Both are coming-of-age stories that are honest and upfront about the good, the bad, and the gross parts of becoming a teenager. Makes you feel that good, nostalgic cringe of "I was like that in middle school too." Yabai Yatsu focuses more on boys' romantic and sexual awakenings to girls, whereas O Maidens is of course focused on girlhood. Both include lots of lighthearted comedy to break up heartwarming scenes. If you want a slightly more grounded take on the middle school coming of age story that takes adolescence seriously and tackles the dark parts of growing up along with the fun parts, O Maidens is that. If you want a mostly lighthearted and sweet look at the difficulties of pubescence as an awkward, mentally ill kid, Yabai Yatsu is that. The two shows fit together well.
