaches only work with women? I bet $ 0 that we will never know the reason of the feminism there.
Youhei Takemura's drawing style resembles the Yoshiyuki Nishi;s illustrations, mangaka from "Muhyo to Rouji no Mahouritsu Soudan Jimusho", but more moe. Something similar to the "Eromanga-sensei" series. The designs of the characters are where they are similar, but especially the head/face, having a round head like a soccer ball, eyes that occupy ¼ of the face, a nose as thin as a hair, and a small mouth that it can even take up to half of the face when they open their mouths. In addition to having a facial relationship in characters with another mangaka, Youhei Takemura knows how to create characters that are easy to recognize by just using a feature of their designs, creating a character with a simple appearance and having 1 or 2 parts of the aspect that attracts attention making the character stand out more by not having a saturation with full-body accessories with dubious utility and depend on the colors to recognize the character, such as Sigurd from Fate Grand Order. Example would be Himari Azuma, who can be recognized for her butterfly-like ponytails, or Kyouka Uzen for her accessories in her ears that makes her look as if she had some horns, although they are wings of a bird. Apart from that, the neon colors used in the illustrations are very striking and bewitching to the mere mortals that we are, especially the covers of the volumes. Interestingly, the way Youhei Takemura uses neon colors is similar to the covers of the Ultimate Edition volumes of Hokuto no Ken.
Although it is a very ecchi fighting manga, at least some of the fights has strategies in them that could give the impression of "Well, at least the characters use their heads and not just only use their fists”, making the characters to looks airheads and straight forward mentality into more like people who can think during specific situations such as a fight in this case. Looking for a example will be in chapter 36, during the fight between the Azuma sisters and a Shuuki, where Yachiho Azuma uses her powers to go back in time to prevent the worst situations during the fight and locate the main enemy and then return in the past to make a surprise attack. Or as in chapter 34, where Shushu Sugura faces a Shuuki with great resistance, so she shrinks and enters the monster's interior to later enlarge and tear the enemy to pieces. These are not complex or surprising strategies, but at least the manga writer dedicated some of his/her time thinking about how to take advantage of the characters' abilities during confrontations, which is better than a fight between characters where the stronger will be always the winner.

“In the backwater town of Bellforest lives a 14-year-old boy named Renton Thurston. He desires to leave his home behind and join the mercenary group known as Gekkostate, hoping to find some adventure to brighten up his mundane life. However, stuck between his grandfather's insistence to become a mechanic like him and the pressure of his deceased father's legacy, the only excitement Renton finds is in his pastime of riding the Trapar wave particles that are dispersed throughout the air, an activity akin to surfing. Everything changes when an unknown object crashes through Renton's garage, discovered to be a Light Finding Operation—a robot capable of
...
riding the Trapar waves—specifically known as the Nirvash typeZERO. Its pilot is a young girl named Eureka, a member of the Gekkostate, who requests a tune-up for the Nirvash. Their meeting sparks the beginning of Renton's involvement with the Gekkostate as he takes off alongside Eureka as the co-pilot of the Nirvash.”
By: My Anime List
It’s started as a any average shōnen fighting series. A young main character, in this case is 14 years old, want to do something great or fun on his life. For example: joining to a group of mercenary called “Gekkostate” because he wanted to meet the leader of that group, who name is Holland. Someone popular in where the protagonist named Renton lives. The story starts entertaining and fun, but later on, after episode 12, when the event of the Coralia ended, is where the anime change into a little darker tone. Also there will be filler episodes added in the future episodes. About fillers episodes, the next episode: episode 13 is just a summary of the previous events. As I mentioned before: “the anime change into a darker tone”, I meant there will be more focus on after effects of attacks, personal conflicts, and more militar’s presence. For the after effects, a example is in episode 24, where Renton joined a job of deliver with Charles and Ray to a Vodarac believer to a holy land, a girl who is dying because of the Hospital’s lack of resources. But Renton preferred to save the girl instead of transporting her to a holy land and went to the nearest hospital to find a treatment. When they arrived to the hospital, the others patients and people didn’t treat nicely to the girl because of ignorance, they thought the girl was part of a group of terrorist or has connection to it. Some people who received the girl with violence was survivors from terrorism attacks. A example for personal conflicts is in episode 21, when Renton left the group because he couldn’t save Eureka and felt useless. A journey of youthful discovery, right? And for military presence, there is a lot episodes of it, so let’s say: a lot of episodes.
Now the characters. The main character is Renton, another of those young protagonist from shōnen fighting series, but a difference from those others main characters who are secure of themselves with a mentality of “i want to become stronger”, he is a teenager that act like a teenager. “act like a teenager”. It doesn’t has a specific answer to that sentence because everyone has a different meaning of youth, then my answer is just based on my experience of the signification of being in the youth. Renton is a impulsive, law breaker, insecure of himself, not good to cheer up person, and scream a lot. He is impulsive because he decided to protect her for she indirect help to do a trick with his flying board. A law breaker because he joined to group of mercenary. Insecure because he needed loves tips from a magazine to help with his relationship with Eureka. Not good to cheer up because in episode 16, when Eureka got depressed because she realized that Renton is more skillful than her, Renton noticed it and tried to cheer her up but instead of cheering her up, he preferred to presume of his new skills, and to put the cherry on the cake, Renton said he got those skills maybe because he maybe think Nirvash, the mecha, said he is better than her. Wow! He is worst than me in cheering up people, I never thought that would happen, but well, it’s part of life. Also, he scream a lot, like he doesn’t know the word “stay quiet” in his head. Because of that doesn’t mean he is a better character than others protagonist, he is really annoying. Something weird about Renton is, since when he was good at driving a mecha? I haven’t seen him used the mecha that much, how he got those skills? I mean, a driver doesn’t become better because of the car, but through practice. Haven’t we seen him practicing? No, ( to be honest, I don’t remember).
Another character, Eureka. She remind me of “Zelda: Ocarina of Time”, more specific, when Navi wakes Link up to save Hyrule, like if Navi was a mom calling her son to go buy something in the market for the first time. Someone to impulse Link get out from the comfort zone. Then Eureka is the Gekkostate’s doorbell. She can’t just let him join, she need the permission from a adult from Gekkostate. What I was talking about again? Oh yeah, her. my interest on Eureka as a character is the same as Renton, a little annoying in some specific episodes. Initially, she had a cold personality and a little bit expressiveness in her face, such as laugh or sad during episode 1 to 14. Until the drama started in episode 15, when Eureka saw the potencial that Renton have with the mecha. Maybe is jealousy. Episode 16, she turn into a more depress, and isolated Eureka who is trying to ignore Renton. Yes, it’s jealousy. Episode 18, she started to be more impatient. In the same episode, the 3 kids, annoying as always, asked several times to Eureka to go with them to the cave and she answered several no’s with the last one a scream causing one of the kids to cry. And in episode 19, is where I think the drama end, with Eureka petrified? Teenager’s drama is something that I can’t handle for: 1) it’s not excited to watch. 2) unpleasant to see how their relationship goes to bad to exaggerated. And 3) it’s predictable because we all know at the end they will end up as they was use to be. Before the drama, Eureka was a character, not likable, but interesting because of her colorful design, a mint color hair and eyes of color purple with a futuristic outfit, her death look, and her introduction. She was the only character that was out standing between the rest of the character I have seen in the first episode, not only on design also on personality. Let’s say she has her own logic. In episode 1, after she charged Renton’s room, the least she could do (using her reasoning) is use a flamethrower to burn his room and pray. After the drama, when she got petrified in episode 19, she had changed into a little more charismatic Eureka, but how she turn into that felt unnatural. Like if she needed to get petrified and dream about her looking for a book in blank and realized that book is her to change.
A resume about Holland is he is a little worst than Renton. And now the details: Holland is the leader of the mercenary group: Gekkostate, as can you know. What make a leader? A leader is the person in the charge of the team, the one who influences the people to follow and inspires confidence to the others to do the impossible. And what is Holland? The opposite. Yeah, he is in charge of Gekkostate, but that’s the only thing he can do. Beside of it, he is violent, childish and not understandable. In episode 9, when they landed on “Ciudades del Cielo”, Renton and a other decided to surf, Holland noticed it and went where they were, he asked to Renton and the other what they were doing. Renton responded that there were good waves there and wondering why there is not people in the area, then he is punched by Holland, not 1, but 2 times. “Ciudades del Cielo” is a city that was victim of a military attack. Why? To stifle their beliefs and under the presumption that the residents were terrorists for allegedly protecting the Coralians. Renton wasn’t aware of the previous event that happened there. Holland could have explained the situation of why he didn’t want them to surf, instead of using violence. Luckily, in the end, he is not childish and violent any more. In episode 50. In the last episode. It was too late for a character progression, but ok. Something is something.
In my opinion, Talho is a good character comparing between all the characters I mentioned, but she still pretty average. She is a character that I really didn’t took attention, until episode 30, when she chose to change for her sake or change into what she used to be because her current life style wasn’t working with Holland. Before, she was funny and sometimes she exceeds with the jokes. In episode 5, Talho told everyone about Renton’s interest with Eureka. Probably it’s not exceeding, but it’s create a awkward ambient. After episode 30, she turns into a more mature and nicer person. After she realized her attitude wasn’t benefiting the crew. I don’t know why she had that attitude, beside of Holland’s attention, but i like more the new Talho than the previous one that was only looking for a man’s attention because she helps. In episode 33, Talho supported Renton’s relationship with Eureka by letting them to ride a board that Talho and Holland used to ride. In episode 40, Talho teaches Eureka about how true love leads to the conception of a child, due to Eureka becoming intrigued by Talho being pregnant. Or when she was aware of the health risks that Holland was taking to fly the Devilfish, she chose to stand by him and support him because of his attempt trying to held defend the planet.
And about the rest of the crew and others characters, if their name is not: Renton, Eureka, Talho, Holland, and Anemone, then they aren’t relevant for the story and my perspective. Didn’t I mentioned Anemone? That’s because I have a similar opinion as Eureka, just I am a little more interest on Anemone than Eureka. Just a pinch. If it wasn’t for the unnecessary drama Eureka had with Renton, but they are teenagers, right? Those type of thing happens in teenagers. Even if initially the anime give us the sense about Dominic being Renton’s rival, he didn’t do nothing remarkable, beside of trying to save Anemone in episode 49. For Charles and Ray, I like their relationship with Renton but that’s it, nothing interesting individually.
Let’s talk about the sounds. It’s feel like it took me so long to arrive this part, like I was being emotional about the characters. For sounds, the producers used hip hops music as soundtrack for the anime, referring to the rebelliousness of the protagonists for being mercenaries to protect Renton’s father will and Eureka. Sometimes, the soundtrack doesn’t improve the scenes. During the drama between Renton and Eureka, the soundtrack make the situations more dramatic to a point it feels fake. In openings, I prefer the 2nd one in animation and music because that was the only one I like the most. And in animation, what can I expect? It’s Bones the one who produced Eureka Seven. That’s the only thing that they didn’t fail me, they did animated good mecha fighting while surfing in the air scenes. For a anime of 50 episodes with a lot of fillers, it’s well animated in general.

“Based on a light novel series by Keiichi Sigsawa, the philosophical Kino no Tabi employs the time-honored motif of the road trip as a vehicle for self-discovery and universal truth. Deeply meditative and cooler than zero, the series follows the existential adventures of the apt markswoman Kino along with talking motorcycle Hermes as they travel the world and learn much about themselves in the process. Imaginative, thought-provoking, and sometimes disturbing, Kino's journey is documented in an episodic style with an emphasis on atmosphere rather than action or plot, though still prevalent.”
By: My Anime List.
Kino is the main character, as can you know, she is a
...
quite, calm, and a realistic person, who only act against a individual when she need to. Usually she has a neutral expression and having the habit of being neutral because she doesn’t want obstacles to interfere with her journey as a traveler. About the others characters. There is a lot of character that Kino had met, but most of them are unilateral, some are nice, and a pinch of them are charismatic. One that stand out from the rest is Sakura, a person who Kino got empathize with for having similarities with her. She grew with parents who worked in a hotel. She was introduced in a similar way when we saw Kino’s past, standing in a barrel and bothered by other kids. Both of their original name was related with a flower. And both of them guide a traveler to their parent’s hotel and the city. A lot of characters, including the protagonist. Kino, is someone cold with a neutral expression that gives the thought of “they are not human”. Feels like is made in purpose to give a plus to the sinister, loneliness, and inhuman atmosphere to show how the world is from a point of view of a 15 years old kid for the most of the episodes.
The anime is a short stories serie where each episode count a different event that teach the people a lesson. In episode 1, kino and Hermes visited a city where machines live in the main areas, later she noticed that far away, there are people living individually far each other. Both unable to understand the situation, they went into one of the houses, where both were not well received, until 1 person received Kino and Hermes to his house after he realized both of them can’t read mind. The 2 of them wanted to know the situation of the land, the man explained that the government created a liquid that makes everyone able to read mind for the sake for the people were able empathize more easily with others people and have a more equal mind. Unfortunately, the people and weirdly the own government were ignorant of the consequences of having such power, having everyone being able to know every casual thoughts or hidden secrets of each individuals led to a complete isolation. I wonder what happened to the kids.
In my opinion, the lesson of episode 1 is knowing too much from someone will alternate the relationship. It’s like when a person discover that his/her partner that knew for so many years, is interested more on other person than the actual partner. To make more relative, like when a close friend have a contrasting opinion about a taste or idea. It gives the sense of “you betrayed me”. Every time when Kino visit a country, it leaves more questions than answers. In the episode I mentioned before, it left me a question: What would happens if a entire country know how to read minds? And the answer was: isolation. And some unanswered questions: What was the intention for creating the liquid? How did the people got the liquid? Did they paid it? How did they made the liquid? What was the benefit of creating the liquid? Did they distribute it to others country? Shouldn’t they have made experiments centered on the psychological effects on the people after consuming the liquid before it’s massed distributed? If the government had done experiments before the distribution, what was the result? Answer: I don’t know.
The events that is occur throughout the anime doesn’t have a linear chronology. Is like when the grandparents tells their younger years to their grandchildren, about how the grandpa got introduced the army and involved to a war, how was grandma at school, or how they met for the first time. Not always the grandparents tells their stories in a chronology way, they just tells random stories to entertain their grandchildren. That’s how I feel like the episodes are. Also, the events is based on the perspective of Kino. How do I know that? Because the story is centered on Kino, the main character. That’s why in episode 4, in a flashback, it feels like the people act so weird after they noticed that a male traveler named: Kino infected the protagonist with ideas of outside the city. Because it's a flashback, a background context told in the eyes of a kid of 11 years old. Probably it’s just a exaggeration or that never happened in that way.
Let’s talk about the cities and the society. Each cities has their own cultures and uniques identity to differentiate from others. Like in episode 3, a Venice-style country where Kino arrives called: the “Sad Land”, where she finds that a poet of a family of a wife and a daughter was commissioned by the king to write a sad poem, frustrated for many years, he couldn’t do it until he saw his wife committing suicide. In the moment the King heard the poem, he got depressed and died from a disease. The poet kept recite the sad poem until his death and same thing happened to her daughter. Those words influenced became the people more pessimistic. Later on, it become a tradition. Arranging a young girl to recite the sad poem every day. As Kino leaves, the border officer tells her that the poem was written down and a nearby country acquired it, calling it the Book of Prophecy.
In the same episode, Kino and Hermes arrive in a city named: “Land of Prophecy”. Where everyone believes the world will end the next day according to their “Book of Prophecy” as interpreted by the southern priest, but the end never occurred, and people confused wanted a reason, the northern priest declares that his interpretation predicts that the event will occur in 30 years. Also in the same episode, another event, Kuni was camping overnight under the stars, until she was interrupted by an army from the Land of Prophecies invading another country. When she asks why, a soldier responds that a new interpretation of the “Book of Prophecy” indicated that the next country, “Sad Land”, is responsible for their world coming to an end.
And episode 1, Kino and Hermes find themselves in a city that seems like it’s inhabited by servile machines and outside the city, she notices people living alone in the countryside. Kino met a man in a cottage who tells her that the entire population drank a special liquid which enabled them to understand each other's thoughts with the aim of creating harmony across the country. However being able to read each other's minds only brought chaos to society through being aware of the unfiltered thoughts of every other person, even between the man and his wife. The only solution for the population was to live a short distance from each other. The man asks Kino to stay, but she declines and continues on her way, passing by the cottage of his wife living nearby.
Next: the society. In every country, the people is different. The people from the country full of robots in episode 1, they are isolated. In episode 3, a country where the people are emotionally manipulated by a sad poem, or a country where the people’s schedule are manipulated by their church based from a sad poem. In episode 4, kino’s flashback, the people was controlled by the government as I can know, where the kids to be able to turn into a adult, they need to do a operation at age of 12 where everyone will be happy no matter of their job or situation. And episode 13, Kino decided to visit a land where travelers are shunned to experience the people’s attitude, but by some reason when she said that she will only stay there for 3 days, the people attitude turns a 180 degree, they become very friendly and welcoming.
And something I noticed after finishing the anime is that a lot of things happened in the anime of 13 episodes and that’s because Kino travel a lot. Usually staying in a place for 3 days. Why? Why only 3 days? Yeah. I know, she can’t stay there so long because she is a traveler, but why is she traveling? Couldn’t she just find another place to live after what happened in her home country? Or maybe that’s what is she doing. She go to a lot of places and stay there for 3 days to analyze the place and qualify it if she could live there for a long period, but if she doesn’t think a place qualify it, she leaves after 3 days she arrived there. I think she found a potential place to stay in episode 13, where Kino finally empathized with a girl, a girl named: Sakura. She had fun with the young girl Sakura during the 3 days, but Kino felt like the 3 days felt like it was short, also she asked the Sakura’s parents if she could stay for a bit longer, but the parents didn’t permit it. She felt like already found a home to stay.

“On the outskirts of the country of Helvetia rests the tranquil town of Seize. Upon its cobbled streets, citizens go about their daily lives, undisturbed by the increasingly tense military relations between Helvetia and the neighboring Roman Empire. It is under these circumstances that the 1121st platoon of the Helvetian army, stationed at the Clocktower Fortress in Seize, receives a new recruit in the young and spirited Kanata Sorami. Having joined the military to fulfill her dream of learning to play the bugle, she excitedly accepts the tutelage of the Sergeant Major, Rio Kazumiya, who happens to be a skilled trumpeter. Working alongside them are
...
the aloof mechanic, Noël Kannagi, the feisty gunner, Kureha Suminoya, and the compassionate Captain Felicia Heideman; together, they experience the beauty of life in Seize and the lasting joy of a community that has persevered in spite of the crumbling world around them.”
By: My Anime List
The characters are the most remarkable in the anime, although they are childish, each of them have a mature attitude of them when time suits, plus a character development or progression. Kanata Sorami is a young girl with the attitude of a kid, but with a determination to keep improving her ability with the trumpet. Noelle Kannagi, a sleepy, serious, and lazy in doing daily activities, although she is a hard-working perdón and becomes more social and expressive with others. Kureha Suminoya, a girl who wants the attention of her superiors and proud, but at the same time is brave and more friendly with the progress of the chapters. Rio Kazumiya, scream a lot, impatient, but she cares about her comrades and she act as a leader to be a example for the youngest. And Filicia Heideman, happy, kind, and is like the mother figure to others. Not only the protagonists had an evolution, the villagers also had an evolution thanks to the connections they had with the protagonist.
Although it sounds like a happy story because of the style of the characters' designs, the positivism of the protagonists in most of the chapters, and the music. Sometimes the anime can take an opposite route than expected, telling stories of war and teaching the side effects of war. Showing how their sufferings impelled them to continue advancing as a proof that they are alive for good or bad:
Filicia Heideman. she joined the armed Helvetian at a very young age, probably the same age as Kanata Sorami, aged of 15. Originally she was in 1147th platoon, participating in the Battle of Vinght and being the only survivor of her platoon. She saw how her other comrades died from the flames caused by the enemy. Shock and lost, she ended up trapped in an underground area, where she talked to a strange wounded soldier. When she talk to the soldier, he did not move his mouth, as if it were a hallucination or that he was a ghost from her lost. When she shouted that she wanted to live and be saved, she could see a small light that was expanding on the roof, she could see the Princess Illeya in that carpet of light, who saved her and who led reinforcement.
Or, Noel Kannagi, who is very knowledgeable about sciences and different cultures. Her extensive knowledge of science is likely due to the factor that was recruited by Colonel Hopkins to resurrect the "Invisible Reaper". He resurrected the Invisible Reaper, a biological weapon that was used to destroy three cities of the Roman Empire and, therefore, the Romans baptized it as "The Witch of Helvetia". Also, she knows about Filicias past. She was there or had a similar experience.
Something interesting that I had not noticed until now was that the story Rio Kazumiya was telling in the first episode was very similar to the event that happened in the last episode. "A winged demon come to live in the bottom of this valley. The demon breath fire, shook the ground, and cause people to suffer. Then, one day, I have kidnapped the maidens who lives in the fort, and locked them in an underground labyrinth. However the girls refused to give up, and called each other with the golden horns given by the Lord of heaven. Upon escaping the labyrinth, they gained the help of an enormous spider, and defeated the demon, taking its head. Once they'd done so, the head began spewing flame everywhere. If left alone, it would have burned the town above to ash. So, to keep the flames at bay, the maidens took turns embracing the demon's head. Everyday, the villagers would throw water on the maiden who held the flaming head. The flames lasted for a year, and then disappeared at last. And so the town created a water-throw festival, to commemorate the maidens who saved it”.
It’s referring to Colonel Hopkins (Demon of Vingt) who spread fear and doubt to the people causing instability to the people, suffering consequences such as the arrest of Naomi, and the protagonists having doubt of their ideals. Afterwards, the Colonel surrounded the town with his soldiers, leaving the protagonists cornered, although they did not surrender and kept their composure thanks to the words of Aisha. They mounted the giant spider, escaping from the village to head towards the center of the conflict, while immobilizing the movements of the Colonel and his soldiers. Upon arrival, Kanata Sorami used the trumpet to stop the war unsuccessfully, tried a second one that did work. Thus ending the war without any death and people consumed by the flame.
Or like in the first episode, when Kanata Sorami used the horns for the first time, some said that if it was the demon or that if it was awakened, and at in the last episode, she used efficiently the horn to stop a war.

Anna, a lonely and curious girl who has no friend, until she meets Marnie, a mysterious blonde girl, in an old abandoned mansion. The story has to be simple because it’s a movie, if it has a complex story, the movie will be confusing and too much information that would affect the pace of the movie. For me it’s ok to have a simple story. Sometimes simplicity is good for people like me, a lazy, hungry of new animes, and average person. In my opinion.
The characters act in a human and natural way, the children who bothered Toichi acted like children, childish and ignorants, except
...
for Anna and the girl from the festival, who acted maturely way for that young ages, more for the girl from the festival. She tolerated all that words that Anna said to her during the festival while she maintaining a firm and calm attitude. Something to applause for how young she is. While adults have their varieties: their aunt/mother who cares about the well-being of Anna, the exaggerated mother of the festival girl, the quiet Toichi, and their fun and charismatic aunt and uncle.
Something fascinating about the movie is how the little details can gives us information about Anna. For example, Anna wants space and privacy, how do I know? Unlike how Anna met the girl from the festival and Marnie, the festival girl deprived Anna of her privacy and space, the girl approached to Anna without her consent and aggressively remove her objects from her hand, such as the paper that had written her desire. While with Marnie, she gave Anna space. When they met for the first time, the scene where Anna tried to go by boat to the mansion by herself. Marnie did not get too close to Anna and asked if she was okay. No. She walked away from Anna and asked if she was okay. That gave Anna a hint that Marnie wanted to give her space for being a stranger in Anna’s eyes and when she approaches Anna, she does so in a gentle way. Another example are her eyes. At the beginning it was just another detail of the character, until the introduction of Marnie, we could make an educative guess that they had some kind of connection between them because for being the only ones with blue eyes during the entire movie, then it’s introduced us Hisako, which we learned that Marnie has or should be the same age as her and about Marnie's past, mentioning when she passed away and how old Anna was at that time, and finally with her aunt as the conclusion, mentioning that Marnie was her grandmother.

SSSS. Gridman is a series that i did not expect anything for being a living reference to the tokusatsu genre, like Ultraman, it sequels, and the original live action Gridman serie. It left me with a bittersweet taste in my taste bud, but a little more sweeter than bitter.
The story centers on Yuta Hibiki, a first-year student with amnesia who lives in the fictional Japanese city of Tsutsujidai. One day, he meets the Hyper Agent Gridman on an old computer, who gave the boy a mission he must fulfill, just as he has to look for the meaning of those words and his memory loss.
...
While that happen, the day reset by some reason and when someone die, they will not come back. In my opinion, it sound interesting, but it didn’t squeeze the reset as much as I wanted. It answered how the day is reseted and what would happen if those shadowing kaiyus were killed, but it could be used in a different way to give more character development to the protagonist. How? Killing more characters. Important characters. What I meant with the reset the day is that the fights of Gridman and the buildings destroyed during the fights disappear from the people’s memories and the buildings turn back as it was before the fights.
It reference attacks like: jump and do a karate chop in, mid of the air, to the kaiyu's neck or the shoulder, if it has one, or grab the kaiyu's neck then lift it while it rotate and throw it to somewhere. Also, huge explosions are common, after eliminating the kaiyu. The need of a secundary hero, as a copy of the main hero. Then the color design of the hero, being red, the most prominent of Gridman, then gray and blue. For Anti is the color purple as the prominent color of it design, then the gold and gray. But a really great reference to this genre of super hero in specific is the movements and reactions of some kaiyu is their limited movement and how it react and counterattack. It give the sense if the kaiyu was really a person wearing a costume of a monster. In the first episode, the kaiyu always has a neutral face and the mouth open, or when the kaiyu rotate the head to hit Gridman, it didn't has any expression but the same face.
Having as antagonist: a charismatic and human Akane Shinjo, although I can not say the same with Alexis Kerib, being a unilateral character as Gridman. About Akane Shinjo. Initially, she was a average antagonist, until she showed her human side, a depresses Akane Shinjo because everything she had done was in vain. Something that a person can empathize with it. While the protagonists: a forgettable Yuta Hibiki and Gridman, the friendly Rikka Takarada, and the most human of the group, Sho Itsumi. Why is he the most human? During the 12 chapters, he has done anything remarkable and he is aware of it, leaving him into a semi-depression because of his impotence. Something that we could not see much. Anti, an intermediate character who was mistreated by Akane Shinjo and Alexis Kerib, while Rikka Takarada and Samurai Calibur were the ones who took care of him. His move from antagonist to protagonist was not forced but great either, Anti was an antagonist because he wanted to be on the lookout for Akane Shinjo, he uses the argument of wanting to kill Gridman as an excuse to have a goal in his life, although close to the end he questions it, and then become a ally of Gridman.
The protagonist and the antagonist probably have a good or average designs, but they really don’t have a character development or just a little of character progression for some, like Sho Itsumi or Akane Shinjo. Yeah, she got one, near the end of the anime. We don’t know nothing about the protagonist, beside of their personalities, and a little bit of Yuta Hibiki’s past before his memory loss. The glasses guy said he was a nice guy. That’s it. How about the antagonist? Ha! None. We don’t even known how they got there. Or how Gridman and his comrades got there. Note, I haven’t watch the original source, so I don’t know anything about gridman serie beside this one. I think the only antagonist that I don’t really care of character development and progression are the kaiyus, except Anti, he is decent. They are just huge monsters with the only objective of destroying gridman.

The movie has parallels with the original story of the series. For example: Solada escapes from her home in search of a being who could save his home from demons. Similar to Elizabeth escaping from her home in search of the 7 Deadly Sins to save her from the overthrow of her kingdom. Giving an impression of not being very original in the premise. With a very simplistic, vague designs of villains and with personalities of any typical villain. Also, stretching unnecessary situations, noting that the producers of the film did not know what to do, such as, when Zoria confuses Meliodas with his son
...
Solada no matter that Meliodas mentions that he is not his son and both have differents appearances, except for the face. In sounds, it used the same OST in the previous seasons. And what most stand out the movie is the animation, being very detailed and fluid during the scenes of fights and, at the same, time with mostly stable drawings without noticeable deformations in the scenes more focused on dialogues.

It is a recommendable manga for people who want a more mature serie, one in which goals can not always be met, showing the cruelty of humans and without any concern to show inappropriate themes. Vinland Saga, although it shows endless scenes of war and death, it does not intend to explain a history of conquests and struggles nor tell us how a protagonist trains to be the best or the king of the Vikings. History can be treacherous to you, you can love it in the beginning and hate it in the end because of the change that had in chapter 54. Followed by
...
a simple art, similar to the art of mangas focused on the Shonen demography, but with a great evolution, having a detailed and realistic drawings in the current manga, making the characters have so much personality. While the art is very good, the character development is also good, giving them time to develop their characters well and giving more credibility to the readers to believe their changes. You can love or hate this series, but you have to accept that it is a series with great changes, having a personality of its own.
