Only the first short story of the collection, Bianca, is translated, so this is a review for that story and not the other ones. I'll have to read the rest once I'm more proficient at Japanese!

Bianca is only 16 pages, but it's short story format is part of its theme, as it's about the immense impact people we spend little time with can have on us. I had never heard of the children's book Miyazaki talks about in this, but now I really want to! His meeting with the author was extremely interesting as well, seeing a japanese and british person, both of whom were children during the second world war and felt animosity towards the military in general was very interesting. It's also fully in colour, and it's gorgeous. I assume it's watercolour, at least it's not digital and it looks gorgeous. A lot of digital comics colouring don't look good at all because of how flat it feels, with one strong colour per part. There's no dynamism or movement ...

Mixed Feelings
Osamu Dezaki is one of my absolute favourite directos. Responsible for the adaptations of Riyoko Ikeda manga Rose of Versaille and Oniisama e, as well as Aim for the Ace, which heavily influenced Hideaki Anno. And of course, Dezaki directed the adaptation of Ashita no Joe. Oniisama e, Rose of Versaille, and Joe, are all in my top 10, so basically, he's a big fuckin' deal, and I'm a huge fan.
